Teach Me How to Dougie

One

I ran out the door of my apartment building, making sure I had my keys and ID so I wouldn't get locked out, again. I had already had my one class of the day and had decided to be productive with my time and head to the gym. I had thrown on a pair of Nike shorts, a Bruins shirt, and my sneakers and had thrown my hair up in a messy bun in an attempt to look semi-cute while I got my sweat on. The sun was shining and for an autumn day it was pretty warm, so I decided to walk to the gym instead of taking the bus. A few more minutes of exercise couldn't hurt, I guess, I thought, making my way across the street and down the road to the gym.

The street was bustling with students, running to and from class. I saw a few familiar faces and did that stupid "sup" nod or waved as they walked by. Walking through the city was always pretty entertaining, so my walk went by quickly. I had just crossed the street and left the busiest part of campus. I still had about ten minutes until I reached the gym, but this part of campus was much quieter and I wouldn't have as many obstacles to avoid or awkward interactions with classmates.

I was taking in the sights on my walk, when I noticed a man stopped in front of one of the maps stationed on the edge of the sidewalk. He looked very confused and kept switching his gaze from his phone to the map. I felt bad and decided to be a good samaritan and help him out.

"Excuse me, do you need some help?"

The man turned to me, a frazzled look on his face and quietly said, "Oh, yeah, that would be great."

Maybe it was the sun shining in my eyes or the stress of the school week, but my brain wasn't quite piecing together what was happening as quickly as it should have. All I knew is that this man looked very familiar. I tried to think about where I had seen him before, and then realized that I still hadn't responded to his acceptance of my help.

"Oh, um, where are you trying to go?"

"I'm trying to find the hockey arena, actually. I think it's somewhere around here but I can't figure it out." He looked kind of embarrassed as he ran his fingers through his orange-brown hair and gave me a nervous half-smile.

Whoa, this guy is good looking. He had beautiful eyes and, even in his confused and lost state, looked very put together. He was wearing a dark gray suit and a light blue shirt with a simple tie. He was clearly going to an important meeting, but I still couldn't place where I had seen him before. It would come to me eventually, I guess.

"Oh, the hockey arena is right this way. I'm actually headed in that direction now, so I could show you the way."

His eyes lit up as he said, "That would be great! Thank you so much."

We began walking towards the hockey arena as I silently thanked myself for deciding to walk to the gym. An opportunity for a conversation with a handsome stranger was more than welcome.

"So, if you don't mind me asking, why are you headed to the arena?"

"Oh, I'm having a meeting with Coach Smith actually."

Coach Smith was the coach for our school's Men's Hockey team. We were D1 and the team was really good, so he was a pretty popular guy. I was a huge fan of the team and had gone to almost every game last season. I was looking forward to doing the same this year.

"That's cool! He's a nice guy. I ran into him after a game once and we talked for a little bit. Well, actually, he just said hello but, still, he seemed nice." I cursed myself for rambling but, my male friend seemed unfazed by my awkwardness.

"Are you a, uh, big hockey fan?", he asked, gesturing to the spoked B on my shirt.

It was at that moment I realized who this handsome man I had been helping was.

It was none other than #27 on the Boston Bruins.

Dougie Hamilton.

Notes

I'm sorry if this sucks. I'm honestly just messing around with an idea I've had in my mind for a while.
