Love that We Deserve

Alaska

****FLASHBACK****

Magdalena and Tyler were six months into their friendship and it had substantially developed. From texting, and calling each other everyday, to eating out and seeing a movie every second they can, Tyler and Magdalena were almost inseparable. They spent a countless amount of nights together, watching the stars, driving through Boston, partying and eventually they both grew comfortable enough to be themselves around each other.

Tyler and the Boston Bruins won the Stanley cup for the 2010-2011 season, or in Tyler’s case, his rookie year. Tyler was on top of his game, as well as the world. He had received a big bonus and all sorts of attention, which he never had a problem with. Girls were all over him, paparazzi were all over him, he was gaining more followers on his twitter and he was starting to become more recognized in Boston. For a nineteen year old, Tyler was doing exceptionally well.

Magdalena had taken an interest in modelling for the summer and had already received tons of phone calls and opportunities for a future in the industry. At the time being, she planned on only doing it for the summer, but so far she was contemplating on whether or not she would just pursue it full time. She did enjoy it afterall.

This is it?” Tyler bluntly asked as he pulled up in front of a small wooden cabin. Magdalena looked over at him and rolled her eyes.

“What?” Magdalena smirked.

“I thought it would be more...modern you know?”

“Oh my God Tyler, shut up and let’s get everything inside,” Magdalena playfully hit Tyler and stepped out of his Range Rover.

Tyler and Magdalena decided to spend their last days together in Kenai, Alaska, before Tyler went home to Toronto for the rest of the summer. They had driven three hours from Magdalena’s hometown Anchorage and arrived at Magdalena’s family cabin, that was right by the lake.

Magdalena went around the vehicle tugging on the rope that held the kayaks on the roof of the car. Tyler pushed his sunglasses into his hair and chuckled as he watched Magdalena hop, attempting to get the kayaks down. Magdalena hopped up and gave the kayaks a shove and there was a small clicking sound as the kayaks began to slide down. Magdalena turned around and tried to run away before getting hit by them.

“Did you need help?” Tyler laughed.

“Obviously not,” Magdalena sarcastically responded. She struggled, but managed to lift up the smaller, yellow kayak and started to walk up to the cabin before feeling a sharp pain on her butt. She turned around annoyed and saw Tyler standing there holding the paddle in his hand, amused by his ridiculous stunt. Magdalena shot a glare at Tyler and he dropped his paddle and clutched onto his abdomen from laughing so hard.

“Maybe this won’t be so bad after all” Tyler said after his fit of laughter and winked at Magdalena.

After an hour of bringing things into the cabin and cleaning up the place Tyler plunked onto the brown leather couch that was placed in front of the fire place and took his phone out from his pocket.Tyler opened up twitter and snapped a picture of the window where the light was shining through, with his feet in the photo as well.

Some r&r before tdot #whereami?

Magdalena threw down an arm full of folded blankets on top of Tyler and sat on the couch adjacent to his.

“These won’t keep me warm?” Tyler sneered. “Join me” He said as he patted the cushion next to him and a coquettish grin formed on his face as she sat perpendicular from him, with her head by his lap. Tyler smiled while he carried on twitter, swiping through his news feed.

Tyler valued their friendship, but he valued whatever he felt in his pants a bit more. He had been trying to get it in with Magdalena since their first movie date. He had agreed to joining her on this trip, only because he knew they would be isolated and he could finally achieve a lay with her, cross her off his list, and add another notch to his belt. He watched as Magdalena played ‘Unlock me’ on her iPad. He slid his right arm next to Magdalena and stopped when he felt skin, he began to trace circles along her bare skin and his fingers began to crawl up her shirt. He felt Magdalena shift next to him and he stopped.

“Let’s go into the hot tub,” Magdalena grinned devilishly, trying to escape from whatever kind of situation Tyler was trying to put her in.

“There’s a hot tub here!?” Tyler exclaimed as Magdalena got up.

“Mhmm,” Magdalena hummed as she slowly peeled her shirt off revealing her black two piece swimsuit. She then proceeded to removed her shorts and threw them on the couch. Tyler shook his head happily and set his phone down and took of his shirt revealing his perfectly chiseled body. He already had his boardshorts on. Magdalena tugged on Tyler’s arm, trying to pull him off the couch, and let go when she failed. Tyler laughed at her sad venture and got up. The wooden floor creaked beneath them as walked through the cabin. They stepped out onto the warm deck and the hot tub had already been turned on and cleaned out. Tyler smirked at Magdalena, knowing that she planned this. Maybe she wanted him just as bad as he did.

Magdalena let out a yelp as she felt Tyler’s cold hands against her waist and he picked her up with ease and made his way to the hot tub. He set Magdalena down, inside of the tub and then sat behind her. He clenched his stomach when he felt a sensation in his pants as Magdalena’s soft skin rubbed flush against his own. He bit his tongue, foreseeing the possible events that could happen in this very hot tub.

Whereas Magdalena was anything but relaxed, she was unsure of anything that she felt for Tyler, or if she even felt anything at all. She felt like she could trust him, and tell him everything and it would always be okay. They hardly ever spoke about hockey, even though that was Tyler’s life, in fact Magdalena hadn’t even seen any of his hockey games in person, Tyler would always offer her tickets, and she would decline. she peered ahead at the stretch of trees that went on infinitely. Each time she breathed in her nose the smell of pine, sticky soil and the funny smell of the lake followed and brought her to tranquility. The sounds of birds chirping and the water moving took over Tyler and Magdalena’s ears as they began to doze off into each others arms.

Afterwards, when the sun had begun to set Tyler and Magdalena had started a fire in backyard and were wrapped in a blanket, they had enough for both of them to use separately, but there were no questions asked when they shared one. They conversed for several hours talking about each others childhood and memories that they now shared. It took Tyler’s mind off of his initial plan of getting Magdalena into bed with him for the night. Magdalena felt closer to Tyler as he spoke about his parents’ recent divorce and how he was adjusting to it. The light that was coming off of the fire created a glow on his face and caused Magdalena’s already unstable hormones to jump around like pop-corn.

“What?” Tyler said when he noticed her gaze.

“Nothing,” Magdalena smiled. Tyler continued and moved on to certain experiences in his life that he would never forget. His first time driving, his first time skating, his first kiss, getting rejected by the World Juniors team, his time in Plymouth, everything; it got to a point where Magdalena was sure that she had been with him the entire journey. She couldn’t help but have a goofy smile on her face as he spoke, his voice deep and soothing. She was hypnotized by his words.

“...What about you?” Tyler asked, surprising Magdalena.

“Uh..Me?”

“Yeah, your first? Do you even remember?” Tyler nudged Magdalena. Magdalena grew warm at how awkward the conversation just got. Tyler was asking who was her first sexual encounter, and Magdalena didn’t have one. Magdalena hesitated to answer and before she could say anything a gasp escaped from Tyler’s throat.

“You’re a virgin aren’t you!?” Tyler laughed. Magdalena shot her eyes up.

Kill me now. She thought to herself embarrassed.

Jackpot. Tyler laughed to himself ecstatic for what was now in store for him on this three day stay at a cabin, alone, with Magdalena, the virgin. It was every guys dream.

“No way you’ve been there for six hours and...nothing?” Tyler Brown said on the other line.

“Yeah,” Tyler sighed scratching his head. He decided to go for a walk outside by the lake, while Magdalena stayed inside.

“What is she doing right now?”

“I dunno, I’m outside”

“Have you tried everything?”

“I can’t try ‘everything’, she knows me. I’ve slept with how many of her friends..”

“Well shit,”

“I don’t even want to anymore,”

“Why!?”

“Somethings changed,”

“Are you catching feelings?”

“No, I don’t think she’s the type to...you know..”

“Every girl is the ‘type’ to. I bet you she’s a freak,”

“Uh...no,” Tyler chuckled. He turned to face the cabin and thought about who was inside. Magdalena. He just found out she was a virgin, and at the time he was going to do whatever he could to sleep with her, but then she started to talk about how seriously she took it, which scared him away. He didn’t want to take advantage of his friend like that. All of her friends from BU that he had slept with resented him solely because the sex meant nothing, and Magdalena was one hundred percent aware of that fact. But the thing is:

She never used him for his money, sex, or his fame. She was a real friend. Not just some booty call. She listened to him when he spoke and he loved that she recognized the entire worth of him, not just what he does. Thinking about their friendship was oddly a huge turn off for him. If he was going to have sex with Magdalena, it would have to mean something- to the both of them. Something more than just sex, and it would change everything between them if they did, Tyler knew that and that’s what scared him the most.

“What gives dude?”

“She’s my friend, I can’t do that,”

“Alright, let me know when you’re pussy comes in full force so I know when to stop talking to you,”

“Okay asshole,” Tyler [Seguin] laughed. “I think supper’s ready, I’ll text you later, love ya Browny”

“Hahah okay,” Brown laughed and hung up, ending the call.

Tyler looked down at his palm where his phone was and decided he needed to shut the world off, this trip was for him and Magdalena, nothing and noone else. He shut his phone off completely and pushed his lips to the side as he watched the lake glimmer in the darkness and remain still; everything around him was still, he could watch the world spin around slowly and it really put things into perspective for him. This past year for Tyler had been his best one yet in his nineteen years of living. He was playing for an NHL team which was something that he was dreaming about his entire life, he was a Stanley Cup champion, there were women all over him, and he was making bank; there was nothing in the world that could knock him down from this high he had, nothing at all. It was all so surreal to him- never in a million years would he have imagined his life here, like this.

Tyler walked back into the cabin and was greeted with the smell of smoked salmon, his favorite. He was a little surprised that Magdalena decided to challenge making a salmon, seeing that she wasn’t the greatest cook and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were usually her go to.

* * *
“Oh my God! Tyler hold the paddle down,” Magdalena laughed as she and Tyler’s kayaks had collided making it hard for them to maneuver around one another. Tyler struggled to turn his kayak back around so that he would be next to Magdalena and laughed as Magdalena tried to help him. Magdalena pulled on the side of his kayak so that hers was right next to his own, both facing forwards.

“Just follow my lead dummy,” She teased, and instantly after the front of Tyler’s kayak hit the side of hers once more. Magdalena whipped her head back at him and tried to hit him with her paddle, which caused her kayak to tip over and she fell into the ice cold lake. Tyler snickered and Magdalena came up from the opposite side of Tyler and pulled him into the water with her.

“HOLY SHIT! It’s cold,” Tyler shouted. Magdalena giggled as she whipped her lustrous blonde hair, splashing water onto Tyler’s face.Tyler laughed as he put Magdalena in a headlock and pushed her underwater, but her life jacket prevented her from actually going under. Tyler, not wearing a life jacket went under the water instead and watched as her flawless tanned legs moved under the water, and for a split second Tyler’s heart stopped. He swam back up to the top to get a breath and stayed there for a while, looking around he took a deep breath as his eyes shifted up to examine the unreal mountains that were in front of him. Tyler turned to face Magdalena as she started to push her kayak back on to the gravel, she then finally got on the ground and removed her life jacket, revealing her tight wet glistening body, that caused a twinge in his balls. He wiped his face and ran his hand through his hair and started to swim to his own kayak, bringing back to the gravel, all while his gaze never left Magdalena. Tyler was so smitten by her, he just didn’t know it.

* * *
“I just don’t want my first time to be a mistake, sex means a lot to me..”

The words that Magdalena had said to Tyler just the other night echoed in his brain as dirty thoughts about her began to pan in his mind. He clenched his jaw fighting the thoughts and heard a small groan come from underneath him.

“Sorry,” Tyler said as he released his grip from Magdalena’s chest. Magdalena moved up and sat up away from Tyler, awakening from the nap they had taken; they had fallen asleep in eachothers arms again.

“What’s on your mind?” Magdalena groaned as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes.

“What makes you think there’s something on my mind?” Tyler laughed nervously.

“I could hear you breathing like crazy, like you had a nightmare or something,” Magdalena laughed.

“I wasn’t having a nightmare..”

“Then what was it? You almost broke one of my ribs Ty,”

Tyler watched Magdalena as she checked under her shirt for a mark. He let out a sigh and looked down bashfully; ashamed that he was sexualizing his relationship with Magdalena. Magdalena’s head rose up and their eyes met, Tyler held his gaze and Magdalena rolled her eyes and gave him an impatient look, waiting for a response.

“Tyler?” Magdalena snapped her fingers in his face and lightly patted his face.

“Shit, sorry,” Tyler muttered.

“What gives?” Magdalena sat back and turned her head sideways, pouting. Tyler shifted uncomfortably, and shrugged, unsure of how to explain himself. Magdalena sat back on the other end of the couch across from Tyler and stretched her legs over his.

What was on his mind?

The small living room was lit by the deep orange and yellow flames sparking in the fireplace that was just over a meter away from the couch. The room was warm and smelled like burning wood, and spicy cinnamon. Outside you could hear the trees swishing left to right as the wind whistled by. It was dark and the moon was full and shining extra bright tonight, it was an alluring sight. All of the small details of the cabin made everything extremely intense and intimate.

Magdalena and Tyler stared at each other until Tyler smiled in awe causing Magdalena to blush and fiddle with her fingers, looking away from him; embarrassed that he had acknowledged her gaze. Magdalena could never stare dead on at Tyler for a long time, especially when his hazel-brown eyes were staring right back, burning through her. Butterflies erupted from deep inside of her once he smiled. At first it was a nice warm feeling but the sensation began to move up her throat and it felt like she was getting heartburn, which was ironic because that’s what Tyler did to her- burn her heart.

“Tyler, have you ever thought about what your life’s going to be like in ten years?” Magdalena sighed, still looking at her hands.

“Not really, no.” Tyler shook his head no. “Why do you ask?”

“Come on...what do you think you’re life’s going to be like in ten years? You’ve never thought about it?”

“Not really,” Tyler chuckled. Magdalena snapped her head up and rolled her eyes at him. “I guess I have thought about where I’ll be and stuff, like family maybe, I dunno” Tyler shrugged awkwardly.

“What about hockey? You’ll still be playing?”

“Of course!”

“See, you’ve got it all figured out! I-”

“Meg, I don’t have it all figured out, it’s hard in the NHL, I could get traded tomorrow for all I know, that would mean bye bye Boston. I just kind of have to go with it, yeah sure I’m good financially but…” Tyler paused and Magdalena noticed the change in his appearance. She shifted closer, trying to comfort him. “I’m totally lost out there. Everyone on the team seems so certain of everything and they’re so...so settled. I’m not. You know that. They’re all married, have kids and stuff, and I’m here, single, alone and unsure of everything. I mean, what if I end up alone forever.. The future scares me,”

“It’s a jungle out there,” Magdalena chucked. “But I’m scared too,” She nodded, placing a hand on his thigh. “The whole modelling thing and school, I don’t know where I’m going at all. I love modelling but I don’t know how far I can get with it. I’m not 6’3, I don’t have this bodacious body, but I love it. And then school! I’ve gotten so many student loans and tuition is so high, I think I’ll still be paying off everything even after ten years! At the same time, I’ve lost interest in all my classes and I might just drop out, but I’m scared I’ll regret it ”

Tyler looked at her and smiled at her. “I’m glad we’re on the same boat Meg,”

Magdalena bit her lip as an idea popped up in her mind. “Tyler…” She hesitated. “Promise me something,” Tyler nodded. “If it ever gets too wild out there...if there’s ever a time where either of us just can’t take the world anymore, like we need to run away when life just get's too much, we’re there for eachother, no matter what.” Magdalena smiled, overflowing with the hope that Tyler agrees.

Tyler blinked in shock. He stayed quiet for a while and felt Magdalena’s delicate hands wrap around his hands. He squeezed them both and smiled when he looked at Magdalena and took in the ridiculous face she was making at him, in anticipation. She looked like a puppy waiting for their treat, or for their owner to throw the ball again. What she was asking from him made him rethink how his future could turn out.

What was the worst that could happen if he always had someone like her by his side?

“No matter what,” Tyler smiled as he held up a large pinky for Magdalena to wrap her own around.

“You promise?” She muttered.

“...I promise.”

Tyler Seguin and Magdalena Machovec were yet to truly experience the world to its fullest extent, they had no way of knowing of the storm that was coming for them.
