Chapter 36

I could hear a soft groan escape Tyler’s lips as the alarm on his nightstand rang. I felt the bed shift as Tyler rolled on to his stomach and silenced the alarm.
“Back to reality, eh,” Tyler’s voice was heavy with sleep as he turned his head to look at me.
“Yea,” I yawned as I rolled onto my side to face him. “Thankfully I kind of like my reality.”
“Me too,” Tyler smiled as he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me to him. He tucked me under his chin as he wrapped his other arm around me.
“You know if we’re going back to reality then we need to get up?” I hated to be the barer of bad news but it had to be done.
“Well can we wait like five more minutes?” Tyler nuzzled my neck and I hide my laughter as I ran a hand through his dark hair.
“I don’t know Tyler?” I smiled with a laugh as Tyler’s head snapped up.
He smirked as he positions himself so that he hoovered over me. “Five more minutes is not going to kill you.”
“You don’t know that.”
With a roll of his eyes and a shake of his head he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on my lips before burrowing his face into my neck again. This time placing little butterfly kisses to my collar bone.
I sighed as I gave in letting Tyler enjoy his couple of extra minutes, before there was a knock at his door. I bit my lip as I pushed Tyler away, but he didn’t budge, only smiled down at me as the door opened.
“Hey Ty,” a cheerful female voice greeted as the door squeaked open. “Oh,” her voice dropped, “sorry, I didn’t…” she strutted and I knew my cheeks were flushed as I pulled Tyler’s sheets up to cover my face.
“It’s okay Cass,” I could see Tyler smirk at his sister as I pulled the cover down just enough to see the blonde girl in the doorway; “we were just getting up.”
“Okay,” she smirked right back at him and I knew she didn’t believe him. “Well mom wanted me to let you know that she has breakfast ready.”
“Thanks Cass,” Tyler said, clearly not as uncomfortable as I was in this situation. “We’ll be right there.”
“I’ll let her know.” A devilish smirk, much like Tyler’s covered her face as she closed the door behind her.
I exhaled as I pulled the covers back over my head. Tyler only laughed as he pulled the covers away from my face, which I knew was once again bright red. “Well that was embarrassing,” I whispered.
“At least our clothes were Tyler,” he grinned as he rolled off of me.
“Yea, but it looked like they may have been coming off any minute.”
He shrugged, “well Cassidy doesn’t care.”
“But I do;” I groaned, “now your sister probably thinks I’m some slut just banging her brother and she’s going to go tell your mom…”
“Trust me Brittany,” Tyler cut me off, “Cassidy doesn’t think that, and there’s nothing to tell my mom that she doesn’t already know.” He reassured me with a quick peck on the cheek before he pushed himself off the bed. “Now go get dressed, my mom has breakfast ready.”

I followed Tyler’s instructions and got dressed assuring Tyler that I’d meet him in the kitchen when I was done. Now I found myself with my stomach in knots as my hand hoovered over the doorknob on the door leading from Tyler’s room to the rest of the house.
My heart pounded in my chest knowing that his mom and sister’s stood just outside this door, and I knew I couldn’t hide in here forever.
With a deep breath I opened the door. All conversations halted as I opened the door and four pairs of eyes turned in my direction. I caught Tyler’s eyes first; he stood behind the counter on the opposite side of me a relaxed smile plastered on his face. His mother stood next to him, a motherly smile covered her face, and across from her Cassidy sat on one of the bar stools. Next to Cassidy sat Candace, who slid off the stool she occupied and paraded across the room.
“Brittany,” Candace greeted as she folded me into a hug. “It’s nice to see you again.”
“Same here,” I swallowed and relaxed into the hug as I wrapped my arms round her. “So how have you been?”
“I’ve been good,” a grin much like Tyler’s covered her face as she pulled away. “But apparently not as good as you. I heard your dating my brother now.”
“Well you heard correctly.”
“Yay,” she gave a small squeal as she slid her arm through mine and lead me to the counter that she just vacated. “You know my mom almost had heart attack last night when I asked about you.”
“She did?”
“Yea, especially when he spilled that you were his girlfriend now. I don’t think she believe him.”
“She didn’t,” another female voice, who I could only assume was Cassidy’s, spoke when we were in talking distance of the counter.
“Well can you blame me,” Tyler’s mom looked up at her oldest daughter. “This is the first women Tyler hasn’t met at a bar or club or some kind of party. It does sound a bit unbelievable.” She smiled as she turned her attention back to me. “I’m Jackie by the way, Tyler’s mom.” She introduced herself before she pointed across the table. “And over there is my daughter Cassidy.”
“Hey,” she gave a nod as she flashed her index and middle finger up in a peace sign, all without looking up from her phone.
“Well,” Jackie cleared her throat. “Are you hungry? I have eggs, and here are some strawberries.” She smiled as she pushed a tray of strawberries in front of me.
“Yes, eggs would be nice,” I flashed her smile as I picked a strawberry from the pile. I guess it was only fair, I mean Tyler did get to meet my family after all. “So I’m sorry I took Tyler away from you on Christmas.”
“It was no problem sweetheart,” Jackie reassured me as she laid a plate piled high with eggs and toast in front of me. “I hoped you enjoyed your surprise.”
“That I did.” I smiled as I took the fork that Jackie handed to me. “So how long are you guys in town?”
“Until Friday,” Candace answered from her new seat next to Tyler. “We’re going to Tyler’s game tomorrow night and leaving Friday morning. Today we were going to get our nails done well Tyler was at practice, but we should wait until later and then you can come with us.”
“No,” I shook my head because as much as I liked girl time, a day at the nail salon was not my idea of a good day. “You don't have to do that.”
“Of course I do,” Candace leaned on the table. “You’re like family now.”
Far from it I thought, “But I’m not Candace.”
“But you could use a break.” Tyler spoke up between a spoonful of eggs. “You should go.”
“Does it look like I go to the nail salon?” I held up my left hand, with my short nails with the two week old nail polish. “Plus don't you want to spend time with your family well they’re here?”
“I’ve already spent 2 days with them;” Tyler said which received a roomful of ‘heys’, “you can spend a couple hours with them. Trust me, I don’t mind.”
“Okay,” I smiled, defeated, “I’ll go.”

It was just after eight when Tyler walked me to his front door, the first time we have been alone since this morning. He didn’t want me to leave, but after today I just needed some time alone because being that introvert I was, I was mentally drained.
As promised, after practice I went with Tyler’s sisters and his mom to the nail salon which just happened to be in a mall. So after about 30 minutes in the salon, there was another two hours of shopping.
It was just after 5 when we made it back to Tyler’s house. At this point I was ready to call it a day, but Jackie insisted that I stay for dinner, and unable to say no I agreed to stay.
So here Tyler and I were 3 hours later.
“Are you sure you don’t want to spend the night?” Tyler pouted as he twirled a strand of my hair around one of his long fingers.
“Yes Tyler.” I sighed as I leaned my back against his front door.
“And this has nothing to do with the fact that my family’s here?”
“No,” I assured him for what felt like the thousandth time that night. “I told you, today was just a very busy day and I just need some time to myself now.”
Tyler nodded, but I could see the disappointment in his eyes. “That’s an introvert thing right?”
“It is,” I exhaled as I took his hand in mine. “I do appreciate Candace inviting today thought, I had a lot of fun.”
“You did?” Tyler questioned as he slowly looked up at me.
“I did.” I flashed him a smile as I ran a hand thought his dark hair. “Your sister’s and I had fun exchanging stories about you.”
“All good stories,” Tyler asked with an arch of one dark eyebrow.
“It wasn’t anything to embarrassing if that what you’re worried about,” I chuckled.
“Oh god,” he groaned as he laid his head on my shoulder. “What did they tell you?”
“Well they told me about this time you were in middle school and you learned to play the clarinet and you thought that you were really good, but in reality you sucked.” I smiled as I thought about Tyler coming home from school one day, excited to play this new song that he learned, only his family didn’t feel the same way. “Then your mom told me about the first time that your dad took you skating, only you were so scared you didn’t let go of his hand.”
“Yea,” Tyler chuckled, “and the next time he took me he didn’t go out with me so I just ended up crawling on the ice.”
“Your mom didn’t tell me that one.” I laughed with him. “When my sister and I first went skating she used a chair.”
“Yea,” a smile pulled at the corner of Tyler’s lips as he lifted his head off my shoulder, “I got to that about the fourth time I went skating.”
“Better late than never right?”
“Well,” Tyler shrugged with a smirk, “some of use aren’t extremely gifted at everything we do like some people.” His brown eyes stared into my hazel one and there was no denying what he was talking about.
“Yea” I snorted, “and you have another coming if you think I’m good at everything I do.”
“Okay,” he barked out a laugh with a shake of his head, his eyes still on me. “Name one thing you’re not good at.”
“Math.”
“Math?” A smirked covered his lips as he raised one dark eyebrow at me.
“Yea, I only got a ‘B’ in statistics.”
“Oh my god,” he rolled his eyes. “Only a ‘B’.”
“Shut up,” I tried to hold my pout in place as I playful smack his bicep, but failed.
Tyler only smiled as his lip his hand and traced my bottom lip with his thumb. “You don’t know how extremely sexy it is when you pretend to be mad.”
He didn’t even give me a chance to reply before his lips were on mine. I could feel my body relax as his arms slowly wrapped around me, and it didn’t take long before my hands were knocked in his hair.
Someone clearing there throat broke us from the kiss. I swallowed the lump in my throat, pushed back onto my heels and pulled away from Tyler.
Tyler flashed her a smile as if nothing just happened, “What’s up Cass?”
“We were just wondering if you had any popcorn.”
“Yea,” Tyler sighed as I pulled my hand out of his. “There should be some in the kitchen. Just give me a minute.”
“Okay,” she nodded as she turned and headed back into the living room.
“So I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
“Sure will,” I smiled as I gave him one last peak on the lips.
