You Make Me Want To

17: Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right

Addie frowned. Jamie was avoiding her. She had texted him to see what he was up to, and invited him over. He told her he was tired and just wanted alone time. All he had wanted for the last week and a half was alone time. They had hung out twice. She missed him. She didn't know what to do. She was supposed to go to the game tonight, but it didn't seem like Jamie even wanted her there. It didn’t help that Vanessa had gone home and Paisley was always with Val so she never had anyone to whine to.

"Addison!" Paisley called, walking into the apartment "Are you getting ready?"

"I'm not going." Addie sighed, laying on the couch.

"What? Why not?" Paisley's brows furrowed.

"Jamie hates me." Addie whined.

Paisley laughed. "What are you talking about?"

Addie growled, sitting up. "He won't talk to me. I asked him to come over and he said he wanted to be alone. He's been alone all week!"

"Well, Demers was walking to his apartment when we got in." Paisley explained. "Send him a text and ask him to talk to Jame."

Addie nodded. That was a good idea. She sent Jason a text. She explained the situation to him. He told her he'd try to talk to Jamie for her. She thanked him and then started to get ready. She didn't care how she looked tonight. Jamie wouldn't talk to her regardless.

Jason could tell Jamie didn't want to talk about anything. Jason texted Jordie about it. Jordie knew something was up with Jamie before anyone else did. He knew his brother. Jordie decided he'd make Jamie take a walk with him before they began warming up. He waited for Jamie and Jason outside the change room. He stood up with his arms crossed when they round the corner. Tyler and Val trailed behind them.

"We need to talk." Jordie said as Jamie approached him.

"Okay, what's up?" Jamie nodded.

"Maybe we should talk privately." Jordie suggested.

"Jord, they're our teammates. Just talk." Jamie chuckled.

"Alright." Jordie sighed. "What's up with you lately? You've been really off, pushing your girlfriend awa,"

"Addie is not my girlfriend." Jamie cut her off.

Tyler understood. He stepped forward, grabbing Jamie's shoulder. "Is this about what we talked about?"

Jamie glared. "It doesn't matter what it's about. I don't need all of you coming at me at once." He tried to bump past Jordie.

Jordie stopped him. "Stop. You need to talk to us."

"Is this because Addie doesn't want a title, Jame?" Tyler exhaled.

"Can you all stay the fuck out of my problems?" Jamie snapped.

"We're just trying to help." Jason frowned.

"Well stop. You can't help with this." Jamie hissed. "It's my relationsh,"

"But it isn't a relationship." Tyler hissed. "She doesn't want that with you."

Jamie froze. He just stared at Tyler in anger and disbelief. Tyler realized the damage of his words. But he didn't care. Jamie was being a complete dick for no reason. Jamie let out a sigh. He excused himself, walking into the change room. All the guys sighed, following his lead.

The game was rough. Since Jamie and Tyler weren't on good terms, their chemistry was off. Jamie was missing passes and making bad passes. Tyler couldn't get a pass or a shot on net. Both knew the problem. The team was leaving and it was their fault. Jamie took a deep breath, looking up at the box. He saw Addie sitting in the front, leaning forward. She had her leg up, resting her head in her hand and her elbow on her knee. She looked sad. That was also his fault.

"Segs, listen." Jamie spoke, not looking away from Addie. "We need to start playing together. I know you're upset with me, and I'm upset w,"

"Let's get it." Tyler cut him off.

Jamie looked over. Tyler was grinning. Jamie smiled back at him. They hit the ice and started trying to make things happen. They had more shots on goal, they were connecting their passes, they were reconnected. Tyler was fighting for a puck in the corner. Someone hit him and he dropped. Jamie watched him scream out in pain. Jamie sprinted over, shoving people away.

"Segs, you okay?" Jamie called out to him after he shoved most of the opposing team off.

Tyler shook his head, lifting his left side off the ice. “Something’s off. My shoulder isn’t right.” He said.

Jamie frowned before he turned to the bench and waved over the team medic. Tyler was helped off the ice. Jamie helped the medic. Even if he was still pissed at Tyler, that was still his best friend. And his partner on the ice. He never wanted to see anyone on his team hurt. Tyler’s injury through everyone off for the rest of the game. They ended up losing.

Jamie was still upset with Tyler. He sent him a text telling him to get better soon. Tyler read it and didn’t reply. He was mad at Jamie too. He understood why Jamie would be mad at him, but letting it affect the way they played together wasn’t okay. That’s why Tyler was mad. His phone pulled him from his thoughts. It was Vanessa.

“Hello?” He answered.

“How long are you out?” She exhaled.

“Two to three weeks.” He chuckled.

“Okay, I’m looking at flights right n,”

“You’re not flying out here.” He cut her off.

“Excuse me?” She scoffed.

“You don’t need to miss school over me injuring my shoulder.” He explained. “And it’s a waste of money.”

She laughed. “Trust me, I can miss a couple classes. And I don’t know if you heard, but I have more money than I know what to do with.”

“You don’t need to come here, Vanessa.” Tyler sighed.

“Shut up. I’ll be there tomorrow night. I’ll get Addie to pick me up.” She told him.

“Fine, then I can give you your gift.” He smirked.

“You did not get me a gift for Valentine’s Day.” She whined.

“Of course I did.” He hummed. “I’ll see you soon.”

Tyler woke up to music coming from his kitchen. He shot up, wincing in pain. He forgot about his shoulder. He got up slowly. He walked as fast as he could into his kitchen from his room. He was in some basketball shorts and nothing else. He could hear a female humming along. He slowed as he walked into the kitchen. He saw Vanessa standing at the stove. She was cooking and listening to her own music. A smile spread across Tyler’s face. She slowly looked over at him.

“Oh, shit.” She mumbled. “Surprise!”

Tyler walked over and kissed her. She finished cooking for him. They ate on the couch together. He just kept leaning over to kiss her. It made her blush.

“Ness, thank you.” He said as she placed her fork in her mouth.

She furrowed her brows as she chewed then swallowed. “For breakfast?”

He shook his head. “No, for everything. For coming out here to take care of me.”

She shrugged. “I like to believe you’d do the same for me.” She gave him a small smile.

“Absolutely.” He nodded, leaning over to kiss her again.
