The Cabin by the Lake

The days went by faster with my new routine. Zac hadn’t met with me to help me, but I didn’t need him. The all girl’s gym helped me, and I felt inspired by all the women there. Andrea started to become a pretty good friend; we had similar up-bringing and it was nice to talk to someone who understood. Sarah was a hot mess with her wedding plans, and Casey was pretty much living at Amanda’s apartment. With the season starting, I haven’t seen much of my best friends…but Ryan is a daily thing. We had gone on a date a day pretty much; dinner, lunch, morning walks…He’s stayed at my apartment a few days and I’ve stayed at his. It was Sunday night, Ryan and I had been talking about the Halloween party, which was an awkward conversation because the idea of a “couple’s costume” sounded weird to us, who are not a couple. “I think I’m going as wonder woman.” I said to Ryan, as Hocus Pocus played on the background. He was cooking us dinner (frozen pizza; he doesn’t have too many culinary skills). He opened the oven and took the pizza out, “What should I be?” I shrugged as I grabbed a piece, “A stinky hockey player? Oh…wait…” He put his plate down, “you like this stinky hockey player!” he chased me onto the couch and tickled me. “No! Never!” He went back to grab his pizza and sat next to me on the couch. “Maybe I’ll be the superman to your wonder woman?” I smiled, “I like the sound of that.”

I tried not to think about Zac and I’s moment in the locker room. I tried, but failed. I wanted to talk to him about it, I wanted to say it meant nothing…He and I have talked about my defensive strategies, and about him and Steph, but he swore everything was good with them. He asked about Ryan and I and I kept saying, “We’re just dating…nothing serious.” We were both being vague on our relationship status.

Sarah’s costume was spider girl and Eric’s costume was spider man. They met at mine and Casey’s apartment before the party. Ryan was the last to arrive, and we had a few drinks before headed to the Halloween party. Casey and Amanda made some fun Halloween cocktails (and they were strong), before they left for a dinner Amanda had planned weeks ago. We walked to the location, since it was close by, laughing and having a great time. Yes, we were all pretty buzzed but it was nice to be with friends and not having to work. We checked our coats and entered the hall. The room was beautifully decorated. Halloween décor everywhere, the tables all had their own little themes; ghosts, goblins, vampires, and so many more. Everyone was in their costumes with a mix of silly, sexy, nerdy, and cool. We got to our table, it was witch themed. There were little broom sticks, hats, and “spells” which consisted of fun cocktails and desserts to make at home. Ryan went to see some of the team. “I’ll get drinks!” I said as I headed to the bar. I ordered 4 drinks from the all Halloween inspired menu. “Hey sexy.” I heard as my butt was pitched. I turned around to see Zac, in a batman costume. “Oh…Emily…you’re not Steph…” I shook my head. “Last time I checked I’m still me.” He did a nervous laugh, “I guess you guys have the same costume…” I saw Stephanie walking towards Zac and I with the same Wonder Woman costume as me. “Great.” I said under my breath. She came over with her arms wide open, “Emily?! Oh my god! We match! We are too cute! Zac, take our picture!” She handed him her phone and she put her arm around me, and mine around her. “This is too cute! There’s Karaoke tonight! Brad’s idea, we have to do a song together!” I rolled my eyes, of course Marshy wanted karaoke. “Sure thing!” I said to Stephanie as she grabbed Zac and walked away.

I brought the drinks to the table where Ryan and Eric were talking with each other. I leaned over to Sarah, “Stephanie and I are in the same costume, I know this because Zac thought I was her and squeezed my ass.” She laughed at me as I handed her drink to her. I felt Ryan’s arm around me, “There’s Karaoke.” He whispered to me, “I don’t think I’ll be doing any songs to get your attention tonight.” He laughed and kissed my cheek. “It’s like a tradition for us!” he said and I rolled my eyes and gave him a light kiss.

Music was blasting, people were dancing, and food was being eaten (I think by mainly Sarah and I.) Eric was making friends with a few of the bruins, including Ryan and Zac. Stephanie took pictures of Sarah and I and was overly bubbly and nice, but I still hated her. She also reeked of vodka. I don’t really know why I hated her. Seeing Zac didn’t make my gut wrench and my heart break. I felt nothing. Ryan on the other hand…seeing him made my heart flutter and my knees get weak. Especially when he gives me his half smile. At around 11, Sarah and Eric left, they both had work the next day. I begged them to stay so I wasn’t stuck with Stephanie. But they left, mostly because Sarah was too drunk to walk and was looking a bit green. My options were be with Ryan and talk to Zac or be with Stephanie and drink all night. I choose to drink. I went up to Stephanie who was at the bar with a few of the other ice girls and girlfriends and she smiled as I walked towards her, “Emily you are so pretty.” She slurred to me, I smiled, “Thank, you too Steph.” She wrapped her arm around my neck and took a sip of her drink, then kissed my cheek. The bartender handed me my drink and I took a big gulp. She dragged me all around, meeting people, taking shots, taking pictures, getting drinks…it was exhausting but I had to admit, I was having a blast. The more I drank, the more I liked her. We were sitting at a table looking through the karaoke book. “Can’t wait for you to sing lady!” Marshy said as he walked by, handing me a drink with a wink. I shook my head at him and Stephanie gasped, “Oh my god! Ems, look! We have to do this Demi Lovato song! It would be so sexy!” I laughed, “How?” she shrugged, “well it’s pretty much about kissing, so we just kiss each other.” Now, I don’t know if it was the booze, or what…but I agreed to this plan of hers.

Demi Lovato’s Cool for the summer started to come through the speakers. Steph and I stood on the stage with each other, taking turns are every verse to sing. (At this point, all the children that were there have left.) We played with each other’s hair, and pretty much sang the song to each other. I could see Zac and Ryan watching us, smiling. Everyone was dancing and enjoying our little performance. We walked down the stage and towards our guys as the song went slow. Shh, don’t tell your mother. Got my mind on your body and your body on my mine. We faced each other Got a taste for the cherry I just need to take a bite. Our lips touched and there was a little bit of tongue. I think Zac and Ryan both exploded. We finished our song and everyone clapped and cheered at us; everyone was blasted. We started to walk towards our guys and she grabbed me hand, “Now, you kiss mine and I kiss yours!” I looked at her confused, “What?” But she was already headed towards Ryan, and kissing him. If I was sober, I wouldn’t do it. If I was sober I would have pulled her off my man and told her to screw off. If I was sober I wouldn’t have walked right up to Zac, and I kissed him. But I wasn’t sober, and I did exactly that. At first it was just one light kiss…but it started an old fire within me…and him. I thought I was over him. I thought my feeling left, but as I kissed him I couldn’t help but melt into his body. As I went to step away, he grabbed my waist and kissed me hard again. My heart and head soared into the clouds. His tongue danced over mine. We parted and I saw the same look in his eyes as our one drunken night at the cabin, and when the towel fell off of me so many days ago…Lust.
