Talking Bodies

Chapter 12

Figuring out who to drop was a lot harder than I thought it would be, so I decided to avoid both of them for a while. So far it’s been three days, and I haven’t hear from either of them, which made it a little easily to not think about them, but that is how I found myself in one of the biggest bars in the city, the same bar that I met Jamie at, but I was trying not to think about. It wasn’t as crowded as I hoped it would be but it was also a Wednesday night so I didn’t expect it to be.
I placed the empty glass on the bar counter just about to give up on tonight’s expedition when the warmth of a body filled the space to my right.
“Looks like you could use another drink,” a young man offered as he pointed to the empty glass in front of me.
I smirked to myself as I turned to the man. “Pretty observant aren’t we.” I commented as I studied his face, from his childish lop sided smile to his curly dark hair that feel in his eyes.
“Only when I see something I like.” He winked, his blue eyes twinkling. “So what can I get you?”
“Why don’t you surprise me?”
“I can do that,” he winked at me before he leaned over the bar getting the attention of the small brunette bartender.
She nodded, a smile plastered to her lips as she hurried over. “Need a refill Sugar?” She asked, her southern accent thick.
“Yes,” he beams at her and I don’t hear what he says after as I studied the way his eyes crinkled as he smiled and the way his beard covered his face, much like Tyler’s. I shook the thought from my head before I could give it anymore though.
“You okay,” he nudged my shoulder with his arm as the bartender returned with our drinks.
“Yea,” I blushed realizing that I was still staring at him. “So what’d you get me?” I changed the subject as I studied the 8oz cup that was place in front of me.
He smiled, amused by my subject change. “You’ll just have to drink it and find out.”
I didn’t say anything as I raised the glass to my lips. The white liquid slid down my throat easily. With a grin I replaced the glass on the counter. “You really know how to pick a drink,” I complemented.
“I know,” he grinned, “but thank you.”
I rolled my eyes with a smile before I pick my drink back up. Once that one was finished he ordered another, and another, and before I knew it we were in his car driving back to his place where he assured me dessert was waiting.

Knock, Knock, Knock.
I groaned burying my face deeper into my pillow as my bedroom door slowly squeaked open.
“Beth, I brought you breakfast.” I recognized Veronica soft voice, to chirpy for this time of time day.
“Or you just came to see how last night went?” I yawn into my pillow.
“No, maybe.” She squealed as she sat on the bed next to me. Unlike Karen, Veronica liked all the dirty details. In college we would even share stories about the guys we hooked up with, sometimes even recommending one or two of them. The only difference was that this time I was the only one telling the stories.
“You know Veronica you’re lucky I didn’t bring somebody home with me last night.” I told her as I pushed myself onto my elbows to look at her.
“Whatever,” she rolled her eyes as she sat on the bed next to me. “We all know you don’t bring boys back here.”
“Yea,” I sighed and rolled onto my back. “I guess you’re right.”
“So you did go out last night then?” Veronica asked as she opened up the styrofoam container in front of her.
“Yea,” I took a deep breath. “I did.”
“You did,” she smiled as she took out a piece of bacon and held it over my face. “So how’d it go?”
“It was alright.” I told her as I pushed myself up against the head board and took the piece of bacon she offered me.
Her face fell as she turned to look at me. “So I guess you didn’t go home with anyone?”
“No, I did.” I assured her. “It’s just...”
“It’s just it wasn’t Jamie or Tyler.” She finished for me with a sigh as she handed me a slice of toast. She knew what it was like when you got use to someone and then they weren’t there anymore.
“Yea,” I exhaled as I took the piece of toast from her hand.
She was quite for a second as she chewed on her own food, but then she asked, “Was he at least good?”
“Yea,” I shrugged, “I mean he wasn’t bad with the physical stuff…”
“But?” She looked at me eyes wide.
“But he was a talker.”
“Oh,” she rolled her eyes because if there was one thing that we had in common it was no talking during sex. It was in and out with as little communication as possible. Except I broke that rule, first with Jamie, then with Tyler and we see where that got me.
“Yea, and I was okay with it for a little while, but then he wanted me to call him daddy…”
“No?” She chuckled as she laid down the piece of bacon she had in her hand.
“Yes,” I shook my head as I laughed along with her. “I just don’t understand why guys think that is so hot.” I cringed. “I mean I never knew my dad but that doesn’t mean I want to pretend I’m having sex with him.”
“I hear you, I mean I knew my dad my whole life, even called him daddy when I was younger. Not really the person I want to think about in the middle of an organism.” She winced and I buried my head in my hands as I laughed. “So I guess you didn’t give him your number?”
I shook my head as I removed my hands from my face and caught my breath. “That I did not.”
She laughed as she picked up another piece of bacon. “So have you decided which one you’re going to drop yet?”
“Nope,” I shook my head as I grabbed another piece of bacon from the tray in front of her. “Every time I think about dropping one of them I always end up thinking of a million reasons why I don’t want to.”
“Well I guess I couldn’t blame you,” she beamed, “if Tyler’s half as good as he looks…”
“He is defiantly as good as he looks.” I assured her as I thought about his dark hair, those cholate brown eyes, and those strong arms… “Defiantly hot, and he is defiantly as good as he looks.” I beamed at her as I picked up another piece of bacon.

I think Beth should go with Tyler. I mean Jamie is great and all but Beth and Tyler have feelings for each for other and I think they make a cuter couple.
