The Gentle Giant

She was all smiles walking into the terminal at the airport to meet me. “Hey beautiful, where is my little girl?” I asked her.

“She is at Raina and Danny’s right now. We have to pick her up.” I kissed her quickly.

“I miss you. What have you been up to since yesterday?”

She gave me a sweet smile. “Well I ended up just staying at Danny’s place and helping Raina out. He looked horrible Andrej. He seems a little better today though. She is really worried about him. His demeanor is completely off, that is for sure. He’s not taking it well. He kind of flipped out on Raina last night. She was really upset.”

I shook my head. That was so unlike him. “Why did he get mad at her?” I asked hoping he had some kind of valid reason.

“She was just trying to get him to eat something, which he was refusing of course. He’s on a ton of painkillers right now and she was worried he would feel sick to his stomach from them. He got mad and threw her out of the bedroom. Told her to leave him alone.”

I thought about it for a minute. “Maybe he needs to vent to someone. I’ll call Mike and make him go over there. Kris is going to stop by with Bella later, they want to spend time with us and Andreja. He seem weird all week long. I’m thinking she may be pregnant or something.” Dani squealed. “Baby, don’t get too excited, I am not sure. Just a thought.”

She started talking really quickly. I noticed her French Canadian accent always came out when she got excited.

I grabbed her and pulled her into me, kissing her neck. “Let’s go home first, think Raina will mind?”

She smiled. “Nah, she told me to take my time.”

We went back to our place for a little over an hour before showering and heading to Danny’s. Raina seemed sullen, sitting on the back porch watching the boys play in the yard. The twins were playing near her in their sandbox. I went over and gave her a hug. “Call me if he keeps being an idiot. I have to run home and meet Kris but I will call you later. Mike should be here in an hour or so to check on him.” She nodded and went back to watching the kids.

I grabbed Dani's hand. “I’m worried about her. She seems so down.”

She looked over at me. “We will come over tomorrow and check on them ok? We gotta make it back to our place in time for Bella and Kris.”

We raced home and just barely beat them to our apartment. Once the got there we ordered food in and hung out. Kris was all smiles as he held Andreja and played with her, certainly giving me the impression they were expecting.

I finally let the suspense get the better of me. “Kris you gonna be a daddy anytime soon?”

He just grinned. “Not anytime soon. We want to wait a while for all that. Besides there are more than enough babies around on the team right now. Honestly, we came to see if you guys would fly to Vegas during the NHL awards and be our best man/maid of honor type deal. I already called Maman and she agreed to watch Andreja for the long weekend.

I looked at Dani and smiled. “Sounds good to me. Do you want to double the fun Dani?” I knew she didn’t want to plan a big wedding.

“Nope, no way. I decided we are getting married in Slovakia. I just gotta get with Danny on a week they can fly in. As long as him and Maman can make it, we are good.”

I kissed her cheek. “Knew I loved you for a reason.” I cuddled her closer to me and we talked with Bella and Kris for a while.

"So are you going to come back to work?" Bella asked. I looked at Dani for her answer.

"Honestly, I don't think so. Andrej is working hard enough for the both of us and I like being able to be home with her. Besides, I think someone fell in love with being a Daddy and eventually I'd like to give him a little boy. Not any time soon though." she said smiling at me. I held her close and whispered "thank you" in her ear.

Bella and Kris left not soon after. She fed Andreja after I bathed her and we laid on the couch together watching the Devils game. "So baby, you really would like more children then?" I asked rubbing her forehead.

"Yes, but I think I will be scared being pregnant again. I know now it wasn't my fault she came so early and there is a good chance it won't happen again but it will still worry me." I kissed her neck. I couldn't ask for a better woman as the mother of my child. She was everything my mom was to my dad. I knew we had come a long way from where we started.
