You Make Me Want To

09: Your Man

Jamie tilted his head as he read the note on his front door. It was in Addie's writing. She asked him to come over around seven after he was all showered, rested, and settled. He smiles, pulling the note off as he opened his front door. He stuck the note onto the wall near his kitchen. He took off his suit jacket and walked towards his room with his bag. He tossed the bag on the floor and draped his jacket on his door. He checked his phone. He had a text from Addie.

See you at 7?

He smiled before he told her he wouldn't miss it. He set his alarm for five-thirty before he went down for a nap. He woke up flustered as his alarm went off. He knew he had to get up though. He couldn't keep hitting snooze today. He had to go see Addie. He let out a long breath as he sat up. He was tired but excited. He smiled as he walked to the shower.

Addie wasn't as calm. She was so stressed out. She wanted to make sure she made the perfect meal for Jamie. He deserved it. She had called her Nannie from when she was a kid to ask for a recipe to make. Addie was still close with her, she was like her second mother. Addie managed to not fuck up the dish. It was some chicken and pasta dish. That was about all hockey players ate. She was content with how it turned out. She checked the clock. Jamie would be over in a half hour and she wasn't ready.

She finished what she needed to do and took off to get ready. She hopped in the shower and was in there for less than five minutes. She just quickly washed her hair, touched up on her shaving a bit, and hopped out. She kept her hair in a towel as she got dressed. There was no way it would be dry by the time Jamie came over, but it didn't need to be dripping. She settled on some tights and a nice shirt with a cardigan. She didn't feel like she needed to impress Jamie. Not that she didn't like to.

She was putting the final touches on her make up when the doorbell rang. She finished what she was doing then set down the brush. She walked through her home to the door. She took a deep breath. Was she nervous? She straightened her shirt out with the heels of her hands as she walked through the living room more. She got to the door and peaked through the peephole. Jamie looked good. He always looked good. She took another deep breath before she opened the door.

Jamie scooped her into him with one arm. He pressed his lips to hers while his arm was wrapped around her waist. His other hand cupped the side of her face. He could feel her hair was still damp. Her hands were tangled in the material of his shirt. She didn't want this kiss to end. She had missed him a lot. They broke apart slowly. Jamie gave her another small peck as he pulled back.

"Hi." She smiled up at him.

He rubbed her cheek with his thumb. "Hey."

"I missed you." She told him, biting her bottom lip.

He smiled wide, pulling her into a hug. "I missed you so much." He sighed. "Losses without someone there are bad but wins without someone might be worse."

"Oh yeah! You guys had three wins!" She exclaimed, pulling back. "Tell me all about the games over dinner, okay?"

He nodded and pushed the door closed as she dragged him into the dining area. The table was set. The food was all out as well. He didn't know what it was, but it smelled and looked good. Addie was nervous. He could see how tense she looked. Jamie rubbed her right shoulder with the thumb of his free hand. She let out a long sigh.

"I worked really hard, all day, on making this, so if it's disgusting, let me know and I'll order something." She breathed out as she walked around the table.

He sat across from her. She grabbed his plate and put a small amount of food on it before handing it back to him. He narrowed his eyes at her with a smile. They both knew he ate bigger portions than that. He picked up the spoon and piled food onto his plate. Addie let out a breath. She was so worried it was going to be gross. She watched Jamie bring a piece of the chicken with a noodle to his mouth. He chewed and his eyebrows rose. He swallowed.

"This is delicious, Adds." He said as he scooped some more onto his fork. "Have some!"

She put some on her plate. Not as much as what was on Jamie's but enough. She agreed, she did well. He started talking about each game with her. She just stared at him and nodded when necessary. She loved listening to him talk about what he loved. She loved spending time with him. He made her happy. She almost felt like a better person with Jamie.

They finished eating and began cleaning up. Addie had argued with him to just go pick a movie and not help, but he insisted. They did the dishes together and cleaned everything else up. A bit of a splash war went on. They both had giant spots of water on their shirts. Neither cared though.

Jamie sat on the couch and Addie walked over to the cabinet underneath her TV. When she opened it, there were a bunch of DVDs. There was a separate DVD to the right of the second rack. She picked it up, closed the cabinet, and walked over to Jamie. She extended the DVD to him.

"Your favourite movie." She explained.

He smiled. She remembered that he loved the movie The Sandlot. All Jamie had seen to do tonight was smile. He just felt so happy. Happier than he had been in a while. Addie put the DVD in the DVD player. She came back over, sitting next to him. He frowned at her. She furrowed her brows. What was she doing wrong? Jamie tapped her hip so she would stand. He laid down and patted the spot in front of him. She rolled her eyes and laid down. He wrapped his arms around her, pecking behind her ear.

"I just wanted to be close to my girl." He whispered to her.

Addie smiled. His girl. She loved the sound of that. She turned her head to his and kissed his lips. He kissed back. She loved where she was in her life. So did Jamie. Both finally had someone who could understand their hectic schedule and still wanted to make it work.

It was more than just that for Jamie. For years, he had been trying to find a girl that was interested in him. Everything about him. Not just his money, or his status, or his sport. But his interests outside of hockey, his family, his life back home, his past, his future. And Addie cared about all of that. She just cared about him. She was exactly what he needed and he noticed a change in himself ever since he met her. He was happy. Not that he wasn't happy before, but he always felt happy now.

Addie growled as her phone buzzed. She was nuzzled into Jamie and both were falling asleep. She patted her hand around, and found it. She answered it without opening her eyes. She took a deep breath as she placed it to her ear.

"Hello." She grumbled.

"Hi, I have a question." Vanessa hummed.

"It's late, Ness." Addie sighed.

"I know but I couldn't sleep." Vanessa explained.

"Okay, what's up?" Addie said, waking up a bit.

"You would tell me if Tyler was messing around, right?" Vanessa breathed.

Addie squeezed her eyes shut tighter. The cat was out of the bag on the two. Tyler was told by one of the guys about Addie and Paisley going through his phone. Addie thought it was Jamie who told him, but Paisley was pretty sure it was Jason Demers. Regardless, Tyler begged them not to ruin it for him. They didn't know why he'd even think they would. If Vanessa liked him, he obviously wasn't that big of a dick.

"Yeah, and he hasn't done anything. He doesn't even look at other girls." Addie told her.

"Okay, sorry for being annoying." Vanessa frowned.

"V, I don't know what you did to get him to change his ways but he has." Addie clarified.

"I just told him to stop being a womanizer because I wasn't okay with that." Vanessa explained. "I'm scared of getting hurt, Addie."

Addie took a deep breath. "Tyler doesn't even come out with the team anymore. I think he's in it and I don't think you're going to end up hurt."

"Thank you." Vanessa smiled. "I'm sorry for bugging you and Jamie."

Addie laughed a bit. "Just me, Jamie's still out."

The girls ended their conversation. Addie cuddled into Jamie. He held her tightly. She smiled against him. He rubbed her back slowly. She let out a long breath.

"Has Tyler been fooling around with any other girls?" Addie whispered to Jamie.

"No, he doesn't do anything beside train. He hasn't since a week before we went to the club." Jamie recalled. "I think he really likes Vanessa."

"Good, because she really likes him." Addie breathed before burying her face into his chest.
