A Second Chance at Love

We ended up getting up pretty early the next morning. We decided to get breakfast and then run on the boardwalk. My calves were still killing me from the day before but I just pushed through the pain. I let her know that I had scheduled massages for the afternoon. I just wanted to relax.

We went upstairs to get showered after the run and laid around for a little. We hadn't said too much since last night. I think the weight of our words were scaring both of us. We slept for a while.

My phone rang and woke us up around 12:30 pm. Jeff wanted to meet us for dinner and drinks. He had a date and needed something to do. I asked Raina. She seemed fine with it, excited even. We got our massages and hid in the room until it was time to meet for dinner.

Dinner went extremely well. We were downing bottles of champagne and getting pretty drunk. Jeff had brought the red head from Dave and Busters. I had to admit, I was impressed with her. He didn’t take his attention off her the entire night. We were walking towards the poker room when I leaned over to him “so you finally got some huh?” I asked with a smirk.

“Nah, not yet “ he answered quickly. I just laughed at him and kept walking.

We played poker for about an hour. By then it was late and Raina was claiming a headache from all the champagne. Her and Pam made plans to shop the next morning before we went home. We left Jeff and Pam by the card tables and went up to the room. I just laughed as she took my shirt off when we entered the room. “Is it so bad that I want you all of the time Mr. Briere?” she asked with a coy smile. No answered was needed. I knew I wasn’t going to get much sleep that night.

Raina and Pam went out shopping while Jeff and I went to breakfast the next morning. He was grinning and I knew there could only be one reason for it. “Danny I am screwed. That girl could talk me into robbing a bank. She is a goddess in bed.” He smiled like a little kid in a candy store. “So things are going well with Raina huh? I never thought I’d see the day when you are smiling again Dan. And you got the bonus of her being absolutely adorable and the team liking her. Mike constantly tells me how much he loves you two together.” Jeff looked up at me from his plate, smiling.

“Yeah, everything is going well, too well you know. It kind of scares me. No relationship is perfect. I mean last night she told me she loved me and then this morning she looked scared to death.” He almost spit out his orange juice.

“Well did you say it back?” he asked.

“Yeah, of course I did, I adore her. It kind of just came out without me thinking about it too much. Come to think of it, I am an idiot. I think I said it in French.” I frowned.

“Well you have your answer. She probably wasn’t sure this morning how you really answered her last night. I would have thought you were smarter than that.“ He said, motioning to the waitress for the check.

The girls came back not long after that. Raina had at least six bags in her hands, with she said were gifts for the kids. I just smiled at her and pulled her in for a kiss while taking the bags off of her. We said goodbye to Pam and Jeff and went upstairs to relax for a little while before the drive home.

She was still laying on the bed when I went over to my suitcase and got her gift. I handed it to her without speaking. She smiled softly and opened the small box. Inside was an opal and blue topaz necklace. They weren’t the most expensive stones in the world, but I knew she would appreciate the significance of our two birthstones together. “Danny’s it's beautiful. I love it” she whispered as she turned around for me to put it on.

“Raina, I love you. It’s insane, intense and scares the hell out of me. I don’t think I have ever felt like this before. But I know what I feel and I am completely in love with you. I told you last night but I wanted to make sure you knew” I said softly. She answered me by kissing my jawline and pulling me against her. We called for a later check out time and settled back into the bed.
