Never Let Go.

Sweet Summertime.

‘Kieran’s POV’

Winning the Stanley Cup came with loads of obligations for Jamie and the rest of the Stars. Most of which required them to be in Dallas for most if not all of the summer. Which as basically a native Texan I wasn’t opposed to, it’s been years since we’ve spent the whole summer here.
Almost every week there was something Jamie had to do with the Cup, parades, parties, charity events, the NHL awards, fan events, hospital visits, they even brought the Cup to my clinic for a few hours. And as Captain Jamie did it all with a smile on his face, he was so proud that they had finally done it!

The Stars are having an absolute blast with the cup as each player gets a private day with the coveted trophy and soon enough it will be Jamie’s day with the Stanley Cup. Jordie has decided to take his day with the Cup home to Canada so Jamie is staying in Dallas with his.
Everything from alcohol, water, babies, pets, and food has been placed inside the Stanley Cup thus far in the celebrations. It’s too bad Jess isn’t due for a few more months or they could have put the first born Benn baby in the Cup! I guess they’ll just have to win it again next season, how’s that for motivation?

Speaking of Benn babies, no I’m not pregnant… well at least not yet anyway. Lying in bed one morning after winning the Cup Jamie looked over at me in all seriousness and said, “I won you the Cup.” Quite confused I just looked at him, “You won the city the Cup Jame, not just me.” He shook his head smiling, “Do you not remember what you said?” Well obviously not, “You said when I won you the cup we could have a baby, and well I did it…” I am sure that my face was a Kodak moment, priceless for sure. “Oh, uhh... Now?” I was clearly flustered, my cheeks felt a little hot and my heart was beating a little faster than normal.

“We’re ready babe, Finn’s a year old and Jordie’s having one I wanna be a dad too.” Well when he put it like that I could have cried right then, but were we actually ready? A child is a HUGE responsibility, but Jamie is great with kids especially Finley they’re best buds. Still sensing my fear Jamie pulled me on top of him looking me in the eyes, “If you’re still not ready we can wait babe, I- I’m just ready whenever you are.” Hands resting on the back of his neck I leaned in to kiss him, “Okay, I think we could start practicing a little more often.”

For Jamie’s day with the Stanley Cup, which he chose as his birthday we had a party at my family’s house out on Silver Lake. Most of Jamie’s teammates joined in and my whole family came out to the Lake to celebrate the Cup and Jamie. In addition to having the actual Stanley Cup in attendance I thought it would be fun to have Jamie’s birthday cake resemble he trophy as well. The cake version sure as hell tasted a lot better!

Finn sat like a trooper in the top of the real cup, at a year old he wasn’t exactly thrilled to be confined to that small of an area but it was too cute not to try. Running around in Uncle “JJ’s” jersey and swim trunks Finley melted everyone’s hearts, our nephew was too cute! Maybe it was time to have one of our own?

Out on the lake my dad drove his own boat while others rented them for the day. Jamie and I wake boarded and jet skied, while some took to just floating in the cool water taking in the relief from the dry southern heat. Climbing back into the boat after boarding I sat next to Jamie who had the cup in-between his legs, “I am sunburnt and exhausted,” I groaned laying my head on Jamie’s shoulders. He laughed a little pressing his lips to my forehead, “You are a little red babe, we should go back to the house they’ll be coming for the Cup soon anyway.” I nodded, “Hey dad, can you take us in to the mainland?” my dorky dad wearing a captain hat saluted us and steered the boat in the direction of the house.

Back on the main land I dried off and put clothes back on over my bikini, grabbing a drink to cool off. Soon enough the Cup keepers were back and we all said goodbye to the prized possession, pressing one last kiss to the cool metal. The white gloved men placed it back into the box and drove away taking the Cup to be cleaned before the next team member took it for a spin. As the sun dipped down into the water on this mid-July evening I looked around couples sat everywhere kids were laying in the laps of their parents, this team was a family and it was our turn to add to it.
