Champion Mistake

I sit in my car for a good hour at the playground, thinking about what Shea told me. Part of me is mad and the other part is numb. I know this was an agreement we had but, why her? Of all the women to screw, he had to choose her.

Collecting my breath, I start the car and head home. Half way there, I turn around and go to the store to buy some wine. I buy two big bottles of red wine, the total nearing $80. I never spend that much money on alcohol but I’m distressed so fuck it.

“You’re back,” Sid states when he finds me on our bed. I already broke into the first bottle, filling my Olivia Pope styled wine class to the top. My emotions are all over the place when I lay eyes on him. Annoyed at first then straight up angry but I keep my cool until he says something stupid.

“Yup, I am,” I respond bitterly after another gulp.

“And you’re drinking… on our bed.” I roll my eye so hard I swear I can see my brain. Sidney stares blankly at me then heads toward the bathroom. When he comes out I burst.

“ I know you fucked Jen.”

“Excuse me?” He chokes before he can put a hand on the handle to leave. We stare each other down for a good minute before I speak again.

“You fucked Jen. Don’t deny it and don’t get mad at whoever snitched. You should have told me. You should have told me!” I say screaming. Sidney continues to stare at me.

“Say something you bastard!” I put my wine down on the side table before I throw a pillow at him. He dodges it; I throw another one. “Fucking say something!”

“What do you want me to say huh?” He yells at me. “You gave me a pass and I took it.”

“You took it with that bitch who tried to ruin our relationship! She broke your heart! How could you lower yourself to sleep with her?” Sidney runs his hands through his hair and comes to sit on the bed. I move away from him.

“I should have told you.”

“Well, you didn’t because you’re a fucking coward. The minute after it was over you should have told me.”

“So you could respond like this? I hate when you’re mad at me.”

“Oh shut up. Just shut up. You’re not a child. You were scared that I would get mad at you? Yeah, I would’ve been mad at you but I would have appreciated that you told me. Directly from you and I would’ve gotten over it by the time you came home. Now I’m just embarrassed and pissed.” My breathing is heavy and my head hurts from the alcohol.

“I know… I am so, so, so sorry babe. I was just ashamed to tell you. I’m sorry I made you drink.” I don’t look at him for awhile, listening to the quietness of the room. I grab my glass again and chug the rest. I give a small burp.

“I hope she was good,” I slur.

“Baby, please,” Sidney starts but I raise a hand to stop him.

“I’m serious. I hope she was worth the waste of a hall pass because you won’t be getting another one ever again unless you dump me.”

“What can I do to make it up to you?” He asks hesitantly. “ I just want you, I want you to be my wife.”

“You can start by leaving me the fuck alone. You can sleep on the couch and not talk to me until I’m ready.” I pour another glass of wine. “I’m too tired and drunk to talk or even look at you so, leave. Now.”

“Okay,” Sid says quietly. I lay back onto the bed, closing my eyes and resting my glass on my stomach. The bed shifts as he gets off. The last thing I hear is the door closing before the tears start.

I'm back! Short and sweet but this is how I would react tbh. I might do an epilogue because I don't want a sad ending for these two, they're so cute! Who knows, I may write an actual story about them. Hope you enjoy!
