Never Let Go.

Gone Camping.

‘Jamie’s POV’

If there’s one thing I’m happy about for this season is that training camp is back in Ft. Worth. Which means I don’t have to go a whole week without seeing Kieran, something that always sucks about my job. Not seeing her sucks, as cheesy as it sounds I just like looking at her knowing that she's mine. In fact from my spot on the ice I can see her right now.

It’s Saturday, the second to last day of training camp and the arena is full of fans but I’d be able to spot that mop of red hair anywhere. Kieran has her mess of red curls twisted into a bun on the top of her head and she’s barely watching practice. I’m sure she would rather be anywhere but here on her Saturday free of work but I kind of begged her to spend the weekend down here. I used the old “Your parents would love to see you” line to really reel her in. And it worked..

So there she sits her long legs crossed Indian style in the arena chair a clipboard in her lap as she is handwriting thank you letters to those who came to our wedding. Our guest list was mild, under 200 people total so she thought it would be nice to do it herself. But I’m guessing after she did the first 20 she was wishing she would have just bought the pre-written cards. Looking away from the gorgeous girl I get back into the drill we’re working on with my line mates, Tyler and Val. We are going for the cup this year no excuses.

‘Kieran’s POV’

Writing these damn cards would be so much easier at a table but oh no, I’m writing them in the middle of a hockey arena. What more would you expect from a hockey wife right? Jamie’s lucky I love him and the guilt trip he used to get me down here didn’t help any. But it was nice to hang out with my parent’s last night, all of schedules make it difficult to see each other even if we do only live 45 minutes from one another.

Looking up from one of the hundred plus thank you cards I need to write to see my husband being an absolute dork on the ice. I shake my head letting a chuckle fall from my lips as I get back to writing. Sometimes I wonder if they ever get anything productive done at their practices?

I’m sure I stick out in the crowd of fans as I’m writing instead of watching but no one bothers me. An hour later I stuff the finished thank you cards into my purse along with the pen and clipboard, thank God Michael Kors makes his purses ginormous! When the practice is over most of the crowd leaves but some hang around hoping for autographs. As the remaining fans make their way to the side of the bleachers I know the players have started coming out. I straighten out my tank top and running shorts as I walk through the stands, finally stretching my legs after the long practice.

When I get closer I can see Jamie and Tyler signing some autographs so I stand back in the crowd watching them smiling as they sign, they’re so happy to be back playing hockey. The crowd dissipates slowly and eventually Jamie can see me standing off to the side, “Hey gorgeous want an autograph?” he chirps with a wink. I fake a gasp, “Does your wife know you’re such a flirt captain?” He grins, “Don't use up all your autographs babe I need you to sign this stack of cards I finished when you get home tomorrow!” Jamie groans and I give him a look that says “suck it up.”

With it being training camp Jamie can’t go home to my parents with me so I only get to see him for short time periods. After media and packing up his gear he walks with me out to my car that I strategically parked in a secluded area of the parking garage. We have 20 minutes before he has to be on the bus back to their hotel and we use it all. Climbing in the back seat of my Jeep like a couple of teenagers lips attached like we need each other to breathe.

Hitting his head off the window for the tenth time Jamie groans rubbing the back of his head, “You really need a bigger car babe.” Pulling my shirt back over my head I laugh at him, “No way, the Jeep stays until we have kids.” He sits up kissing me once again, “So when are we having kids?” Knowing he wants them as soon as possible I’m not sure how to answer so I just decide to be sassy, “We’ll see, maybe after you win me a cup.”

When he has to go I’m sad but I know he’ll be home tomorrow before their first pre-season game. This offseason has flown by full of exciting times and memories we’ll have forever, but now it’s back to business for the boys in green and they’re as hungry for victory as ever.
