Intrigue

Brent stayed by my side until the doctor released me the next day. Flowers poured in from his teammates and my co-workers. Talking with him had helped and I started to feel a little better.

He was right, it wasn’t my fault. This definitely made me question how I wanted to live my life though. When we got home his parents were out with Madi. Keith had went back, he had a game to play.

We laid on the couch together and cuddled. He had his arms wrapped around me tightly. “I got you baby, please cheer up.” I forced a small smile at him.

“I love you too. Brent, I have been thinking a lot. I want a family. I don’t want life to pass me by while I work sixty to seventy hours a week.”

He smiled at me. “I love you and I don’t want our life to pass by too quickly. Talk to Alan, see if you can just be an associate and not work crazy hours. I work enough for you and I. I want you to have off when I do. Money isn’t an issue. I want babies, lot of them.” I cracked up.

He looked so excited. “I’ll talk to him tomorrow and see what he says.”

His mom and dad came home about an hour or so after we did. We were both asleep on the couch and they came in and laughed at us.

“Those two are so cute together.” His dad whispered to his mom.

“I know, I really feel bad. She probably hates me now. All that fuss I caused before about not her not wanting to be a mom.”

Brent rolled off the couch. “Shh she is sleeping you two.”

I kept my eyes close and couldn’t help but listen. “Mom I’m glad you have reconsidered your view on everything. She is my future wife and nothing will change that. We actually had a nice talk today and we decided we want a family. Losing the baby has kind of brought it up. She is going to try and tone down her role at work after this trial and we will get a nanny for the days she will work. “ His mom gave him a huge hug.

They talked quietly at the kitchen table, Madi asleep in his mom’s arms. I finally joined them, his dad giving me a hug.

“Ok, so you two. We were waiting for Alexa to wake up before talking to you about this.” His dad said. I have a business opportunity that could put me in the Chicago area and I am willing to take it provided you two would like the help. This way Mom can help you two with Madison and any future little Seabrooks to come. We would be here during the entire year, with the exception of July and August. So what do you think?“ Brent looked surprised.

“Well I do have a four year deal so I’m all for it. Hun, what about you?” I smiled at my future husband.

“I love it, if it isn’t too much of an inconvenience. Leaving Madi isn’t as hard when I know she is with you two. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a sitter. Honestly Brent and I just talked and we would like to have children sooner than later. I’m looking at asking for a reduced workload, maybe three days a week maximum. You son seems to want as he puts it- Lots of kids.”

His mom smiled proudly at him. I just laughed, Madi started to stir in her arms and I reached out for her. She smiled once she looked up and seen me and my heart melted. She was beautiful. She nuzzled her head into me and I leaned down and kissed her. "Hey baby girl. I love you." Brent placed his arm on her and she said "Dada" clear as could be. He looked at me surprised and Suzanne smiled. I have been trying to get her to say both. For the next hour, Brent try to capture it on video, which he finally did and immediately sent out as a mass message. He was becoming quite the father and I knew we would eventually add to our family.

Duncan and Sharpy came by later that night to say hi and hang out. Abby was due any day and Sharpy was bubbling with excitement. It was so funny to watch them talk about their daughters.

"So what the hell are you two gonna do when boys come knocking?" Duncan asked.

"Shoot em" Sharpy answered.

"Pass out" Brent said as they both laughed.

He was currently on the floor on all fours trying to get Madi to crawl to him. She had no interest and spend her time staring at her Uncle Duncan making raspberries. They finally left and we grabbed a bottle and headed up to bed, all three of us. Laying in bed I had to smile. At this very moment, I had the most amazing life.

Bad things may happen and I'm sure it won't be easy to smile everyday, but we have to cherish the happy moments we have and be thankful. Nestled in to Brent's arms with Madison laying on us, I whispered a quiet "thank you" to whoever was listening, whoever made this possible.
