Intrigue

Two days later and I was burning out. Our jury selection was finally complete and we were wading through endless bullshit pre-trial motions from the defense. Brent was coming home tomorrow night and as it looked now, I would have to pull an all-nighter when he was home to get ready for my opening argument.

I couldn't wait until we took the trip together at the end of the season. I was going non-stop from dawn until almost midnight the last few days, spending as much time as I could with Madi and his parents and then cramming in my work. It was insane, but I loved my job and loved Brent and Madison.

Thankfully, court ended at four o'clock today giving me time to swing by and grab a present for Madi before getting home. I picked out a adorable soft baby doll and paid for it before speeding towards home. I walked in the house and Keith gripped me in the typical Seabrook squeeze. "Hey sis in law, how was work?" I smiled.

"Tiring, but we are getting there. So are you enjoying your niece?" I asked him as he picked her up and held her.

He grinned back at me. "She looks a lot like him. She has our eyes, lucky girl."

We sat down and ate dinner. Brent wasn't playing until tomorrow night so we just sat around and talked. Suzanne showed me some places online for weddings. I had already agreed to hold it in his hometown. I didn't have anyone but friends to invite and he had a big, close-knit family. She was thrilled with my decision and she couldn't contain her excitement when I picked a place to hold the wedding.

She promised she would find out what dates they had available this summer and would let me know. Gary grinned at me as the news reported on today's trial activities. "Atta girl. Make that scumbag pay for what he did to that poor guy." I smiled at him.

"I fully intend on it." I said, knowing I wanted nothing more.

I sat on the couch with Madi on my lap. I wasn't really feeling that great. My stomach was bothering me horribly, I had to stop eating the greasy food. Between that and the lack of sleep, my body was falling apart.

Keith and I played X-box for a while. Brent called me and I excused myself to bed. Madi was already passed out next to her uncle on the couch. "Hey baby how are things?" He asked.

"I feel horrible Brent. I am so worn out and just feel icky. I can' t wait until this is over." I laid back on the bed.

"Aww babe, soon. I'm sorry I am not there right now. I love you." I said goodnight and didn't even bother getting a shower as I fell asleep.

I awoke the next morning in a cold sweat puking my brains out. I felt horrible but dragged my ass into the shower and put on a clean shirt and blouse. I went downstairs and grabbed a granola bar and started to feel a little better. I headed to the office to work so I didn't wake up Keith and Madi, who were curled on the couch together. Mike was already in.

"Hey girl, what's up?"

I glared at him. "I feel like shit. I hope we get done early. I need more sleep or something."

He laughed. "My little baby doll. The life of a lawyer and mom . You will get used to it." I prayed I would as my body revolted against me.
