Wildest Dreams
Underage
As Meredith was locking the door to her office and heading out for the day to enjoy her time off, she glanced at the gym floor to see two familiar faces that she hadn’t seen in a while. Derek Holland and Nick Martinez of the Texas Rangers. She decided to take a detour to the floor instead of heading straight out the front door like she was planning to do and harass the two pitchers for a moment.
The player’s backs were towards the door and Meredith walked up behind them.
Meredith: I’m sorry, this floor is for athletes only.
The two guys turned around when they heard Meredith’s familiar voice.
Derek: You’re right, so I’m sorry but you’ll have to leave.
Meredith: Hey, I train just as much as you so you can take that back.
Nick: What do you have to train for?
Meredith: Life.
Nick: Are you still using training wheels or can you take them off?
Meredith: I took them off, but I’m pretty sure you still need them.
Nick: Seriously though, what do you train for? You’re not an athlete.
Meredith: Just because I’m technically not an athlete anymore, does not mean that I don’t train. Gotta stay in shape so I can whip y’all.
Derek: In what?
Meredith: Anything I want. I’ve taken up kickboxing; I could beat y’all easy.
Nick: You need to practice your trash talking; it’s terrible.
Meredith: And Derek needs to stop getting hurt. Are you actually going to play this season?
Derek: That’s the plan.
Nick: Ready to have you back out there.
Meredith: That’s good, considering that that’s your job and what you get paid millions to do.
Derek: We get paid no matter what.
Meredith: So are you saying you enjoy being hurt and not doing anything, but still getting paid for it.
Derek: I would never say that, I love baseball too much to be that person.
Meredith: Mkay… What are you guys doing out here in Flower Mound?
Nick: Helping Jimmy. He said there were a lot of pitchers out here and he needed more bodies to help get through lessons faster.
Meredith: So do I have to change prices for lessons now that I have two MLB pitchers teaching them?
Nick: No, but I don’t get paid as much as Derek so a little payment for me would be nice.
Meredith: I’m not paying you. I didn’t even know you were coming.
Nick: I knew I was coming.
Meredith: No shit Sherlock. I’m glad you knew that.
Nick: Seriously, do I get paid though?
Meredith: No, you’re doing this because you want to appear to be a good person and help out young baseball players. Its good PR, the Rangers organization will eat it up. Take some pictures.
Nick: I am a good person!
Derek: Are you sure about that?
Nick: Yes!
Meredith: Well before you leave I need pictures for social media. This is the perfect way to bring in new clients.
Derek: Always business with you.
Meredith: Yeah right, only when I’m here. Have I ever used our friendship to get more clients or more interest sparked in Change Up?
Derek: Yes…
Meredith: Besides right now?
Derek: No…
Meredith: See, you can’t come here and not expect me to put it on social media.
Nick: It’s good press for the Rangers too, Derek.
Meredith: Don’t mock me.
Nick: I’m not.
Derek: Hey, how are you and Tanner? I haven’t seen you in a while!
Meredith: Ha, yeah, no, that’s not a thing anymore.
Derek: Oh, I’m sorry!
Meredith: I’m not.
Nick: Uh oh, what happened?
Meredith: Just the loyal, faithful girlfriend and lying, dirty, douche bag, cheating boyfriend. That old story, but I’m over it. I’ve moved on.
Nick: Are you sure about that? You seem a little angry.
Meredith: Yes. It’s hard to be angry and upset with someone that you don’t respect.
Derek: Well, I never liked him to be honest.
Meredith: Whatever, you two got a long too well.
Nick: I never met him but I don’t think I would like him.
Derek: It was all fake because I knew you liked him.
Meredith: It’s not good to lie Derek. And it’s okay that you got along with him, that’s normal, and a good thing.
Derek: So you wouldn’t be upset if I called and invited him out tonight?
Meredith: I mean I might feel a little betrayed, but hey, you do you dude.
Derek: I would never do that to you.
Meredith: Oh I know.
Nick: Speaking of tonight, have you gone to that new place in Dallas, 62?
Meredith: No I haven’t.
Nick: We’re meeting some people there tonight; do you wanna come with us?
Meredith: I think you have to be 21 to get in and I’m still 20.
Derek: I always forget you’re that young. We can get you in though. That’s not an issue.
Meredith: How exactly is that not an issue and how exactly are you going to get me in?
Derek: My friend owns it and we have a table there for tonight.
Meredith: That still doesn’t mean that I can get in.
Derek: Yes it does, I just walk straight in through a different door on the side and you walk in with me.
Meredith: I think that’s illegal.
Derek: No because the owner will be letting you in and he won’t even know that you’re underage.
Nick: You look like you’re 21, you’ll be fine.
Meredith: I don’t want to get in trouble though.
Derek: You won’t get in trouble. I took a couple guys with me last week who weren’t 21 yet from the minor team and we had no issues. I brought like 6 with me, so if I can get that many guys in, I can get you in.
Meredith: You promise I’m not going to get kicked out or in trouble?
Derek: Yes.
Nick: So does that mean you’ll come out with us tonight?
Meredith: I think I can manage that.
Nick: Good!
Derek: We can go get dinner before and then head over to 62.
Meredith: That works for me, I will meet you at the restaurant then.
Nick: We can just meet up at my apartment and then go.
Meredith: You need a DD don’t you?
Nick: If you’re offering.
Meredith: Fine, that can be your pay for helping out Jimmy, which you probably need to get back to.
Derek: We’ll see you tonight.
Derek and Nick went back to helping the pitching specialist and Meredith finally left to go back to her apartment. Lauren wasn’t there and Meredith assumed she was at work and wouldn’t be able to see her before she left for the night so she sent Lauren a text saying that she was going out tonight but would be home, just late.
It was later that night that Jamie went over to Tyler’s house for their night out and let himself in.
Jamie: Seguin! Where are you?
Tyler: I’m in my room!
Jamie: Hurry up! The guys are waiting!
Tyler: I’m fixing my hair!
Jamie hesitantly decided to walk into Tyler’s room, hoping that he would be able to get him out the door sooner.
Jamie: Your hair is fine, come on.
Tyler: No it’s not. You were the one that wanted me to go out tonight because you think Meredith has changed me so let me get my hair perfect.
Jamie: You’re such a diva.
Tyler: You should really put some more thought into your appearance. The ladies pay attention to it.
Jamie: The right girl won’t care how much thought I put into my appearance.
Tyler: You always sound like you want to settle down, why?
Jamie: Why would I not?
Tyler: We’re young hockey players and you’re the captain and you could have any girl you want, why settle down now?
Jamie: That’s fucking hilarious coming from the guy that fell head over heels for a girl that doesn’t want him.
Tyler: I did not fall heads over heels, I didn’t even fall for her you little fucker.
Jamie: The whole reason for going out tonight is so you can get over her and back to your old self.
Tyler: I thought you said you liked her.
Jamie: I do, but she friend zoned your ass so its time to move on.
Tyler: You’ve done a completely 180 since this morning.
Jamie: That was when I thought you got some last night, but now I see you haven’t.
Tyler: You don’t know anything.
Jamie: I know you didn’t get it in and jerked off before I got here.
Tyler: Why the fuck do I associate with you?
Jamie: I’m your captain and you do what I say.
Tyler: You are fucking delusional if you think that’s true.
Jamie: I’m taking you off the starting line if you don’t.
Tyler: That’s coach’s call, not yours.
Jamie: Who do you think helps him make those decisions…
Tyler: You’re the king of empty threats.
Jamie: Didn’t I prove I wasn’t when I called Meredith the other day at lunch?
Tyler didn’t respond.
Jamie: What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue?
Tyler: I don’t condone this childish behavior from you right now.
Jamie: I’m being the child? You’re the one that has a high school crush on a girl that doesn’t have one on you.
Tyler: Oh she likes me she just won’t admit it.
Jamie: So are you just going to sit around and wait for her to admit it then? Instead of being young and getting any girl you want? Oh wait that doesn’t work because the girl you want, doesn’t want you and friend zoned your fucking ass.
Tyler: I’m not going to wait for her.
Jamie: Really?
Tyler: Really…. She told me not to.
Jamie: You are un-fucking-believable.
Tyler: Fuck you.
Jamie: That’s what you want to do to Meredith.
Tyler: I don’t understand you. One minute you’re all for us and the other minute you’re reminding me that nothing is happening.
Jamie: I’m all for you two, I just know nothing is happening right now so you shouldn’t sit around and wait for something to happen.
Tyler: Does my hair look okay?
Jamie: Your hair is beautiful Seggy.
Tyler: Are you ready to go?
Jamie: I’ve been waiting on you this entire time.
Tyler: Lets get out of here then.
The two of them headed out of Tyler’s room and to leave. Jamie headed towards the front door and Tyler went towards the garage.
Jamie: Where are you going?
Tyler: I’m driving myself tonight.
Jamie: So I didn’t even have to come over here?
Tyler: Yeah, I needed to know that my hair looked okay.
Jamie: Mother fucking waste of time.
Tyler: Being with me is never a waste of time.
Jamie: You’re full of shit.
Meredith, Nick, and Derek went to dinner and then headed towards 62. Derek led the way in the side door and Meredith got in with no problem. They made their way through the club and headed to the VIP section where they had a table reserved. Most of the group of friends they were meeting was already there and Derek and Nick started introducing Meredith to them.
The group mingled together and were having a good time. Jamie and Tyler finally got to the club where they were supposed to meet their friends and headed over to the table. They reached the table and started saying hi to everyone there.
Jamie: Segs had to fix his hair, that’s why we’re late.
Colton: He worries about his hair too much.
Tyler: Hey, my hair is important.
Colton: There are starving kids in Africa, your hair is not that important.
Tyler: Don’t play that card; my hair is important when we go out.
Colton: There are still starving and dying kids in Africa and you think your hair is important.
Tyler: Then why aren’t you in Africa feeding kids instead of playing hockey?
Colton: Because I love hockey.
Tyler: So you don’t love the kids in Africa?
Colton: I do, I send money to charities to help feed them.
Tyler: You could still go and feed them yourself if they are that important to you.
Colton: I’m going during offseason.
Tyler: Well aren’t you just a go-getter.
Colton: I care about others, not my hair.
Tyler: I care about others; I just also care about my hair.
Jamie: Okay boys, that’s enough. You’re both pretty and care about starving kids.
Meredith was enjoying her time out with her friends and meeting new people and was talking to Derek.
Meredith: What made your friend name this 62?
Derek: I was wondering the same thing when he told me. Turns out it was the year his mom was born.
Meredith: That’s sweet of him.
Derek: Its kind of his tribute to her I guess, she died last year from breast cancer.
Meredith: That’s so sad!
Derek: He was in the middle of putting it all together when she passed; he took it really hard.
Meredith: I would too. That’s not fun or easy to deal with. I couldn’t imagine losing my mom like that.
Derek: It sucks. But he had this to focus on and take his mind away from it.
Derek looked off across the section and spotted two more of his friends that he hadn’t said hi to yet.
Derek: On a happier note though, come meet a few more people.
Meredith followed Derek to his friends whose backs were towards them. Derek grabbed their shoulders and they turned around.
Meredith: What are you doing here?
Tyler: I was going to ask you the same, what are you doing here?
Meredith: I came out with Derek and Nick… Hey Jamie, how are you?
Jamie: I’m good! What about you?
Derek: So I see you guys already know each other.
Tyler: Yeah, but hey, long time no see buddy!
Jamie: Haven’t seen you out at the games lately.
Derek: Yeah sorry, I went home for the holidays and just got back in town. I’m missing going to the games!
Jamie: I guess I can forgive you.
Derek: How do you guys all know each other?
Jamie: You wanna explain that one Tyler?
Tyler: Not much to tell, I met Meredith a couple of months ago.
Meredith: And he hasn’t left me alone ever since.
Tyler: You haven’t left me alone either.
Jamie: I saw your car at his house this morning.
Derek: You’re right you are over Tanner.
Jamie: But not under Tyler.
Meredith: Jamie!
Jamie: Sorry, that was out of line.
Meredith: That was actually kind of funny so it’s okay.
Derek: I see, there’s more than meets the eye with you two.
Tyler: There’s really not.
Meredith: We’re friends.
Derek: You spent the night at his house.
Meredith: I was drunk I had to.
Tyler: So you were drunk!
Meredith: No, I meant I had been drinking and Tyler wouldn’t let me drive. I tried to leave.
Tyler: You were drunk.
Meredith: Nope, that was you. I could still function and my words were not slurred.
Tyler: I wasn’t slurring my words either and I was not drunk.
Meredith: You sang Jonas Brothers you were drunk.
Derek: All the secrets are coming out from last night!
Tyler: There aren’t any secrets from last night, but speaking of drinking I’m going to go get a drink. You guys want anything?
Meredith: I’m good.
Jamie: Get me a scotch.
Derek: I’ll take a beer.
Tyler went towards the bar and they all wandered off in different directions to talk to people. A while later Tyler found Meredith sitting on one of the couches that was in the VIP section and sat next to her.
Tyler: I was not expecting to see you here tonight.
Meredith: I could say the same thing.
Tyler: I had no idea you knew Derek.
Meredith: Yeah, I’ve known him for a few years, my Dad used to work for the Rangers.
Tyler: Why didn’t you tell me?
Meredith: Never came up, it’s all hockey with you.
Tyler: It is not all hockey with me.
Meredith: I guess it’s not, but that’s what you care about.
Tyler: Because it’s my job and I love it.
Meredith: You do love it. I will give you that.
Tyler: What did your dad do for the Rangers?
Meredith: He worked on the training staff for a while before he opened Change Up. He still works for them part time now.
Tyler: How does your dad do everything?
Meredith: He just does. I learned from him that hard work pays off and you should always keep yourself busy. Staying busy keeps you out of trouble. Maybe you should try it.
Tyler: I keep myself busy enough and I stay out of trouble… now.
Meredith: If you were busy you wouldn’t have time to bug me.
Tyler: I don’t bug you because you love me.
Meredith: I tolerate you, remember?
Meredith gave Tyler a look like she was putting him in his place.
Tyler: I’m going to crack you, you know that right?
Meredith: You’ve been saying that for two months now and it still hasn’t happened.
Tyler: Two months and I’m still around. I think I’m on the right track.
Meredith: At the rate this is going, it’s going to take you a few years.
Tyler: I bet by the end of the season you’ll love hanging out with me.
Meredith: That’s not giving yourself much time; I think I’ll still tolerate you by then.
Tyler: Wanna bet?
Meredith: Wanna lose?
Tyler: I haven’t lost yet.
Meredith: You would lose this one.
Tyler: You don’t know that.
Meredith: Actually I do. I hold all the cards on this bet so to be the good and nice person that I am; I will not take you up on that bet. It just wouldn’t be fair for me to control it all.
Tyler: You’re just saying that because you know you would lose again.
Meredith: No because this conversation is going from tolerating you, to not liking you again.
Tyler: I’m getting to you.
Meredith: No you’re not.
Tyler: Lets go dance.
Meredith: No.
Tyler: Every time you say that you end up dancing.
Meredith: That sounds like I see you too much and maybe that should change.
Tyler: Why?
Meredith: You know we were on tumblr this morning?
Tyler: I’m always on tumblr; there are blogs dedicated to me.
Meredith: I was in a picture with you on tumblr that my sister’s friend sent to her who sent to me asking who you were and why I was on tumblr.
Tyler: So?
Meredith: People take pictures of you when you’re out and now I’m in the pictures and I don’t want that. I can’t be seen with you two nights in a row in pictures, people are going to get the wrong idea?
Tyler: What? That we’re a thing and you didn’t friend zone me. I’m okay with that.
Meredith: I’m not.
Tyler: Why do you hate me?
Meredith: I don’t hate you, I tolerate you.
Tyler: You’re killing me.
Meredith: I know, its kinda fun. I enjoy it.
Tyler: I’m sure you do.
Meredith smirked at Tyler and she looked out to the dance floor.
Meredith: So, which girl are you taking home and what’s your pickup line for them?
Tyler: Excuse me?
Meredith: What? It’s nothing to be ashamed of. I’m sure you’ve been eyeing the floor all night.
Tyler: I… uh…
Meredith: It’s okay; I don’t care if you take someone home. What about the blonde in the corner over there?
Tyler: I’m not much for blondes.
Tyler winked at Meredith and she rolled her eyes.
Tyler: Blondes are for Jamie.
Meredith: Fine, what about the red head? She’s cute.
Tyler: Too drunk.
Meredith: I thought that’s how you liked them.
Tyler: I don’t need them throwing up in bed or my car.
Meredith: The brunette in the corner? She needs some attention, she looks uncomfortable.
Tyler: If she’s uncomfortable now she’s not going home with me, or if she does, she’s going to be terrible.
Meredith: Fine, what about skunk hair at the bar? You get a blonde and brunette all in one person.
Tyler: I could go for it.
Meredith: What terrible line are you going to use on this poor girl?
Tyler: I’m thinking maybe asking for her to go on a walk.
Meredith: Maybe you’ll have better luck this time.
Tyler: Didn’t really work on you.
Meredith: I thought you weren’t trying to hook up with me that night?
Meredith gave Tyler a playful look and he returned one. Colton started walking over to them on the couch.
Tyler: I can probably just walk up to her and ask if she wants to go to my place.
Meredith: It’s that easy?
Tyler: Yeah, have you seen me?
Meredith: Unfortunately.
Tyler: You liked what you saw this morning.
Meredith: That’s totally why I asked you to put a shirt on.
Colton: What conversation did I just walk into?
Meredith: One where I’m trying to help Tyler pick who he is taking home tonight.
Colton: You two aren’t going home together?
Tyler: No.
Meredith: Tyler is going home with skunk hair and I have to drive Nick and Derek home.
Tyler: Speaking of, time to make my exit for the night. See you guys later.
Tyler walked off towards the girl at the bar and Meredith laughed.
Colton: You’re okay with this?
Meredith: Yeah, why would I not be? We’re friends, that’s what friends do.
Colton: You guys have an interesting relationship.
Meredith: Not really.
Colton: Yes really. You guys act like you’re dating and then this happens?
Meredith: We act like we’re dating?
Colton: Yes. You two flirt all night and day and hang out all the time.
Meredith: I don’t think we hang out that much.
Colton: Lets just say that you guys probably see each other more than I see my girlfriend who only lives ten minutes away from me.
Meredith: I’m sure you see your girlfriend more than Tyler and I see each other.
Colton: Sometimes I don’t know about that. She works a lot and I’m on the road, it gets difficult.
Meredith: I can see that, but I think you just have to have that balance between the two and you’ll be okay. Facetime is almost like being together.
Colton politely chuckled and smiled at Meredith. Tyler had left the bar within 30 seconds of walking up to skunk hair and Derek came up to Meredith with Nick.
Derek: I think someone has had a little too much tonight. You ready to go?
Meredith: Yeah, time to get him to bed.
Derek: You have the keys?
Meredith: Yep. All right Nick, lets get you home and in bed.
Nick: But I don’t wanna go home.
Nick’s words were long and drawn out.
Derek: It’s bedtime.
Nick: But I don’t wanna leave until the club closes.
Meredith: Its closing right now Nick. Say bye to everyone.
Colton: Bye Nick.
Nick: Bye Colter.
Colton: Good luck Meredith.
Meredith: Thanks.
