Friction
She didn't text me after that and I resisted the urge to call her. I wanted to give her a little space and not overwhelm her. After what Colby told me, I felt better and didn't need reassurance from her right away. I texted her to let her know I was leaving for the arena and told her I'd try and score a goal for her. She responded fairly quickly.
You do that. Better tips when you guys win. Good luck.
I just smiled as I put the phone back in my pocket and locked the hotel room. The locker room was quiet and I was happy to see Luke was already out on the ice. I didn't want to cause any problems on the team. People that created drama got traded and I sure as hell couldn't have that happen.
I hit the ice and skated toward Colby giving him a thumbs up to let me know I was better. He nodded his head and went back to stretching. Warm-ups ended and I focused on playing. Subban was in my ear and I was trying to focus. I needed a good game. The team needed to keep playing well, which didn't happen in Toronto much lately.
The first period passed quickly, twenty minutes of fast skating and adrenaline leaving me winded. I took my time going up the tunnel toward the locker room. Luke was standing there, waiting for me. He didn't say anything, just stared as I walked past him and towards my stall. I was really trying to keep it together. After a few minutes of rest and a quick speech from Coach, we headed back on the ice.
We started the period with a power-play. Kadri hooked me up with a beautiful pass in the last few seconds of the advantage and I directed it past Price's glove. It felt good to get the first goal of the game and it seemed to energize the team. Dion scored ten minutes into the period and we killed of a penalty in the last few minutes of the second period.
The third period began and I ended up next to Luke on the bench after my first shift. "So you think Lena's free?" He asked and I laughed.
"Go for it bro. Have fun with that. I didn't screw up, you did." I said and I counted the seconds until my line got called again. I kept it focused even though I was annoyed and ended up with a breakaway with five minutes left. They had just scored and I knew we needed to close this game out. I went glove side and it barely made it passed Carey. The horn went off and I couldn't help but smile at the camera, knowing she was celebrating at the bar. I flashed I love you in sign language and headed back to bench.
The crowed booed as the final seconds ticked off the clock. We had stolen a win, in Montreal. It felt great. I headed off the ice.
I took my skates off and sat for a minute just catching my breath before I had to talk to our reporters. Colby came over and nudged me. "Remember when I said don't be a dick. Don't playinto the kid shit. It's not worth it." I let him know he was right and when the reporters asked about the show of affection I just laughed it off.
"I love my fans." I said and they all laughed. I was an idiot. Last thing I needed was the press running with a story about Luke and I having problems.
Notes
Still writing next chapter, should be up in a day or so. :)
I'm really liking what you've got so far....and not just because Luke and Joffrey are two of my favorite players in the league. Keep up the great work, I'm interested to see how you handle the trade to Philly/injuries and things like that. Can't wait for your next update!
