Teach Me How to Dougie
Nineteen
My phone rang, as I waited for Dougie to answer my Facetime call. The B's had just wrapped up their third game of the road trip and would be home in five days. They had won all three games so far, and Dougie had been playing amazingly. He had four assists and some great hits, but no goals yet. He finally picked up. I saw his face fill the screen and could see that he was already back in his hotel room. The guys usually went out after most games, just to grab some drinks and celebrate. I'd be lying if the idea of Dougie in a club didn't make me nervous but I just told myself to not think about it.
"Hey there, winner."
Dougie smiled and laughed, and I saw Brad Marchand push his way into the frame. He threw up one finger and shouted.
"WOOO BABY DOUGIE'S ON FIRE!"
I could tell he had already had a few drinks, which didn't really surprise me. Marchy usually went pretty hard. Dougie pushed him away answered me.
"Thanks babe. How are you guys?"
Holly and I had watched the game, of course. We may have had a little to drink, since it was a Friday and we wanted to celebrate the successful road trip. I giggled as Holly yelled "Hi Dougie!" She was headed to take a shower, so I was alone with Dougie. Well, besides the group of players in his room.
"We're great! Just having a good time." I laughed again just as Dougie's phone was ripped out of his hands. Reilly and Pasta showed up.
"Hey babe! How you doin?"
Pasta laughed at Reilly's comment, and I noticed Spoons in the background as well.
"Hey, Smitty! Remember to only give him juice and soda! He's still a kid."
Reilly laughed at that, raising his eyebrows.
"Yeah, last time I checked you were still a kid, too. Doesn't seem to have stopped you from anything."
I rolled my eyes. "Give me back to Dougie!"
Reilly looked to his left and held the phone out.
"Quick, say hi to your favorite!"
Tuukka looked at the screen and winked, waving. I hadn't met him more than a few times and, honestly, was still a little star struck by him. Between that and my tipsy state, I couldn't do anything but giggle and wave back. The screen whipped around again, finally returning to Dougie. He walked into the bathroom, leaning against the door.
"So, you sure you're all good?"
I nodded, biting my lip. Alcohol made me a little flirtier than normal. I let the sleeve of my tank top fall off my shoulder, revealing part of my lacy bra. Dougie rubbed the back of his neck, inhaling slowly. I played with the strap on the other side, starting to slip it down but stopping just short of exposing my whole bra. Dougie looked disappointed.
"Hey, score me a goal and maybe I won't stop next time."
Dougie laughed and leaned his head against the door closing his eyes.
"Ugh, fine. You're too much sometimes."
I smiled and Dougie looked back at the screen.
"I miss you. I should probably get going, though. We're gonna hit up a bar."
The smile faded from my face and I nodded. I couldn't help but feel anxious and clearly wasn't doing a good job of hiding it.
"Hey, look at me. You know I'd never do anything stupid. I would never, ever risk losing you. Trust me."
I rolled my eyes. "It's not you I don't trust..." I mumbled.
"Chlo, I can't prevent girls from approaching me. But trust me, I don't want anyone but you."
I sighed, already knowing that what he said was true. I felt the exact same way about him, of course.
"Have fun. I love you! Make sure Pasta stays out of trouble. Reilly seemed to be encouraging him earlier."
"I always do! Love you."
He hung up the call and I pulled the blanket over my head, feeling sleepy from the game and from the vodka flowing through me. My phone buzzed and I opened the picture Dougie had sent me. It was a pic of Pasta on Reilly's back as they walked down the hall of the hotel, cheering.
*Dougie: Kids these days...*
I laughed and put my phone down, ready to fall asleep.
