Cameron POV

He was kissing me and I was kissing him back. He knew about my past and didn’t run. I felt safe in his vicinity and I was scared. Not of him but of what could happen. I pushed the bad thoughts out of my mind, replacing them with thoughts of all the good things that could happen.

Suddenly James pulled away, “Sorry. That wasn’t how I wanted that to happen.”

He looked embarrassed. “How did you want it to happen?” I asked.

He blushed and replied, “I wanted to do it right. Take you on a date, walk you to your door, kiss your cheek, and not really kiss you until at least the second date. I wanted to do it like a gentleman. Like Crosby would do.”

I made a face of disgust as I grabbed his face gently and brought his lips to mine for a second time before I pulled away whispering, “I don’t want Crosby.” I let myself out of his apartment making my way to the stairwell as I heard his apartment door shut behind me.

James POV

‘Holy Crap. She kissed me back. God, she’s a good kisser. If I do this, I need to do it right.’
I grabbed my keys locking the door behind me and sprinted down the stairs and out of the building. I ran to the closest flower shop and asked the young women at the desk if she had any light pink roses. She told me she did and asked how many I needed. I told her I only needed one to which she responded with a smirk. She rung up the total and handed me my receipt after scribling her number on it. She handed me the rose and told me to come back soon. ‘As if.’

I walked back to the apartment and climbed the stairs two at time not believing what I was about to do. I knocked on her apartment door and put the rose behind my back, waiting until she answered the door to reveal the flower.

She opened the door and smiled as she saw me, “Hello, James.”

“Hi, Cam.”

“To what do I owe the pleasure?”

I dropped to on knee and pulled the rose out from behind me and asked, “Will you go on a date with me?”

"Yes.” she replied.

I stood up and handed the rose to her, kissed her cheek, and said, “I’ll pick you up at seven.”

I confidently waltzed to the stairwell knowing that I finally got the chance to show the world I could care aout someone. And I desperately wanted that someone to be Cameron.

Cameron POV

I tore apart my closet not knowing what to wear. I didn’t even know where we were going! I decided to text him.

To James From Cameron
What should I wear?

'Men.'

I searched through my closet to find my black dress. I immediately found it and threw it on finding my black heels to go with it. I ran my fingers through my hair and didn’t put any makeup on. I liked James a lot, but I wasn’t gunna cake on makeup for him. I looked at the clock, seeing I had another hour until James was coming and parked myself on the couch. I internally cheered that I had enough time to watch another episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

James POV

I was really excited. You’re probably wondering why James the Real Deal Neal is nervous. That he does this all the time. But I don’t. I never ask a girl out. Not after wht happened two years ago. But Cameron is different. I want- no I need her in my life. Which is why I made reservations for one of the most romantic restaurants in Pittsburgh, Eleven. I’ve never been there but Flower once told me that if I ever found the right girl, I should take her there. So that’s what I was doing.

Promptly at seven I knocked on her door and heard a faint, “One sec.” She opened the door and I was speechless. She was gorgeous. She had on a black dress with a cutout around the stomach area and had on black heels that made her the same height as me. I could tell she didn’t have any makeup on and smiled that she didn’t think she had to impress me. And she definitely didn't.

I brought myself back to the present and asked, “Ready?”

“Yeah just let me grab my clutch.”

“Ok.”

I stepped into the apartment and was greeted by Bacardi who wagged her tail and begged to be pet. I knelt down and ran my hands over her face.

“Looks like someone like you.” I jumped at the sound of her voice.

“Yeah. Well I like her too. Ready to go?”

“Yup.”

She kissed Bacardi’s head and walked over to the door stepping out as I stepped behind her and closed the door, waiting while she locked it. We rode down to the parking garage in silence with the faint sound of elevator music. As we stepped out of the elevator , I led her to my Ferrari and opened the door for her.

“Thank you.”

“Of course. I told you, if I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna do it right.”

I turned the car on and blushed as I realized that I haven’t changed the radio station in two months. I looked out of the corner of my eye to see she was smiling. I turned out onto the busy streets of Pittsburgh as she sang along to the radio. I looked at the dial to see the song name and saw it was a song called Love Me Like You Mean It by Kelsea Ballerini. I listened to the lyrics and promised myself I wouldn’t let Cameron down. Ever. That I would be the one she could count on. The one she could tell everything. The one she would fall in love with.
