Chapter 23

March 2015

After two weeks Emily finally got the cast off of her nose. She was so excited to see what was now underneath the splint. She still had a few bruises around the eyes, but other then that she was feeling much better physically in the face. She still had a bit longer for the ribs.

"Are you sure you don't want me to come?" Jamie asked.

"No Jess is going to come with me cause we're gonna have lunch with a few of the girls. You can see my new nose when I get home." She grinned.

"She's picking you up right?" He asked nervously.

She was still taking painkillers for her ribs. But she was being good and trying to wean herself off of them.

"Yes she is. I took a painkiller four hours ago so it's not a good idea to drive."

"And I want you to start seeing the physical therapist."

"Jamie. I need physiotherapy, not physical therapy. There's a great physio in Richardson that helped me when I retired from rugby."

"You drive me nuts. I can't wait to see that thing come off. I can't take you seriously." He said with a mouthful of bacon.

"Try sneezing, or having an itchy nose with it on."

"No thank you." He laughed.

"Exactly." She laughed.

A lot had gotten easier when their parents had left to go back to Victoria and Prince Edward. Jamie and Emily mourned on their own and now they were back on track.

"What am I gonna do with you?" He smiled at her.

After a moment of thought she laughed.

"Take me out on a hot date. You haven't done that in a while." She winked.

"Really?" He cocked an eyebrow.

"Uhh yeah. The last time we went out for dinner was before Christmas. We used to eat out all the time. We didn't even do anything for Valentine's Day."

"I was in Colorado. And you hate Valentine's Day."

"That's not the point! Sorry. I'm being hormonal."

"We'll go out tomorrow. I'll take you and that new nose out for a fancy dinner."

"Good. Cause we deserve it." She winked.

"I hope you didn't have expectations for this nose, we just put it back into the centre of your face as well as making sure you are able to breathe through it. We shaved down the bump that was there to make your nose more aesthetically appealing as well." Dr. Deuber explained.

"That's all I wanted. Jamie, my partner, was getting tired of my snoring." Emily laughed.

"Well you definitely won't be snoring anymore." He laughed as well.

"Will she stop snorting while laughing? Because if she lost her snort I'll be pissed." Jess pointed out.

"I can't guarantee that. What do you say? We get that splint off?"

"Yes, please."

Sitting through the interesting feeling of having her split removed after two weeks she was excited when she felt the fresh air hit it.

"Are you ready Emily?" He asked.

"It's killing me. Give me the mirror." Emily yelled in the excitement.

Dr. Deuber gave Emily the mirror. She was excited with the results.

"I have the nose I had before I started playing rugby!" Emily said excitedly, "I feel like I'm 14 again."

"And speaking of things done when we were younger. We need to talk about the state of inside your nose."

Her past drug use. Snorting anything she could get her hands on.

"I used to snort in college. Anything I would get my hands on. Usually coke or Adderall. Pain killers towards the end of my rugby career. Coke was usually at parties, Adderall was to concentrate. It's something I've been very open about. Most of the time I was a pot smoker." She explained.

"When I went in to operate. I could tell you used to snort. But I will also mentioned it's healed up greatly."

"Thank you. It wasn't hard to get clean. Jamie was the reason."

"How's the rest of you feeling?"

"My ribs still hurt. I'm going to start going to physio. I'm still taking painkillers for them."

"Those will hurt for a couple of more weeks. But it looks like we are all set to go for today. We'll rebook for a couple of weeks for one final look at your nose." Dr. Deuber stated.

"Perfect! Thank you so much." She smiled.

"It looks so good." Jess said excitedly as she took a good look at Emily's new nose.

"I know! And now I can stop complaining to Jamie that I need a nose job."

The girls laughed and talked loudly as they left. Before they got lunch with some of the other girls they stopped so Emily could get her make up airbrushed on so the girls wouldn't see the remnants of her black eyes.

"I can't stop looking at it." Emily grinned at Jess.

"It looks so good. The girls are looking forward to seeing you."

"I feel bad that I didn't let anyone over. You and Jordie are the only ones who have seen me. I think Tyler's a little pissed I wouldn't let him over."

"You and Jamie were mourning. You were vulnerable."

"I know. I made Jamie take thank you cards to work with him one day."

"Speaking of work. Are you going back? Or are you going to be a full time housewife?" Jess asked.

"I don't think I'm gonna stay at Fossil. I'm not going to be a full time housewife though. I'll take the summer off to take care of Jamie and then figure out what to do. Maybe real estate."

***

Getting to the rink with some time to spare he did a lap to see if Emily was there yet.

He wanted to see her new nose. And he also had a new toy he wanted to show her.

"Have the girls come yet?" Jamie asked Ales.

"No, they're still out. Who's Bentley is that out there?" Ales responded.

"I'm surprised Seggy hasn't announced that to everyone yet. I just picked it up this afternoon."

"That's a sick car man. Does Em know about it yet?"

"Nope. I'm sure she'll freak out though."

It was cutting it close to game time when the girls rolled through the family lounge. Jamie had just finished his pregame work out as he spotted Emily.

She had the twinkle in her eye back and she had herself polished and put together. And her nose looked almost the same, just without the bump and symmetrical to her face.

"Jamie!" She said excitedly, walking up to him quickly and throwing her arms around his neck.

"Hey babe. I'm not used to seeing you without that splint on your face." He leaned down and gave her a kiss.

"That shouldn't be funny. But it is. Do you like it?"

"It looks good. I like that he didn't change it to much."

"It looks like my pre-rugby nose."

"You were beautiful with your old nose."

"The old nose was half way across my face that's why it got fixed." She laughed.

"Yeah yeah. Just don't change anything else."

"I'm getting my hair done tomorrow since I can dye it again as well as a much needed spray tan. Try to stop me now." She winked.

"Chubbs! Coming for some soccer?!" One of the guys yelled.

"I'll be right over!" He called back.

"I'll see you after the game. I love you. Good luck." Emily smiled up at him.

He loved that she had her smile back. They still had a long way to go as they had just lost their baby two and a half weeks ago, but it was a step in the right direction.

"I'll get a goal for you." He promised.

"If you get even an assist you'll score in bed tonight."

"Did you get the okay?" He asked excitedly.

"I did! But I'm back on Mirena though. Don't be mad." She stood on her tip toes to kiss him.

"I'm not. I'm just excited to be intimate with you again." He said quietly as he felt the soccer ball nail him in the head.

"You better go. I'll see you after the game." She gave him one last kiss before taking off to her seat in the stands.

He played phenomenally that night. Scoring a goal, getting an assist and even getting into a fight and winning. It was also the best he felt physically in a long time. He knew the fight would also have Emily all wound up by the time they got home.

"You ready to go?" He asked her, finding her in the family lounge.

"Only if you are. You sure you don't want to go out." She yawned.

"Considering you are yawning. I think we should just go home babe. It was your first day out in more then two weeks." He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, bringing her in tight.

"Okay. And my ribs hurt anyways. I just want to be close to you." She said quietly, "and I won't snore tonight."

"I'll believe that when I don't hear it." He laughed loudly.

"I'm just going to let everyone know we aren't going out."

He was curious as to how she was going to react seeing his new car. She bought toys all the time. He was pretty sure he was able to get a new car as he hadn't bought one for himself since he bought his Escalade.

It was something he's been wanting to buy for a while and then she got pregnant and his priorities changed.

"Babe where's your Escalade?" She asked as they walked into the parking lot.

"Didn't bring the Escalade."

"Where's the Range Rover? Did you park in the back 40?"

"Didn't bring the Range Rover."

"Are we taking the fucking bus home?"

"No we're not." He laughed, "the car is right here."

"You did not buy a Bentley today."

"Are you mad?"

"Not at all babe. This is a beautiful car."

Just the reaction he wanted. Walking around to the passengers side of the car he opened the door for her, giving her perfectly round ass a slight tap.

"Hey now." She laughed.

***

She couldn't be pissed at Jamie. She knew he wanted a Bentley Continental, it was his dream car. It was one of the first things he told her when they started dating.

The black on black combination also suited Jamie to a T. It was a beautiful car, and it sounded amazing. She knew that she was going to have to get under the hood in the morning to see how it ticked being the little grease monkey she was.

The insurance company was giving her $40,000 for her truck since it was written off. Jamie did not want her to get another truck but she needed it for hunting if he wanted to eat good all next winter too.

Once she was feeling better enough to drive she was going to hit the truck lots to go shopping for a new Chevy.

"You know what babe." She said as she ran her hand up his leg, squeezing his thick muscular thigh.

"Hmm?" He glanced at her.

"You know the best way to break a new car in?"

"What's that baby."

"A little bit of road head." She moved her hand from his thigh to the crotch area of his pants, feeling his bulge.

She saw him bite his lip as he hardened under her touch.

"Maybe once I get used to how this handles." He swallowed.

"Well that's how you get used to how it handles." She leaned over to kiss his neck, "your already hard."

"Because your kissing my neck and your hand is on my cock. And you look so fucking hot." He groaned, accelerating the car.

"Hmm. What would you do if I just unzipped these." She felt around for his zipper, pulling on the fly.

"Em, baby. It's happening isn't it?" He gulped as she freed him from his boxers.

"It's definitely happening." She grinned as she went down on him.

Hearing him moan turned her on so much. She couldn't wait to get home so they could really be close and intimate with each other. It had been more then 3 weeks since they last made love. She could hear the leather on the steering wheel crinkle under his hands as he tightened his grip.

"Babe. I'm close." He grunted.

"Hmm?" She moaned with his cock still in her mouth.

"We're almost home. Do you mind coming up for air?"

"Yes I do mind." She giggled as she took him back into her mouth.

"Fuck me. Babe. Seriously. Emily we're almost home. Stop or I'll bend you over the hood of this car in the garage." He pulled at her shoulder.

"Well your going to finish either way." She grinned at him as she came up.

"You know what." He looked at her dead in the eye as they sat at a particularly long red light.

"What?" She bit her lip.

"I'm gonna bend you over the hood of this car anyways. Fuck you senseless. Then we'll take a nice hot bath, get you all hot and bothered again. And then make love to you like I haven't done so before."

The passion in his eyes was so intense that when he looked away to concentrate on the road she was soaked and ready for him.

It was 3:00 in the morning by the time they finished "reconnecting". They were sweaty, extremely out of breath and he had fulfilled his promise to take her every which way.

"Babe." She breathed out as he came back to bed from letting Bailey back into the bedroom.

"Yes." His lisp had no where to hide, this is what she also loved about Jamie. His lisp that she was really the only one who got to hear it.

"How did I end up with such a hot boyfriend?" She asked as he crawled in beside her.

"I-uhh- thank my trainers." He blushed. She could still bring out the awkward nervous chubby guy again.

"The question is, how did I end up with such a hot girlfriend who puts up with my shit." He pulled her in so her head was on his firm chest.

"Because I'm more then just good looks." She looked up at him, giving him a wink.

"I love you. So much." He kissed her forehead.

"I love you too Jamie." She said softly as she played with his soft chest hair.

Waiting for him to fall asleep before sneaking out of bed she walked quietly into the bathroom to grab her painkillers and sneaking down to the kitchen and crushing one with a spoon. Her ribs her aching. Taking an old hotel room key she made it into a perfect line. It was a skill she had never lost, like riding a bike.

The high was immediate. Shaking out the dollar bill she rolled up and placing it back into their change bowl she made sure she cleaned up the residue before she got too high. Climbing back up the stairs she crawled into bed, getting comfortable just as Jamie pulled her in tight in his sleep.

She loved being in his arms, they were safe. He was safe. Her big, tough, tattooed hockey player. Off the ice he wouldn't hurt a fly, but could actually fuck shit up if needed, he was super protective of her, on the ice he was ferocious and not afraid to throw fists. He was hot headed both on and off the ice, and as stubborn as an ox.

As she came down from the extreme part of her high she made a mental note to get Jamie to hide her opioids in the morning so she could ween herself off of them and start taking regular Tylenol. Snuggling into his chest she fell into a dreamless state, waking up absolutely exhausted the next day.

***

Jamie let Emily sleep in, he felt her tossing and turning the remainder of the night. He had practice in the afternoon but he had promised to take her out on a date that evening since they hadn't gone out for one since before Christmas.

"Morning babe." Emily yawned as she came into their den.

"It's 12:00." He laughed.

"Well you kept me up till 3:00 in the morning."

"You asked for it. You were tossing and turning all night too weren't you."

"Yeah. My ribs hurt really bad after you were done with me so I took a painkiller after you went to bed." She sat down across from him.

"Your getting addicted to them."

"I know. Can you hide them so I can ween myself down to just regular Tylenol."

"Have you snorted at all?" He asked cautiously.

"Last night after you fell asleep." She deadpanned, looking him straight in the eye, "I crushed one with a spoon and snorted it like a line of coke. That's when I knew. It was because I got my splint off."

He knew he couldn't get pissed at her. It hurt that she did it, but he needed to be supportive.

"Was it worth it?"

"Not at all. That's why I want you to hide them. Don't be mad at me."

He stared at her for a few minutes, before taking a deep breathe in. He wasn't pissed.

"Jame?" She said quietly.

"I'm not pissed."

"You have every right to be."

"But I'm not. We caught this before it started."

"Fuck your amazing." She let out her breath, he didn't realize she was holding it.

"Are they still by your sink?"

"Yeah. Go hide them. I'm gonna get something to eat." She got up, rubbing her stomach, something she had been doing since she lost the baby.

"Okay. I love you." He assured her as she squeezed his shoulder walking by.

"I love you too. Hide them good."

"I will don't worry." He called after her.

Thinking for a moment of where he should hide them he thought of just flushing them. They had lots of other painkillers that weren't opioids in the house. Making his way up to their room he found the bottle of pills sitting next to her sink. Picking them up he gave them a shake thinking of where to put them.

Somewhere in the house that she didn't go unless she had too. Not the office. Not the Purple Room. Not the room next to the Purple Room that would have been the baby's nursery. Definitely not the garage. She spent more time in there then he did. Maybe in the wet bar high up in a cupboard that he could only reach. And way in the very back so she couldn't see unless she was on a chair. Emily was tall but not that tall, she only went to his shoulders.

Out of sight out of mind.

That was the Emily mantra. Proud of himself he found her sitting on the couch in the living room with Bailey laying next to her eating a bowl of cereal once he was ready to go to practice.

"What's the game plan for you today?" He asked, placing his lips to the back of her head.

"I'm gonna go get my hair done. Have lunch with Ali and JoJo, go look for a new truck. Then I'll come home and get ready for our date."

"You gonna drive?"

"Yeah I feel fine. Coffee is helping me. I know you don't want me to get another truck but if you wanna keep eating deer meat."

"You love to hunt. And I love you. I gotta go to practice. I'll see you later."

"I love you too. Have fun at practice babe."

He laughed as she leaned back to look up at him.

"I'll try but no guarantees." He dropped a quick one on her lips before heading off to Plano.

He loved that girl to death. He knew she was the one. He decided as soon as he was out that door he was going to propose to her in the summer when his recovery was further along. He had both Behar and Shawn's permission. He just needed a time and a place to do it.
