DC Fantasy
Chapter 1
"Jake!" Someone called from far away. "Jake!"
I was on the ice at Verizon Center, practicing with my new team, the Washington Capitals.
"Jake, wake up!"
I woke with a start. I wasn't on the ice at Verizon Center. It was just a dream. The part about the Capitals being my new team, had not been a dream though. I would go to the arena today to meet my new team.
I rolled over in bed. It was 9 AM on a beautiful sunday at the end of August.
My girlfriend was still shaking me.
"Ashley!" I protested. "It's too early."
She had a plate of french toast in her hand for me.
"I brought you breakfast in bed." She told me sweetly.
"Aw, honey. You didn't have to do that." I told her.
I reached up, and she instinctively put down the plate. I put my arms around her waist, and pulled her down on top of me. She landed gently, and didn't pull away. I hugged her, and pulled her in closer to me. Our lips met, and we held a kiss for a good 20 seconds. Finally, she pulled away.
"Eat your breakfast, before you need to go to the rink!" She called over her shoulder as she headed back into the kitchen to wash some dishes.
I mumbled a protest, but she didn't hear me. I sighed and dug into my food.
40 minutes later, I stepped out of the shower, back into the bedroom Ashley and I shared. She was waiting on the bed for me. I walked over to her, with my towel around my waist. She grabbed the towel, and I let her take it without protest. She gently wiped the water droplets off of my back and chest. I sighed. She handed me back the towel, and I started to get dressed. I dressed mainly in silence, with the exeption of talking to our cat, who had made his way into our room, and was relaxing on our bed.
I finished dressing, and walked out to the kitchen. Ashley handed me a glass of Orange Juice, and I gulped it down.
"Thanks Sweetie." I said.
I moved forward, and gently kissed her lips. She smiled. I grabbed my keys, and headed for the door. At the door, I turned back, and blew her a kiss.
"Be back by 5." I told her.
She blew my kiss back, and I closed the door behind me.
