Overlooked

48 hours had passed and I still hadn't heard from her. I had left her a message yesterday morning letting her know I was thinking about her. Last night I checked my phone as soon as I got off the ice and I had no missed calls or texts. This morning I sent her a text early. I knew she would have been getting ready for class. She didn't respond. By early afternoon, I was stressing it. I decided to go downstairs to the hotel bar to shoot some pool and get my mind off it.

Dion and Colby were already there. "I got winner." I announced and Dion gave me a high five.

"Kick his ass bro. He is getting too cocky." He said and Colby grinned.

"On a roll, you sure you want some of this?" He asked and I started to rack the balls. He broke, sunk a solid and missed the next shot. I chalked up and lined up my shot. The eleven ball went flying off the table, a product of my frustration.

"Whoa, bad day man?" Colby asked and I nodded.

"Something like that. I can't get in touch with Carly. I think she is ignoring my calls." I said and he smirked, clearly knowing something I didn't.

"You got it so bad. I don't think I have ever seen you stress yourself about a female like this before. The wise old Colby is gonna relieve your fears though. Good thing for you, she is as bad off as your are. I talked to Meli this morning and they had dinner together last night before she went to work. She left her phone at my house and wasn't going to pick it up until later tonight. She had to work again. I'm sure you will hear from her soon." He said and I felt instantly better.

"I had her over the other night. Kind of left everything on the table with her. I fucked up man. I don't know how I never seen this coming. I should have never let Luke date her. I just always thought she deserved better than me." I said and he raised his eyebrows at me before taking another shot and sinking his ball.

"Maybe she does. She told me she saw you. She was really upset that night." He said and I couldn't help but feel bad.

"I didn't realize her and Meli were that close." I said and he put his arm around me.

"They are close, but her and I are closer. She has kind of become the little sister I never had. I didn't kick Luke's ass yet because I think it may be the best thing to happen but I'm warning you now. Don't take this lightly. If you screw with her, she will be crushed and I will kill you slowly, painfully." I backed off a little.

"It's not like that. I am in love with her. Crazy shit considering but like big wedding, little baby, fancy house type of in love with her. I don't care if I have to wait, she's mine." I said and he gave me a goofy grin.

"Well in that case.... welcome to the family bro. Now you know this isn't going to go well in the locker room. I got your back, just don't be a dick about it. Now let me finish you off so I can go say hi to my mama and little man at home."

He beat me easily and we both headed upstairs. I laid across the bed watching sports news trying to wrap my head around the fact that I was really, truly in love. It sure as hell wasn't all rainbows and butterflies. I was just closing my eyes when my phone started to vibrate. I picked it up and stared down at the screen.

I miss you too.
