Being a Hockey Wife

Well today's the day Jamie and I have arranged to go pick out our own German Shepherd Puppy. Yes, I caved I know. We still haven't decided on names yet but we know we would like a boy. I like Kelowna because of where Jamie played in the WHL and Jamie likes Rocket or Gretzky. He likes Rocket because in the WHL he played for the Kelowna Rockets and Gretzky because we both grew up idolizing him.

"Mads." Jamie just woke up while I was doing my hair and makeup and had wrapped his arms around me.

"What J?"

"Todays the day we start our family." He smiles at me through the mirror. I turn around and give Jamie a gentle kiss.

"Go shower or get cleaned up please. We need to leave soon." Jamie kisses me one last time before leaving to shower. I finish getting ready and head downstairs where I put a piece of toast in for Jamie while I drink my coffee.

"Babe" Jamie yells from upstairs.

"Yes?" I call back.

"What do I wear? And also what do we need to bring to get the little guy home?" He asks while coming into the kitchen.

"I have the leash ready. You already set the crate up and I will go grab a little toy for him to be interested on the way home."

"Do we have the right food? I got some bones when we were out yesterday." Jamie bites his nails.

"Are you nervous?" I ask while I wrap my arm's around Jamie's torso.

"A little." Jamie lifts my chin up to meet his soft lips.

"We should go. Eat your toast." I smile at him.

"Wait one more kiss." He pulls me back to him. I gently press my lips to Jamie's.

"I wanna meet our new puppy, lets go!!" I grab the keys to my Jeep and grab a Stars leash and a toy for our new family member. We get into the car and head about 45 minutes to Jim Smith's house.

"So you think you want a more energetic puppy?" Jamie asks me.

"Yeah so we can both go for runs with him and play around with him in the backyard. But also I want him to be able to snuggle with me when you're gone."

Jamie reaches across the console and puts his hand on my thigh. "Why can't I take him on road trips so I can snuggle with him?"

"Because you only get to snuggle with me." I squeeze his hand.

"So I was thinking I like Kelowna." Jamie says.

"No you don't have to change your mind. When we pick one we can see if he looks or acts like a Rocket or Kelowna."

"Okay but I do like Kelowna Mads."

"Okay." We turn into the drive way where we will pick up our little bundle of joy. We get out and meet Jim Smith.

"Hello Mr. Benn great season you are having! You must be Mrs. Benn?" Jim extends his hand to me.

"Call me Madison." I smile and shake his hand.

"So would you like to see the puppies. I have three boys and two girls left."

"Yeah lets take a look. I think we were leaning more towards a male." Jamie says.

"Okay come on in. I have the mother here, and I have pictures of the father." He leaves and all of a sudden five german shepherd puppies run out of a door to us.

I crouch down and two puppies attack my face licking me. I laugh and pet them. One is a boy and one is a girl. I look at Jamie and he crouches down with me and pets them. I play with them for a while when Jamie talks to Jim about the mother and father. The father is very beautiful and so is the mother, they both like to be active but will settle down which I love. I am playing with a male who I know I already want to keep, I just need Jamie to see if he likes him too.

"Jame?" I ask and Jamie nods and walks over to me.

"Hi cutie." Jamie coos and scratches him behind the ear. The puppy lifts his leg up and looks relaxed with Jamie scratching him. "I like him, you?" Jamie asks and I nod. He kisses me on the cheek as we play with the puppy for about 15 more minutes. "Are you a Kelowna or a Rocket?"

"After the Kelowna Rockets?" Jim asks.

"I played for them in the WHL."

"My nephew is drafted for Vancouver Giants."

"Rivals." I add while they both laugh.

"I like Kelowna, its unique." Jim says.

"Me too." I smile.

"Well Jim if its okay can we take this little guy off your hands?" Jamie asks.

"For sure." Jim says and Jamie follows him about all the papers and money. I put the Stars collar and leash on. I hope Jamie starts to like Kelowna as a name. My puppy is the cutest little boy and I know I am going to have him wrapped around my finger. Jamie comes back and we take our little bundle of joy.

"So Kelowna?" Jamie asks and I kiss him quickly.

"I love it." I smile at Jamie.

"I love you."

We get into the car and I sit in the back with Kelowna on my lap. We drive slowly because Kelowna is getting used to his surroundings. We get home and I let Kelowna into the backyard with a tennis ball around. I snap a picture of Kelowna and Jamie playing around and post it to Instagram. 'Welcome to the family Kelowna. #NewestBenn' and run to join the fun with my little family.
