A Second Chance at Love

I woke up to my phone ringing the next morning. It was barely light out. I looked at the caller id and it was Danny. "Hey why are you waking me up at the crack of dawn?" I mumbled.

He laughed, "Doesn't Ryan have school? I figured you probably didn't set an alarm before I came over last night." I quickly thanked him. I forgot it was Monday already. His two youngest and Ryan were in the same school.

"This bed is so comfy, I don't wanna get up," I whined. "Get a shower and get him up. We can drop them off together. I dont have to be at the rink until nine. We can grab breakfast." He was so freaking happy in the morning.

I wanted to march across the street and smack him with my pillow. "Umm, ok, see you in a little bit then."

I got Ryan up and fed him breakfast. The shower would have to wait. I was not even trying to get in half asleep. "Hey Ry, You wanna meet one of Mommy's friends today?" He yelled ok to me, mouth full of cereal. "He has two boys that go to your school. And they all play hockey, including my friend." That peaked his interest. He had his shoes on in no time. I grabbed his bookbag and we walked outside.

The boys were running around on Danny's lawn bickering. He smiled and handed me a cup of coffee. "Welcome to my world" he whispered, winking.

"Hey boys, I want you to say hi to Raina and Ryan. They live across the street from us. Raina is my friend" he said to the three boys staring up at him. "Dad, don't you mean girlfriend? Caelan looked up and gave the that huge Briere smile before running towards the bus that had pulled up. All I could do was laugh.

Poor Ryan looked in awe of Danny. "Ry, you gonna say hi?" I looked at him .

"Where's Giroux?" Ryan asked. I burst out in laughter.

"Uncle Roo don't do mornings" Carson commented.

Soon enough we were in the car and pulling up in front of the school. There was a ton of adults in front, mostly women. Danny looked over at me and smirked. "You ready for this? You know once we step out together people are gonna talk." he whispered to me so the boys couldn't hear.

"Yep, let's do it." I squeezed his hand and stepped out of the car. I gave Ryan a kiss and he ran for the building. The two younger boys said goodbye to their Dad and waved to me and ran. Some of the mothers nearby started to whisper. He noticed it too.

He put his arm around me and smiled. "Cat's out of the bag dear, now you are stuck with me."

I stuck my tongue at him and jumped back in the car. "I think you owe me breakfast" He just shook his head at me as he got into the car.

We went to a nearby diner. "Ok, so why do you look so serious all of a sudden?" I asked him after we sat down.

"Raina, you know I was thinking last night------ oh god, well.. please tell me you are on the pill." He blushed six different shades of red.

I just smiled. "I know. I thought of that myself. I am but we need to be more careful anyway. You really need to control yourself Mr. Briere." I smiled at him and he started to loosen up.

He leaned over and grabbed my hand. "So if we are doing this, then we are doing it exclusively right?" he asked me.

"Yeah Danny, I would hope that is what it would be." It made me smile to see his reaction. He rubbed my hand and didn't take his eyes off of me the entire time we sat in the diner.

Once we were finished eating, we paid the bill and left. "I'm going to drop you off and get going. I probably wont be home until four o'clock or so. Do you wanna do dinner with the boys around 5:30?" he questioned.

"Sounds good boyfriend." I laughed and kissed his cheek. He stopped the car in front of my house. He got out with me and wrapped his arms around me. "Go be productive and shoot some pucks. Tell Kris to stop sending me dirty jokes through text too. Imma go get some work done for Max's charity gala next month." I gave him a small kiss.

He pulled away from me. "See you later pumpkin" he called and got into the car laughing.
