Room for Rent
The Phone Call
In an immaculate house not too far away, the telephone rang. Lindy Ruff reached over from his recliner where he was watching film from the Stars most recent game to answer it.
"Hello?"
Lauren was a little taken aback by the gruff voice on the other end of the phone but decided to continue on. She wanted...no she needed this apartment.
"Yes. Hi. My name is Lauren and I was hoping to speak with Gaye."
"Just a minute." Lindy put down the phone and shouted for Gaye to pick up the phone.
Lauren couldn't help but laugh a little at the situation. She was sure that was something her parents would've done.
"Hello?"
"Hi my name is Lauren. Is this Gaye?"
"Yes it is. How can I help you Miss Lauren?"
"Well, I saw your advertisement on the bulletin board at UT Southwestern and I was very interested in what you have listed."
Gaye was incredibly excited. She would love to have another lady in the house especially when the Stars were around. She would've liked to have offered Lauren the apartment right there and then on the phone but she knew Lindy would want to meet the young coed that could be living in their home.
"Wonderful! Well, I would love to have you come on by the house and take a look around. That way you can see the apartment before making any final decisions and we can get to know one another a little bit. How does tomorrow sound?"
Lauren pulled out her planner to look up her schedule before answering.
"Well, I would be free after 7pm but I would be coming straight from clinicals so I will most likely be in my scrubs and coat. I'm not sure that is best for a first impression."
"Oh honey! You needn't be so formal. You'll come to find that Lindy, the boys, and I are really quite casual. We'll see you tomorrow night at 7:30pm."
Lauren received the address from Gaye, said her goodbyes, and hung up the phone. She was really hoping that Gaye was as nice in person as she was on the phone. This apartment could be her saving grace. While Lauren drove back to her apartment, she couldn't help but ponder over one of the last things Gaye had said.
"Boys. She had said the boys. But weren't they empty nesters? Weird. Maybe they have dogs or something that they refer to like children."
Whatever the case might be Lauren was both nervous and excited at the possibilities of moving.
Notes
I swear the Stars will come more into play in further chapters. Just gotta lay down some backstory first.
Can't wait for another update! :)
