A Shot in the Dark

New Places

I sent my brother a quick text reminding him of the time my flight would be arriving. The only bright side of this move was being able to live with my brother again. We haven’t seen much of each other since his move to Chicago two years ago. I understand that he is busy as one of the top surgeons at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital, but I can’t help but miss him sometimes. He had a gorgeous apartment right by the hospital, and he was gracious enough to let me stay with him for free. I put my phone down and slowly drifted off to sleep, not knowing what the next few months would bring me.
My alarm woke me up at 7:30 the next morning. I groaned. I was not ready to leave my bed, but the moving van was going to be here in 30 minutes. I slowly got dressed, a pair of black leggings and a tank top with a flannel over it. I made sure all the moving boxes were in my garage, and I put my overnight bag by the door. After the moving van had left, I called a taxi to take me to the airport. I looked around my house, and I knew that this was the last time I would live in Buffalo. It was time for the big move.
A few hours later my plane had finally landed in Chicago. I had already texted my brother informing him that my flight had landed and that I would be out in ten minutes.
After what seemed like an hour I was finally let off the plane. The first thing I noticed was my brothers brown curly hair, it was extremely similar to mine. Some might think that we are twins with our matching brown hair and green eyes, but his 6’3 frame towered over my 5’6 height. We both are relatively toned but Matthew has more of a muscular build.
Matthew gave me a running hug which I gladly accepted. I did not realize how much I had missed him until in this moment. He always gave the best hugs.
“ I could not be happier that you are here Taylor! I have missed you so much!” He said almost too loudly.
“Matthew quiet down! You’re so loud. But I’ve missed you more. I can’t believe that it’s been two years since I’ve last seen you.”
“I know. I don’t know how I let time get away from me like that. Good thing we’re back in the same city again.”
“Yeah. We’re going to have a great time living together.”
“Even better than that, I’m going to make sure this is one of the best decisions you ever made.” He said as we made our way out of the airport. And as much as I wanted to believe him I couldn’t help but notice all the posters of Patrick Kane surrounding me. Declaring him as Chicago’s hockey hero. This was going to be interesting.
