One Shot: The Argument

The Fallout

Lauren stormed out of the room fighting back tears. Sidney followed after her, taking giant strides to catch up with her.
“Lauren! Wait. Stop! Come on, don’t be like this!”
He reached for her arm, grabbed hold, and spun her so that they were now facing one another. Lauren looked around doing everything in her power not to look him in the eyes. The team had come into the hallway and she could see them just over his shoulder. Fine. If he couldn’t handle this like an adult then she didn’t have to. If it was a scene he wanted then it was a scene he would get.
“You can’t just quit because of whatever I did. That’s ridiculous. Where are you gonna go,” he questioned. He tried to portray indifference but even she could hear his voice waver with concern.
“I’m leaving. I’ll find another job. Another team to go to. One with a captain that respects me and doesn’t do things to screw with my feelings. One with a captain who doesn’t blur the line between my professional and personal lives,” she stated as she jerked her arm out of his grasp.
“Just stay. I don’t know what I did but for what it’s worth, I’m sorry for it. We can figure this out.”
“No. We are done. That’s how this works. You screw with me and I walk. I told you that from day one,” her voice was calm and stern though her inside voice was screaming and crying.

Sid just stared at her. He could tell Lauren was incredibly upset. She never was this confrontational with him. Normally he could just smile at her and all would be well. This time it didn’t seem like that was going to work.
Lauren clenched her fists before opening her palms and taking a deep breath. She looked up into his hazel eyes searching for her confidence. She knew that if she looked for too long she would lose her nerve to confront him.
“For the record, Sid, you flirted with me. You made me feel like you really liked me. That was incredibly unfair. Especially since it doesn’t seem like you and I ever really had a fair shot.”
Sid tried to interrupt, “No. Come on Lo, it’s not like that. It never was.”
She shot him a glare and he grew quiet. She began to speak, her voice growing louder with every word.
“We hung out. We did stuff together. Stuff that was really fun. Stuff that I loved doing and especially because I was doing them with you. And and then you just turn around and bone the next puck bunny you find?!”

Well at least now he knew what she was angry about. But she was twisting things around on him. He never wanted that bunny. He only wanted Lauren. The bunny forced herself on him just as Lauren happened to notice. It was a classic case of wrong place, wrong time. By the time Lauren was done talking, Sid was fuming.
“Oh please! I know how this works. Girls come and go all the time. They love it when I win and are nowhere to be found when I lose.”
“Well, it seems like you have it all figured out then don’t you? How is that approach working for you Sid? Or did you forget who was the one there after every loss this season. Who was the one who drove you home when you couldn't because you were so inconsolable after playing a crappy game?! News Flash: It was me! Not some bunny!” At this point, Lauren was practically screaming at him. The tears she had been fighting against began to leak onto her cheeks. Her chest was heaving; gasping for air between sobs.

Sid stopped. He looked at her and it was then that he truly saw how much she cared. Lauren had always been the one to pick up his broken pieces and now she was broken and it was his fault. He reached out to brush the tears from her cheeks when a manicured hand wrapped around his bicep.
“Great game babe. God! You are such a stud on the ice.” The girl’s voice was a sugary sweet tone that gave Sid goose bumps and not in the good way. She smacked her lips together and she chewed on a piece of bubblegum.

Lauren looked the girl up and down. Spray tan. Caked on makeup. Hair extensions. The girl noticed Lauren staring.
“Can I help you sweetheart? Or are you just admiring the view? Siddy and I just make the most attractive couple don’t we?”
Lauren looked at Sid, fresh tears in her eyes.
“Oh Sid....this is so low even for you.”
Lauren stormed off and Sid did nothing but watch as Hayley or wait was it Brittany’s claws tightened around his arm.

Pascal Dupuis and the rest of the team watched the girl they grown to love, hell the girl who had become a part of the Penguin family and his own family walk away. Duper brushed past Sid, staring at him with great sadness in his eyes.
"Mon garçon, what have you done?

Notes

Hey y'all! I just had this spring into my mind during class so I decided to jot it down. Obviously, I don't any characters except for Lauren and the puck bunny. Hope you enjoy!
