Chapter 11

“So you and Seguin huh,” Vanessa nudged me with a grin as we sat down, we were in the first row at the American Airline Center, to the right of the Stars penalty box. The seats that I promised Vanessa we’d seat in one day.
“Uh no,” I denied with a shake of my head, knowing that if I admitted anything they would only try to ‘help’, so I told them the number one reason that it could not happen. “He’s my client,” I told them, as if that was the only problem, and hoped they would just drop it.
“He’s your client,” Tori looked at me with a half-smile and I knew she was teasing me but I was quick to defend myself anyway.
“Yes,” I confirmed, “and not to mention he’s a party boy so I highly doubt he wants a relationship.”
“But you do want a relationship,” Vanessa was quick to point out, but the devilish smile are her face told me she was only joking.
“Of course I do,” I shrugged, there was no denying that, every girl wanted someone to hold them and make them feel better, and I was no exception, “but with someone who I know is not going to break my heart, and someone who would actually like me back.”
“So what, you think he doesn’t like you?” Tori turned to me, her dark eyes questioning.
“I know he doesn’t like me,” I shook my head with a laugh, even though I knew that was a lie. I am pretty sure everyone in that locker room knew of Tyler’s little crush on me, but that’s all it was, a crush. Someone he could get with and then dump when he got bored.
“Brittany,” Tori leaned in closer to me. “The boy is head over heels in love with you.”
“No he’s not,” I laughed, as the lights dimmed, and the heat raced to my cheeks. Love was kind of a strong word after all.
“Seriously Brittany, not even you can be that blind.” Tori rolled her eyes, knowing how oblivious I was when it came to guys. “Here Brittany, I got you this jersey…”
“No Brittany, don’t worry about it, I’ll pay.” Vanessa added in, referring to lunch early today.
“Hey Brittany, let me just stare into your soul as I debate if I should kiss you or not.” Tori mocked, as the sound blared though the speakers.
“That never happened,” I whispered/shouted into her ear as the intro video started to play.
“I don’t know, it sure looked like he was pretty tempted when you skated over and cut him off.” Tori refuted with a laugh, and I wasn’t sure if it was because of the look on my face, or the situation that I found myself in.
I just shook my head, because if that is what my friends saw, there was no way to know what the team saw.
Vanessa nudged me with a smile, “we’re only messing with you Brit, even you got to admit, it is kind of funny.”
I shrugged with as I whispered, “I guess it is,” just as the guys were introduced to the ice.
Even though I didn’t find it quite as funny as they did, but I understood were they were coming from. If there was one hockey player I couldn’t stand it was defiantly Tyler Seguin, I made that pretty clear during the years we knew each other. Hey, I even convinced Vanessa and Tori that he was gay, I guess I couldn’t really say that was true anymore, but he was just so arrogant and I definitely misjudged, I thought to myself, but quickly shock the though from my head. Who was I kidding, he was Tyler Seguin after all and as long as I kept reminding myself that, then I would be okay.
* * *
The next morning I got up, went for a run, and then made breakfast for the girls, as well as a couple of the guys, three guesses who, and then went to practice. The guys were all in a good mood this afternoon and I guess that was partly due to the win last night. The Stars were off to a good start, which I was quickly learning meant, ‘party at Seguin’s’.
Subsequently that is how I ended up at Tyler’s house, with Vanessa and Tori.
It didn’t take long for Vanessa to discover Tyler’s X – box Kinect, and once he told her that he has Just Dance (for when his sister’s come down, of course), that was it, there was no way we could not play it now.
After Tyler set it up, Vanessa took over, selecting the first song. A song that I am pretty sure we danced to every time we played this game. Naturally Tori and I joined her, but there was still room for one more person, and after the talk we had last night I guess it really shouldn’t have surprised me when Tyler stepped up next to me.
When the song ended the four of us were all a little out of breath, by that wasn’t going to stop Vanessa. She selected another song, and this time Jordie and Demers joined in, replacing Tyler and I. After a couple more songs Vanessa decided she needed a break so she plopped down on the couch next to me with a smile.
“Thank you,” she panted as she twisted the cap to the water bottle Tyler handed to her.
“No problem,” he told her before he smiled down at me and extended his hand. “So may I have a dance?”
“You are so cheesy,” I rolled my eyes, but took his hand, it was defiantly softer than I expected, and he helped me up.
“Well no body told you that you had to be my friend,” he retorted once I was off the couch and he dropped my hand.
“I know, but you didn’t give me much of a choice.” I smiled as I followed him to the TV; this was so easy, just being friends, why would I want to ruin that.
