James POV

We had the day off today so I offered to have a guy’s day at my apartment. It had been a couple months since I first met Cameron and I still thought about her every time I passed floor number 6 in our building. We were really good friends and the guys were always chirping at me that we hadn’t slept together yet.

We had just finished eating our lunch and were starting to watch Iron Man 2 when I heard a knock at the door. I got up to answer the door, not expecting the person on the other side. I saw her tear stained face first as she looked into my eyes and broke into sobs.

“What the- Cameron? What’s wrong?”

I took her into my arms whispering, “It’s ok… come on.”

I took her hand gently in mine and led her through the apartment towards the bedroom. I sat down on my bed and pulled her down onto my lap dismissing how it felt so good to have her in my arms.

“Tell me what’s wrong.” I asked.

Little did I know what I was getting myself into.

I wanted to punch someone or something. After telling me her story I put Cameron under the covers and let her sleep. She said she would only go to sleep if I promised to sleep next to her. That’s where I found myself now, under the covers with Cameron curled up next to me with my fists clenched around her. I think she could tell I was unhappy because her hands found mine and put them together, squished so they were inside of hers. I brought our hands up to my mouth and kissed her knuckles.

My phone buzzed with a text from Geno.

To James From Geno
Everything good with Cam?

To Geno From James
Yeah. She’s just upset.

To James From Geno
Uh oh. I go get ice cream.

To Geno From James
U don’t have to do that.

To James From Geno
Yes I do. She friend.

I then heard the front door shut knowing that our text “argument” was over. I smiled and fell asleep until Cam or my hunger woke me up.

Cam POV

I woke up and looked at clock seeing it was around 4ish and I slept for a good 3 hours. I heard the TV in the other room also noting James wasn’t in bed anymore. I got out of bed and padded into the living room seeing James and Geno sitting on the couch watch TSN.

“Is that all you guys watch? Sports?”

I watched them jump at the sound of my voice and giggled knowing I scared them.

“God, Cam. You scared us. And to answer your question, yes.” James answered.

“I get you ice cream.” said Geno. “James say you were upset,” I could feel my face fall. “He no tell us why though.”

I smiled and went over to give him a kiss on the cheek noting his blush. “Thank you, Geno.”

“No problem.”

I went over to the refrigerator seeing that he had bought me a quart of Rocky Road. I laughed and said, “Geno! I didn’t need this much ice cream!”

“I didn’t know how sad you were.” he shouted back.

I chuckled at his attempt but took out the quart anyway. I grabbed a spoon and headed back out into the living room squeezing between the two massive hockey players. I put my head on James’ shoulder and opened the ice cream taking a hefty spoonful.

“Do you have to eat that in here? It’s not in our diet.”

I looked around the room and responded, “I don’t see Crosby anywhere. And it’s your day off. I won’t tell and I bet Geno won’t either.”

“Uh….” James groaned.

I made sure to show my pleasure on the next spoonful as James grabbed a pillow from his couch and shoved it into his face as I collapsed into a fit of giggles.

The rest of the night was spent hanging out, just the three of us. I had to say it was the best afternoon I had had in my entire life.

James’ POV

Geno had just left so Cam decided that she should head out. I walked her to the door secretly wishing she wouldn’t leave. She turned around and wrapped her arms around me as I buried my head into the crook of her neck.

I heard her whisper, “Thank you… for everything.”

We pulled away, but I realized I couldn’t let her leave. Not yet. I put my hand on the side of her face and leaned in. She didn’t lean way so I kissed her.
