New Beginnings

Over It

Tyler's POV
I storm off to my apartment next door, and drop onto the couch. Marshall and Cash hop on next to me, and I turn on the TV. I find the NHL network, and see that the Red Wings and Blues are playing, and I bet that's what they're watching that game, too, because it's one of the only good games on tonight, and Kirsten is over there. I think about the fight, I know Jamie is only trying to help, but Kirsten is a stubborn bitch, and there's nothing he can do about it. I decide that since Kirsten doesn't care about my feelings, so I don't care about hers. I tell myself I really do need to get over the Bishop thing, and get over her. Even though I know that she's no good for me, I can't will myself to stay away from her. I decide to go over and see if anyone is over at Jamie's.

I knock, and Jamie opens the door. "Hey man, I'm really sorry I walked out earlier. I just got really pissed off and didn't want to deal with her." I apologize.

"It's fine. I get it. I don't understand why you guys were screaming that much, and half of what you guys were referencing. I know there's something you aren't telling me. But that's okay. I get it, neither of you are going to tell me what's going on. Just try to not get in any screaming matches in front of other people." He warns me.

"Fine. I'll try. And there's nothing more. Seriously. But I won't scream at her for being a bitch. That's just how she is." I say.

"Dude, don't be a dick. She can be a bitch, but she is also really nice too. She knows it's not her job to tell you what you want to hear. You once told me you of tired of people just saying things to make you feel better. You know that I don't do that, and she doesn't do that either. Stop bitching." He says, doing just what he says. Not bullshitting me. "And just so you know where I stand on this, you are wrong. She can sleep with whoever the fuck she wants. You don't have any claim on her. And yeah, so what she slept with someone you know? You don't have a right to care." He says seriously.

"You know what? She is a bitch! Just because she doesn't bullshit me doesn't mean she's not. I want to have a claim!" I say loudly. "And yeah she can sleep with whoever. She's a slut."

"Fuck Tyler! Why can you take home girls on a nightly basis, and she can't sleep with one guy! Look, if you're going to still be a dick, then go back to your apartment." He says.

"Whatever Jamie." I say, and think things through for a second. "I hate to say it, but you're right. I don't have any claim on her. But I'll tell you one thing. I want to have a claim on her. I want to do more than fuck her. I want a relationship. And how often do you think that happens? Because the answer is never. I have never wanted more than a one night stand." I say being honest with my best friend.

"I don't know what to tell you. She knows you. She knows how you can be. She doesn't want another guy to cheat on her. Can't you understand that?" Jamie says.

"I do understand that! But I just want a chance." I say.

"Well, I don't think that's going to happen. So yeah. I'm going to sleep. Night Segs." He says dismissing me.

"Night." I say, and leave.

When I wake up, it's around 8:00. I get ready to go to the morning skate at 9:30. I get to the rink, and instead of Kirsten taking care of my back, she asks Dave to. Which I'm okay with. I don't even have to say a word to her all morning.

After the morning skate, I go home. I don't do much. I hang out with some of the guys, and when it's time for the game, we head over there. We get ready, and I'm feeling alright about the Kirsten situation. We warm up, and get our pregame speech from coach. We go out onto the ice, and I'm facing Sidney Crosby in the faceoff circle. I win it. We are off, and on my third shift, I bury the puck in the net. I celebrate, and hug and slap my teammates. We end the first period, and go back to the locker room. Everyone is excited that we are ahead.

We skate back out onto the ice for the second period, and right at the beginning of the period, I see Crosby skating up the ice with the puck. I hustle over and hit him, just a normal hit. He dives. No doubt he dives. He dove, and takes longer than he needs to get up. I skate over by the bench since the whistle blew. Jamie went over to the ref, and is talking to him. Cosby skates over by our bench too. I hear someone behind me shouting at him. "This isn't swimming Crosby! Quit diving you little bitch!" I see that it's Kirsten. Oh my god Kirsten just chirped Sidney Crosby! Oh my god that's awesome. I look back at the bench and see everyone is laughing and patting her on the back.

Crosby responds with, "Wow, looks like your hot trainer can chirp better than the actual hockey players can!"

"I don't know about better, but she sure as hell can hold her own." Kevin said. "Oh, and by the way, if she can tell you're diving, then the ref should too. Little bitch."

"Fuck off. Try and keep your hits clean from now on." He says to me. The ref skates over and tells me to get in the box.

"Are you fucking kidding me? He fucking dove!" I say.

"Two minutes for charging." He says, and I go over to the box. By the time I'm out, Pittsburgh has scored. Great. By the time the game is over, we win, 2-1. It was close. We didn't score until the last 5 minutes of the game. We are all super excited about the win.

After we shower, and everybody is taken care of, Kirsten pulls me aside. "Tyler. I'm sorry I slept with Ben, but I thought I made it clear there was no commitment. I get that you like me. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to give you a chance. My last two boyfriends have cheated on me. I'm not going to go through that again." She says, and we are walking down a hallway with supply closets in it.

"I know. I'm really sorry that I made such a big deal about it. I know. Can I make it up to you?" I say, and slide my arm around her.

"Maybe you could figure out something..." She says laughing at my attempt to be smooth. I lean down and kiss her, and we back into one of the cleaning supply closets. I'm kissing her neck, and she has her fingers in my hair, when one of the janitors walks in. I immediately stand up, and he walks away.

"Wait!" I say and run after him. I catch up, "Wait. Please don't tell anyone." I beg him.

"Why shouldn't I? I think you're supposed to inform the management of any relationships with co-workers. There's a reason for that." He says. "I'm going to tell someone. Sorry." He says, and walks away.

I go back to Kirsten. "He's going to tell management. Don't worry. I'll protect you. We can tell them that we haven't hooked up before, and that this was going to be a casual thing. They have a paper that people in a relationship have to sign. Usually they don't make us do it for casual things. But we have to tell them that we never hooked up. Say that I convinced you to hook up with me tonight, but it never happened. I'll take the fall for it." I say.

"I can't let you do that. You'll get in trouble. I don't need you to do that." She says.

"Well, I wont get into as much trouble. C'mon. It'll be fine. If we tell them that we were just going to hook up, they may have us sign a consent form, so you can't press rape charges if I piss you off. It's fine. Should we go talk to them now, or wait until they call us in tomorrow?" I ask.

"We should go now. It'll look better for us. You know what I mean?" She says.

"Yeah. Let's go up there." I say, and lead her up to the office. I knock, and Jim tells us to come in. When we walk in, we see that the janitor is still there, telling him what he saw. He even told Jim about me asking him not to tell. Great. "I'm sorry." I immediately say.

"Okay Michael, you can go now. Thank you for telling me." Jim says, dismissing Michael, the janitor. "Look. I get it Tyler. You knew her before she got the job. She's an attractive young lady, and you're an attractive young man. Why wouldn't you fill out a relationship form?" He asks.

"Because I thought that was for real relationships. We haven't even hooked up yet, but if we did, it was just going to be a casual thing." I explain.

"Well then you need a consent form." He says, "This is a conflict of interest, because you work together."

Kirsten speaks up, "I'll sign whatever form I need to. I'm really sorry about this situation."

"Well, there may be repercussions." Jim says.

"Such as?" I say.

"I'm going to need to talk to the other management staff, and see what they would like to do. You guys both need to sign this form, and then we'll see what happens." He says, and hands us a form. I sign on the top, and she does on the bottom. Clearly we are dismissed, so we walk out of the office, and down to the parking lot.
