The Hockey Boys & Me

Chapter 10

Hockey season was in full swing, and I was loving every second of it!

The boys were doing well. There hadn’t been any major injuries, thank god. They have a game tomorrow, against the Sabres, and are looking to kick some ass.

My phone's shrill ringtone interrupted my thoughts.

"Alli." Georgie croaked out. "I-I need you, need you right now."

"Shit! Georgie are you okay!?" I asked, very concerned.

"Yeah, just hurry, please." She sniffed loudly. I hurried into my car and over to her apartment as best as I could, with midday traffic.

"Georgie!" She leaned against her kitchen counter, with her head in her hands. I wrapped my arms around her into a hug.

"What happened?" I asked her softly.

"I missed my period." She choked out. "And he's going to break up with me." She shook her head vigorously. "I know it."

"Georgie...he would never." I took a deep breath. "Do you even know for sure?" A few stray tears made their way down her cheeks, and then she nodded her head.

"Hey Georgie," She looked at me through wide eyes. "I'm going to be an aunt." I squealed and hugged her. A small smile broke out on her face.

"What are you doing here, brat?" Gavin walked, his hockey bag in hand.

"Just being a good friend." I answered him vaguely.

"Hey Alli!" Luke and Giroux said once they walked in.

"Oh no! You two need to leave! I'll explain later!" All I received in return from them were two crazy looks, but they followed my orders.

"Georgie I'll-" I started to walk out the door but she interrupted me.

"-No! You're staying!" Gavin's face was filled with bewilderment.

"Can someone please explain what's going on?" He asked slowly.

"Gavin, I-I need to tell you something. It's um, very important, like very, very important." She started pacing, which was even making me nervous!

"Are you pregnant?" He asked with a devious smile.

Georgie and I were trying to pick our chins up off the floor.

"Oh please. I'm more observant than either of you know. You didn't buy tampons last week when we went to the store, and I kept buying condoms." I grimaced. I really didn't like hearing about their sex life. "Same thing happened last month. You've been here for like, two and a half months, so I'm guessing that the little boy in your stomach right now is about that far along." I think Georgie was too shocked to move.

"It's okay, Georgie, I'm not going anywhere, except maybe house hunting." Thank god my brother was saying all of the right things!

Gavin hugged Georgie, pulling her 5'6" frame against him. She cried into his shirt, but I knew they were happy tears.

"I love you Georgie. Don't forget it." He closed his eyes, like he was savoring the moment.

"Hey-Oh, should I leave?" Brayden was in the kitchen now. I didn't even hear him walk in!

"Shh. If you're quiet, you'll be able to hear my brother being the sweetest person in the world." I felt comparable to a narrator from the Animal Planet Channel, observing two elephants. I leaned on Brayden's shoulder, feeling very happy for my brother and best friend. "I'll tell you what happened later." I whispered.

"House hunting? Have you found anything?" Georgie asked once she had calmed down.

"Yes. One that's in the same neighborhood as my parents, outdoor pool and five bedrooms, almost enough for our own hockey team." Georgie giggled.

"Uncle Brayden, eh?" Bray whispered in my ear. I nodded, with a bright smile. "And aunt Alli? I like it."

"Let's get out of here." I whispered back. He nodded.

"I'll meet you at your house." He gave me a quick kiss and went out the door. I turned around, back to the two love birds.

Gavin gave me a small smile.
"But I fucking swear, if you come home pregnant, I will beat his ass!" Gavin pointed at me. Georgie laughed at her foolish boyfriend.

"Chill out Gav. I'm pretty sure at this rate, they're saving themselves for their fifteenth anniversary." Georgie joked. I crossed my arms, and narrowed my eyes at the two.

"I don't wanna hear about their sex life!" Gavin yelled.

"Well I don't like hearing about yours either!" I yelled back.

"Shut up you two." Georgie scolded us both.

Gavin wrapped me in a big hug, and ruffled my hair. "I love you Alli, and he makes you happy I guess."

"Thanks Gav. I'm going back to the house with Brayden. I suggest knocking." I smirked at him.

"I'm not going home." Gavin said happily. "But you have a shift at the bakery tomorrow." He smirked.

"Fine, see you two tomorrow!"

****

"Georgie's really pregnant?" Brayden asked, seeming surprised.

"Yeah. I mean, I guess I wasn't all that surprised." I shrugged. "They were on and off before her dad died, and I could tell when she came back that nothing was holding them back from each other." Brayden nodded. He was quiet tonight, especially as we ate pizza in the living room, watching the nightly news.

"Alli, my ex-girlfriend texted me and said that she's coming to Philly next week." He blurted it out, like he was expelling something putrid from his mouth.

"That's why you've been so quiet?" I asked him calmly. He nodded slowly.

"Look, I didn't even respond to her text. I don't know why she's coming, but she's not staying with me or Luke." I closed my eyes, with a small smile. When I reopened them, Brayden looked so nervous that he was ready to jump out of his skin!

"Bray, don't worry about it. There's a reason she's your ex-girlfriend." I put my hand on his cheek, giving him a slow kiss.

"You're all mine, Alli." He whispered back. Bray leaned in to kiss me, long and sweet. He was now hovering above me while I laid back on the couch. The meaningful expression on his face had been replaced with one of less emotion, more statute.

"Bray I don't care if you talk to her or you want to take her out to lunch. I know you guys dated for a long time. Luke already told me." His eyes narrowed. "Because I know at the end of the day you and I will still be us. I have a lot of trust in you."

"Let me make this clear." He smirked. "I'd prefer not to be in the same five-mile-radius of that bitch. The last time I saw her, I ignored her, and I really couldn't care less about her. She's heartless and will probably try to terrorize you and I while she's here." Well, that changes things! "I want you and only you." He whispered huskily in my ear.

That's all it took for me to wrap my arms and legs around his torso and look toward the direction of the stairs. Brayden took my hint immediately.

I'd been with other guys, and he'd been with other girls, but those people didn't matter, not now, not today, not tomorrow.

****

"Jesus! It's about time." Georgie and Ella yelled at me. Ella was friend of mine that lived in upstate NY. She was visiting for the week. Mostly her visits included us going out for Starbucks every morning, lunch in the afternoon, every home hockey game, and then her hooking up with Rinny afterwards.

"God you two. This is why I didn't mention it until now!" I hid my face in my hands.

"Well I thought you two were saving each other for marriage for fucks sake!" Ella said dramatically.

"Nah. But please tell me he wrapped up! We don't need Gavin maiming him before the game!" Georgie exclaimed. I closed my eyes tightly, hoping it would block them out. It didn't, at all.

"You." A girl that looked to be around our age approached our table and pointed in my face. "You're his new slut!"

"And you must be his old one." I answered dryly. Brayden will love to hear this!

"He won't stick around! I'm the only girl he ever loved! I can't wait until he dumps your sorry ass!" She was nearly screaming through Red Lobster. Ella always insists we come here, and now I'm regretting listening to her.

"Excuse me miss, but I'm going to have to ask you to leave Miss Cosey and her group alone, or you'll need to leave." The manager of the restaurant said to Kelsey, who was undoubtedly going to be escorted out. I will admit, because Philly is a huge hockey city, I'm not exactly a stranger. This is also a regular place of ours, so the staff are familiar with us.

"Whatever." Kelsey stomped off. I simply turned to Georgie and Ella, and bursted into a fit of laughter.

"Wait till Bray gets wind of this. He'll be pissed!" I giggled with the girls. No sooner did I have it out of my mouth, and he had texted me, just asking what's up. I couldn't contain my laughter long enough to even text, so I told him I would tell him later.

The boys were playing in NY tonight, against the Islanders. So the girls and I had a played a night glued to the television, watching the game.

****

"GO CLAUDE GO!" I was screaming at the top of my lungs as the puck was passed to Claude. Georgie was yelling along with me, but Ella looked at us, occasionally adding in a remark against us, but I knew she was silently cheering for Rinny.

"Gavin's ass looks perfect with all that padding." Georgie smirked. Ella and I rolled her eyes.

As the second period came to a close, the boys were down 1-0, but were exceeding the Ranger's shots by 10! Henrik Lundqvist is not only a top goalie, but a sex god! Ella made some throaty noise that was apparently her recognizing his amazing looks whenever they panned the camera to show his face.

At the end of the second, it remained 1-0. The boys were determined to score, and score they did! Four minutes into the third, Voracek shot it the upper right of the net, right passed Henrik's head. Jake's goal got them going for sure! Coburn got in a good shot, and Matt Read ended the game with a shot with three minutes left in the third.

Since the game was in New York, the boys would be home in a couple hours, and a celebration would likely ensue at Hartsy’s or Briere’s. Caelan, Cameron and Carson were with their mother this week, so the likelihood of Danny becoming a host was increased.

“So El,” Georgie began with a smirk. “When are you going to move down here? Rinny’s been asking.” Ella glared at her and smacked my arm once my giggle bubbled over to a laugh.

“Never. I’m trying to get into UPitt, actually…” She looked nervous as she admitted this to us, but Georgie squealed out of excitement.
“YES!” I threw both of my arms up in the air. “I can finally set you up with Sidney!” Georgie looked at me, disapproval flashed through her eyes, but she chuckled nonetheless. Ella’s cheeks flushed, and she averted her gaze back to the television, still showing highlights of the game.

‘Danny’s hosting tonight’ Brayden’s text read.

“We’re heading to Danny’s tonight.” I announced to the other two.

“Oh good. Scott had some sleezebags hanging around his place last time.” Georgie said with an exaggerated eye roll.

****

“Great game tonight, Bray.” My arms snaked around his neck as we swayed to the slow song that was blasting through the stereo.

“Thanks.” He smiled, but his eyes were filled with thought.

“Bray! Your old lay is here!” Luke shouted from across the room. Brayden’s eyes grew and he stopped moving.

“Luke you’re fucking drunk, let’s go!” Claude dragged the big oof out the door by his ear.

“The fuck did she get here?” Brayden said softly. “Do you want to leave?”

“Only if you’re taking me to get frozen yogurt.” I tried to make light of the situation.

“I knew there was a reason I liked you!”
