Overlooked
The Crush and the Boyfriend
Sundays were my usual day to relax and get stuff done around my apartment before the craziness of the week began. I never went out much on Sundays. I usually got up and cleaned my place, catching an afternoon game of some sort Then I usually ordered out and caught a good movie at night. I was halfway through mopping the kitchen floor when I heard my doorbell, thoroughly surprising me. It was before noon and most of the people I knew slept in late on Sundays.
I answered the door, in my pajamas, to face a smiling Luke. “Uh, hey Carly. Sorry, didn’t realize you wouldn’t be up and dressed by now.” He was blushing slightly and it was adorable.
“It’s ok, come in. I was just straightening up. Sunday is my hibernation day.” I said giving him a small smile. “So whats up? What brings you by?” I asked, curious as to why he would just drop by without calling.
“Well, kind of just wanted to see what you are up to for the day. We have off and I was wondering if you wanted to hang out. I would have called but I don’t have your number and Lupes didn’t answer his phone.” He looked at me nervously.
“We can. Let me finish up and get a quick shower. We can make something for lunch and find something to watch. I tend to stay in on Sundays if that is ok?” He nodded smiling and I threw him the remote. I went back to finish the kitchen confused. I was taken a little aback by the sudden interest of Luke. It was surprising to say the least. All of last season and the first half of this season he was content on meeting girls for random hookups. We never really hung out together alone. Now all of a sudden he was interested.
I tried to dismiss it all from my overactive brain and just try and focus on enjoying the day. I took a hot shower, changing into a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt, adding a hoodie to the mix and leaving my hair down. I went back into the living room and he was flipping through channels. “So what do you want for lunch?” I asked, figuring he may be hungry as it was about noon.
“Let’s just order something, no cooking. I’m sure we could both use a day off from life.” We settled on breakfast from a nearby diner and decided to watch the college basketball game that was on. After we ate, we kind of settled in, him wrapping his long arms around me and my head leaning against his chest. “Comfy Carly?” He asked and I slowly nodded, becoming more and more drowsy.
I ended up sleeping for two hours. I nearly jumped up when I woke up, startling him. He kissed my forehead sleepily. “Have a nice nap?” He questioned and all I could do was smile.
“You are pretty comfy. All that darn breakfast food.” I said and he laughed.
“It couldn’t be that you never take a break and you wear yourself out now could it?” He asked with a raised eyebrow and I just grinned. I knew he was right. We spent the rest of the day talking about our families and siblings. He lit up as he spoke about his two little sisters and his brother, Brayden. It really showed how much of a family-oriented guy he was.
After two hours of talking, he convinced me to go for a walk and grab dinner at a local family style Italian restaurant. “You can go as is. No getting changed.” He said and I finally agreed. We walked to the restaurant, the chilly Canadian air cutting through my layers and making me shiver. He pulled my body closer to him, his arms around me transferring his body heat to my body. I looked up and caught his gaze for a minute, our eyes locking before our lips slowly met in a delicate kiss.
Dinner was nice, we didn’t struggle for conversation and we had a nice meal. Afterwards, he bid me goodbye, promising to call me tomorrow and see me on Tuesday. I went home and contemplated everything that had happened. Could Luke be the key to helping me get over Joffrey? Was that even fair to assume?
I worked Monday night right after my classes and was only able to catch the game on television. The guys played well, scoring four goals against the Devils and securing a three-game winning streak. Joffrey called me not long after the game ended, asking me to grab a coffee with him after I got off of work. It took all the strength I had to turn him down. He needed to go home to his girl. He pleaded with me a little, telling me he needed some advice, but I was avoiding that situation. He often complained to me about her, but went right back with her even after my advice. It was a waste of time. Instead I went home, focused on getting a nice night of sleep so I could enjoy myself tomorrow.
The sun rose and it was beautiful out. It was cold, but there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I had only one class today, scheduled to end by eleven o’clock this morning. That gave me plenty of time to get my hair done and find something to wear. I was such a slacker when it came to picking out stuff to wear for dates. I finally gave up and headed straight to the mall after class. Three hours of shopping and I finally found the perfect dress on a clearance rack in one of the cheaper department stores. It was black, made my legs seem long and had a plunging neckline, making my chest look good. I paired it with silver and red jewelry I found on sale and a pair of heels that were fifty-percent off.
I went home and laid around for awhile before getting a shower and shaving. He was supposed to be picking me up at six o’clock and I didn’t want to be late. I was just finishing with my makeup when the doorbell rung. I took a deep breath before answering.
His mouth dropped open and he stared for a minute before composing himself and handing me the prettiest flowers I have ever seen. They were pink and white lilies, cascading from a round bowl. I sat them on the center of my table before slowing kissing him. “They are amazing.” I said and he pulled me towards the door.
“You look amazing.” He said as he opened the car door for me. Within minutes, we were at the restaurant, which was bustling with people. We sat at the bar waiting for Lupes and Lena who ended up showing up a few minutes later. Joffrey gave me a tight hug whispering Happy Valentine’s Day in my ear and letting me know he had a gift for me at home. I tried to suppress the giddiness I felt and concentrate on Luke, who looked amazing in a dark suit.
Dinner was ok, if you didn’t pay too much attention to Lena’s annoying whine about how she wanted her gift. We ordered dessert and champagne, Luke telling me we were leaving right after dessert and that he had another surprise for me. When the champagne arrived, I nearly passed out. Lena shrieked like she had hit the lottery, Luke looked stunned and I just glared at her as she slid the ring on her finger and her and Joff kissed.
I could taste the bile in my mouth as I fought back tears. I got up and looked at Luke. “You ready?” I asked as I turned to the now confused couple. “Good luck Lupes, make sure you get a pre-nup.” I said and walked towards the door. I was furious by the time we made it to Luke’s car. He pulled me into a hug.
“You ok Car?” He asked and I shrugged.
I didn’t want to explain to Luke how I was trying to get over Joffrey. He was a nice guy and I did really like him. Maybe not as much as I liked my former best friend, but enough to keep the option open. “Sorry for ruining dinner Luke. I just think he is making a huge mistake. She is only with him for his money.” Luke shrugged and I knew I had some making up to do with him.
“Come on Luke, let’s go to your place.” I kissed him and let his hands roam from my face to my lower back, threatening to go lower. At his place, we behaved for all of ten minutes before clothes were being tossed aside and he was exploring me with his mouth. I cried out in pure ecstasy as my body convulsed from the string of orgasms rippling through my body. This was Luke throwing his hat into the ring, and he was not backing down.
Not to be outdone, I finally conjured up the strength to take charge, making him moan my name, stifled by our mouths crashing together. He erupted inside of me and laid for awhile just rubbing my back and telling me I deserved someone who loved me. He started to fall asleep, me cuddled into his warm, strong body. My heart and mind were conflicted and the internal battle raged on as I struggled to fall asleep myself. He stirred for a second before whispering quietly into my ear. “Have you ever thought that just maybe you belong with me?”
Notes
Second one down
I'm really liking what you've got so far....and not just because Luke and Joffrey are two of my favorite players in the league. Keep up the great work, I'm interested to see how you handle the trade to Philly/injuries and things like that. Can't wait for your next update!
