The Friend Zone

chapter twenty-four - glad youre mine

“Spill it”

“Spill what?” I played coy.

“You know exactly what I mean. You're glowing” Erica gave me a knowing look.

“Whose glowing?” Jessica came into the picture. I wasn’t particularly fond of Erica's sister, Jessica. She was Derek's secretary or assistant or whatever the hell she was. I wasn't fond of having anything to do with Derek anymore, especially since I was with Jamie now. The thought of Jamie put a smile on my face.
“Haley's glowing; she got laid last night” Erica jeered; I could have hit her.

“You don't need to advertise that shit” I muttered, looking around the office lunch room to see if anyone was listening. I had avoided her questions up until lunch time; but I couldn't escape it any longer.

“My god- with who!?” Jessica asked nosily. I knew she didn't actually care about me; she was just a mosey bitch. Who knows, maybe Derek put her up to it I thought with a grimace.

“My boyfriend” I tried to be a vague as I possibly could. Erica wasn't aware of my distaste of Jessica; I felt uncomfortable in telling her I thought her sister was a stuck up snotty bitch.

“He asked you to be his boyfriend!?” Erica exploded with the biggest grin I have ever seen. “Holy fuck finally!” She pulled me in for a hug, still grinning from ear to ear.

“Finally what?” Jessica asked, clearly missing something.

“Her and Jamie are finally dating!” Erica squealed. The smile was wiped off my face when I saw the look of disgust on Jessica's face.

“Okay! You don't need to announce it to the freaking world” I grumbled, my cheeks turning a light shade of pink.

“Sorry, I'm just so happy for you!” Erica gushed, her smile never faltering for even a second. “How was the date? The kiss? The sex?” She added the last part in a whisper. I simply rolled my eyes at her.

“Amazing, amazing, and even more amazing” I smirked, allowing myself to smile and be excited about it, forgetting Jessica was standing right beside us.

“You dumped Derek for him?” She scoffed, wiping the smile off my face just as quickly as it had appeared.

“I don't think that's any of your business” I snapped immediately. I didn't want to be talking about this anymore; not with her. “I've got lots of work to do- I'll see you later” I looked to Erica with a soft smile before turning on my heals and heading back towards my office. As soon as I walked away I was even more glad I did so; Derek was picking up Jessica for lunch. I rolled my eyes; I hated them both.

Working here was kind of a bummer since breaking up with Derek. I was lucky he generally worked on the opposite side of the building; but I would have preferred it if he didn't work in the same building at all. I constantly was looking about to try and find a job at another firm; but in general I was unsuccessful. The only way, it seemed I would be able to work elsewhere, is if I fulfilled my dream of becoming a lawyer, and opened my own firm.

Sighing, I pulled out my phone, wanting to shoot Jamie a text. I wasn't sure what he was planning on doing with his night off, but I hoped maybe he would want to hang out. All this talk and thoughts of Derek really made me miss him.

Haley – hey :) what are you up to tonight?

I didn't have to wait long before my phone buzzed in my hand, just before I was about to set it down to start typing up an email.

Jamie – Ty, Jess, Jord and I were all just going to watch the game at my place- you in?

Haley – of course :)

Jamie – come over whenever you're off- we’ll order take out or something

Haley – okay, see you then!

I pursed my lips, frowning at the screen. The rest of the afternoon was going to go by slowly; I just had a feeling. And I guess that's when I had a realization, in the midst of typing up the email; Derek knew everything that was going on between Jamie and I because of Jessica. Erica was telling Jessica; who was telling Derek.

I sighed with frustration; why couldn't he just stay the hell away from me?

.
“Jame” I greeted with a grin upon walking into his and Ty’s place. Typically I would have just walked past him, taking my seat on the couch, ready to watch the game. But this time, I stopped myself, pulling him in close to me and kissing him softly. “I love being able to do that” I blurted out without being able to stop myself.

“Me too” he whispered, our foreheads still pressed together, silly smiles on both our faces.

“Okay love birds, hurry up; you'll miss the game!” Tyler shouted, breaking up our moment.

“You're just jealous” I smirked back, taking a seat next to him, Jamie sitting on my other side.

“You don't have to be bummed you never got with me” Tyler shot back, a michevious look in his eyes.
“Uh- what?” I asked, a little taken aback.

“Jamie told me about your little crush” he snickered. I think I must have turned the shade of red of the Montreal Canadiens away jerseys, and my jaw dropped.

“It slipped out I'm sorry!” Jamie defended with a soft look.

“I hope you told him what else I said” I finally had the courage to say something else.

“Yeah he did, and I'm a little offended” Tyler pouted. I just had to laugh.

“You're just not my type” I tried to make my words sound less harsh than they did.

“Oh sure, try and make it up to me now” he rolled his eyes with a grin. Jamie slung his arm around my shoulder, pressing a kiss to my cheek.

“Don't think I'll let you off too easily now” I told Jamie, a serious look coming on my face. His smile vanished for a second; he couldn't tell if I was serious or joking.

“How about I make it up to you later” he whispered in my ear, sending chills down my spine. Tyler pretended he didn't hear what Jamie had said, suddenly focusing all of his attention at the tv.

“Then I can't wait” I replied, breathing my answer in his ear. I kissed his cheek before pulling away; I could tell he felt shivers down his spine as well.

“Gag me” Tyler mumbled, taking a big sip of his beer. “Remind me again why I wanted you guys to date so badly?”

I didn't have an answer to his question; but I was glad he did.

Just finished reading the whole story and may I say it's one of my favorites! I loved the story and relationships between the characters! I hope some day in the future you chose to make a sequel!

So I've been reading this story from the beginning and let me just say that I really like it. This last chapter is the first time I've ever really been put off by the end. The topic of a dying or deceased parent is touchy for me because I lost my dad suddenly at a young age. From personal experience, whenever someone brings my dad up in the middle of a fight I become infuriated! It's just a BIG no-no. You don't do that, it's just a low blow. I always feel it's slightly manipulative when a person says, 'well your dad would have wanted this,' or something like that. Frankly, I wish Haley had grown a backbone and put her foot down in this situation. Like I said I do like this story, I just wish you had handled this particular scene a little differently.

I read that Chapter 36 only now, and I think you could take a inspiration from short sexual stories about players too, there are full of tumblr. I think you surely know them, but if you read some more of them, you should learn something more ;)) sorry if I am tiresome again :D
