Teach Me How to Dougie
Three
I ran up the stairs of my apartment building, digging through my bag for my keys as I went. By the time I reached my floor, I was nearly out of breath. I leaned against the doorframe for a moment and then opened the door. My roommate, Holly, was standing in the kitchen making some tea and listening to the radio. She looked up from what she was doing and started laughing.
"Tough day?", she asked, looking at me and trying to figure out why I looked so out of it.
I threw my bag on the ground and walked over to where Holly stood. Grabbing her arm, I pulled her over to the tiny couch we had and sat down next to her, ready to share the news.
"Um, is everything okay? You look kinda crazy and to be honest you're freaking me out."
I realized I hadn't spoken a word to her since walking into the apartment. I had just walked in and dragged her over to the couch.
"Holly. You will never guess what just happened."
She looked at me suspiciously. "You..... Hmmm... Did you- no..." Holly wasn't the best at guessing games so I cut her off before she hurt herself.
I launched into the story of how I had encountered someone lost on the way to the gym and had helped them out. Holly was nodding and trying to piece together why this was strange or exciting.
"Holly. It was Dougie Hamilton."
Her jaw dropped to the ground and her eyes grew big.
"NO WAY. OMG You're lying no this is April Fool's day all over again."
I calmed her down and assured her I wasn't lying. Why would I lie about something like this?!
"Anyway, after I showed him where the arena was, he asked for my name and asked if I wanted to go to tonight's game-"
"DID YOU SAY YES?!" Holly barely let me finish my sentence before shouting at me, grabbing my arm and leaning in, anxiously awaiting my response.
I rolled my eyes. "Nope. Turned him down. You know how much I hate going to hockey games. ESPECIALLY when I'm invited by the players themselves."
Holly slapped me on the arm. "Wow, rude. Okay, so you said yes. OMG Are you excited?!"
"Of course I'm excited! But you should be, too. Because he's leaving two tickets so you're coming with me!"
Holly was bouncing up and down in her seat. "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!"
I laughed. "Don't thank me. Thank Dougie", I said with a smirk and a shrug of my shoulders. "Now let's get dressed! The game starts in three hours!"
