Tyler Seguin One-Shots

Baby Talks

“Hey, Ty. Did the neighbors have a newborn, because I hear a baby crying all the way from –” You abruptly stopped in your tracks when you found baby stuff covering Tyler’s apartment and a baby crying in a panicked Tyler’s arms. “I think it’s crying, because it wants its parents.”
“It’s Chris and Ely’s newborn, Oliver.”
“Why in the world would they ask you to watch their baby? You barely watch your own dogs without me here.”
“Would you shut up and help me take care of this thing?” Tyler groaned as the baby only grew louder in his cries. “He’s been crying for the past hour.”
You rolled your eyes, but walked over to him nevertheless. “Is he hungry?”
“Fed him, like, fifteen minutes ago.”
“Burped him?”
“After he ate.”
“Tried singing a lullaby?”
“It may him cry harder.”
“Changed his diaper?”
“I think the bathroom will be forever stained with Oliver’s poop.”
You stopped when your stomach hit Tyler’s arms and you hovered right above the baby. He was adorable and tiny, but his crying brought a frown to your face. “Did you give him something to chew on?”
“Ye– wait, what?
You scooped Oliver out of Tyler’s arms and cradled him against your chest. You gently opened his mouth and saw a few teeth starting to poke out. “Go through the baby stuff. There should be a teething ring somewhere in there,” you said. When Tyler didn’t move, you looked up and gave him a disbelieving look. “Do you not know what a teething ring is?”
“I do,” he answered defensively, glaring at you. “How would you suddenly think of that?”
“My cousin had a baby recently, remember? I had to watch her a few times?”
He pursed his lips as he went on the hunt for the teething ring, and barely a minute later, the baby quieted. “You’re a good mommy,” Tyler commented, rubbing the back of his neck, completely surprised.
You gently rocked the baby in your arms. “I’m just more experienced than a hockey player with a five-year-old brain.”
He gently hit your head and said, “Hey.”
A pair of warm brown eyes stared up at you and they didn’t belong to the man you loved. Just staring into Oliver’s brown eyes touched something within you. “If this was our baby,” you started speaking without realizing it, “he definitely has your eyes.”
“If… this was… our… baby?” Tyler echoed like a slap in your face.
Your face burned and you hurriedly sat down on the couch cluttered with baby stuff. “Never, uh, mind. I’m just being stupid,” you mumbled and let out what felt like a forced laugh when Oliver accidentally threw the ring away.
Tears built in his eyes. Before you knew it, he was wailing again.
You were about to reach down for the ring, but Tyler quickly snatched it, crouching next to you. He wiped the ring with his shirt and slipped it back to Oliver, who went right to chewing on the ring again.
“If this was our baby,” you jumped in surprise at Tyler’s voice and looked over to find him smiling adoringly at the small creature in your arms, “he definitely has your facial features and hair color.” He moved into the spot next to you, but kept an arm wrapped around your waist and rested his head on yours, still watching the baby with adoration.
“You’re not, um, uncomfortable talking about something like this?” you asked hesitantly.
He turned his head and kissed your neck, mumbling, “You took me by surprise.” He rested his head back against yours, continuing, “I mean, I’m not ready to be a daddy yet, but… I wouldn’t mind having one of these things in the near future… with you once we settle down.”
“We are –” Realization hit you. You snapped your head back, but Tyler moved away before you could knock heads with him by accident. “You want to marry me?” you asked, eyes wide in surprise.
He cocked his eyebrows at your reaction. “Well, yeah. Why is everything I’m telling you a surprise?” He frowned and asked, hurt slipping into his voice, “Do you believe I’m lying every time I tell you ‘I love you’?”
“Of course not,” you blurted, eyes widening. Heat raced to your cheeks. “I just… I didn’t think you’d want to settle down with me the same way I do…”
Tyler suddenly grinned and said, “Of course I do. I need someone else with gorgeous genes to combine with mine to create the most gorgeous baby. Who else would be better than you?” You smacked him and he exclaimed, “That was a compliment!”
“One that completely ruined the moment.” You rolled your eyes and shook your head. You leaned into his arms and whispered, “I want to see our baby sitting in the Stanley Cup.”
“And then holding it above his head twenty or so years later,” he finished, kissing your cheek. “God. Oliver makes me want to get you accidentally pregnant.”
‘Accidentally’of course.
“I love you, Y/N.”
You snorted and shook your head. “I unfortunately love you, too, Ty.”
