Jamie Benn One-Shots

Scaredy Cats

“So, what’s, uh, your favorite color?”
“Green, I guess.”
“That’s, um, a nice color, I guess.
I guess? Isn’t that, like, your team’s color?” you inquired dryly, crossing your arms over your chest. You managed to force the edges of your lips to remain downward as you caught, from the corner of your eyes, the jittery captain of the Dallas Stars.
His brown eyes nervously flickered about the ominous corn stalks surrounding the two of you and you swore you could hear the hammering of his heart. Or maybe it was yours, but you wouldn’t admit to it as you were distracted by the grown man’s clear signs of distress. Maybe that was how you both got lost – you were too busy teasing Jamie’s terrified reaction [in the midst of running in fear yourself] when a scarecrow suddenly jumped out of the corn stalks and raised a chainsaw over its head.
Due to Jamie’s [and your] reaction, you both were separated from the original group and officially lost in the “haunted” maze.
Maybe you would be able to guide the two of you out of the maze, since you had a weird sense of direction and somehow managed to find yourself out of places whenever you got lost, but teasing the hell out of the famous Art Ross Trophy winner – and he was also quite hot, as a bonus – was more tempting. This was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“You know normally I’m one for chivalry, but from what it seems, I’ll be shoving you into whatever pops out at us and abandoning you to be killed all alone.”
Unable to resist, you burst into a fit of giggles as you turned right when you reached a fork in the maze. Jamie didn’t argue in your sudden lead and followed wordlessly, but, as he trailed slightly behind you, you could feel those brown eyes burning the back of your head. But it wasn’t a burning like a he-hates-your-guts-so-he’s-trying-to-kill-you-with-his-eyes, but it was something you couldn’t put your finger on.
“What?” you finally asked, looking over your shoulder, when the eyes just wouldn't disappear. Well, that was another sight you never thought you’d see – captain of the Dallas Stars, Jamie Benn, blushing. Your lips quivered as you struggled to fight back cooing at the adorable sight, but you didn’t bother resisting the smile that spread like wildfire across your lips. “What?”
“Nothing,” he grumbled, looking away, rubbing the back of his neck. He slightly picked up his pace, so he caught up with you, but still didn’t meet your eyes. “You’re just cute when you laugh like that.”
Maybe it was the wind or something, because you thought you faintly heard Jamie frickin’ Benn calling you cute. You paused in step and Jamie continued, ferociously rubbing the back of his neck, the tips of his ears so pink that you could see the color in the moonlight.
“I’m cute?” you echoed, a sinister grin spreading across your lips. You held your hands behind your back as you skipped over to the hockey player and playfully nudged his shoulder with yours. “I didn’t hear you that well. Maybe you just called me ugly.” You playfully pursed your lips and pushed his shoulder again. “That’s hurtful if you said that, Jamie, so which is it?”
You watched his lips part to answer your question, but right then and there –
Ah!
You were in Jamie’s arms. Your face was nuzzled in his chest and you could feel the hammering of his heart. Or maybe that was your heart? His strong arms embraced you and shook in fear – or maybe that was you? Nevertheless, whatever happened, you were in Jamie frickin’ Benn’s arms.
“Shit, Seguin. You scared the shit out of us,” Jamie sneered and the warmth of his body suddenly disappeared.
You stood there and blinked. What… You slowly turned around and found yourself in the maze’s exit with Tyler grinning like a Cheshire Cat and avoiding his best friend’s punches while your own best friend stood there sweetly, smiling at you.
“How was it?” she asked innocently as you approached.
“It was…” Your voice trailed and you sharply narrowed your eyes at your best friend. “Why so smug? It’s not like you planned this all to happen.”
Her smile turned mischievous. “You and Jamie splitting up from the group like scaredy cats? No, I didn’t,” she responded. “But me and Tyler bringing you and Jamie here was. Even us ditching you was part of it, but y’all beat us to it.”
You opened your mouth to sneer, but Tyler’s arms suddenly wrapped around your best friend’s waist and a smirk spread across his lips.
Oh, look at the time, honey,” he said, both sarcastically and innocently. “I think it’s time to ditch this lovely couple.”
“Tyler,” Jamie growled while you sneered your friend’s name as the couple took a few big steps back. Without another word from any of you, they spun around and ran off.
You didn’t bother chasing them and neither did Jamie. To be honest, neither of you wanted to.
You looked over at Jamie when he cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck. He refused to meet eyes with you as he nervously said, “Well, um, I’m in the mood for popcorn. Wanna, uh, go see if they have any popcorn stands?”
You smiled and slipped your hands into your back pockets. “Sounds good as long as I get cotton candy.”
He smiled and lifted his brown eyes to meet yours. “Deal,” he chimed and started walking, your arms brushing against each other.
“You’re paying since you got us lost,” you chirped after a moment of silence.
“As long as I get a date, I’m fine with that,” Jamie said more confidently than anything before.
You immediately straightened up. Now there’s the sexy captain you’ve watched on television. “I guess so.”
