Wishing on a Shooting Star
Chapter Two
I woke up to my alarm going off at 7 am, knowing that it was time to get out of bed, since I had to be at work in an hour. I rolled over and grabbed my phone to turn off my alarm and I found at text from Jamie. [we are just getting on the plane, just waiting on the rest of the boys to load up. Off to Chicago. I’ll text you when we land] I instantly smiled. I actually can’t believe that he texted me. I mean I thought I was just going to be another number added to his phone that he would forget about it. I rolled out of bed and headed to my closet. Needed to get dressed and out the door so I could stop and get breakfast.
20 minutes later I grabbed my purse and jacket and headed out the door to my car. When I got in my car, I quickly decided to text Jamie back to make sure that he knew I was still interested in him. [I hope that the boys all made it on time. I hope you guys had a good flight, maybe even got some extra sleep before the game tonight! Hope you guys get there safe.] I quickly put my car in reverse and whipped out of the parking garage. I need to get coffee in my system before I had to get to the office and start my job. I work at the District Attorney’s office, I am the District Attorney’s assistant so that is a lot of phone calls, paper work and people to deal with. Riley was the main secretary for the office which is how we became friends. I pulled into the drive thru and ordered my coffee and as I was waiting at the window, my phone buzzed in the cup holder. I looked at it and my heart fluttered a little when I saw it was a text from Jamie. [hey pretty girl, just wanted you to know that we’ve landed safely, Jordie was almost late, leave it to my brother to forget to set his alarm this morning. We are just getting on the bus and heading to morning practice.] I decided to wait to text him till I got to work, since I don’t think I could handle texting and driving at the same time. 10 minutes later I pulled into the parking garage at work. I had 10 minutes to spare before I was considered late. I quickly grabbed my stuff and took the ride in the elevator as time to text Jamie back. [LOL, just glad it wasn’t you. I was hoping I hadn’t kept you out too late last night. I hope morning skate goes well. I’m just getting into work right now.] I replied and sent the text just as the elevator dinged that we were on my floor. I walked into our office and walking towards my desk. “Good morning, Mrs. Future Jamie Benn.” I heaard Riley say from behind me. I laughed before putting my stuff on my desk and turning to look at her. “Let’s not shout that too loud okay? We don’t even know if he is going to ask me out on a second date yet!” I said “Is he still texting you?” she asked. Before I could answer my phone buzzed in my purse. “I’m going to go ahead and take that as a yes.” She said before pulling my phone out of my purse and seeing that Jamie had texted me. “Give me that, now go back to your desk before we both get in trouble! I’ll see you at lunch!” I said before pushing her in the direction of her desk. I took a look at my phone as a sat down in my chair and turned on my computer. [Oh, even if you had I’m sure you keeping me up late would be worth it. I feel so bad I never asked you what you did for a living. Also don’t be alarmed if I don’t respond right back, we are about to hit the locker room for morning skate so I’ll text you when I get done with that.] I smiled to myself that’s so sweet he cares about what I do for a living. I logged into my computer and saw that my boss wouldn’t be in for another 10 minutes so I can quickly send a text back before I’m going to have to get Mr. Gibson his coffee and get his opening files onto his desk. [aww, well that is really sweet. It’s okay I mean it never came up because well I know what you do. I’m the assistant to the District Attorney in Dallas, so that is answering phone calls, making coffee, organizing files, oh and charming lawyers and criminals with my great personality ;), have a good time at morning skate I hope that it works well.] I then put my phone in my desk before starting my day of work.
The morning was crazy! I was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. If I wasn’t answering phones, I was pulling files, getting lawyers from the lobby, writing emails and making meetings. Finally my lunch break had rolled around which mean I had 45 minutes to relax before I had to go back to the craziness of the office. I texted Riley that I was headed to the sandwich shop that was downstairs and told her to just meet me down there when she was ready. This was the first chance I have had to see my phone, and I saw Jamie had texted me back, luckily it had only been like 20 minutes ago, so I didn’t leave him hanging for too long. [oh wow! What an interesting job, I bet you see all kinds of things come through your office. I would love to hear some of your stories! Just got done with morning practice and it went great. The boys are all feeling good, we are just showering and heading to get something to eat and then headed to our hotel rooms for naps.] I smiled It is just nice to have someone to talk to about life. I got in line at the sandwich place and decided to reply while I was waiting in line. [oh yea you know there are some pretty crazy people and cases that come through here. I mean if we hang out some more I would love to share my stories over you know a dinner or a lunch :P. I’m glad practice went well this morning, can’t wait to watch you guys play tonight! Also so sorry it took a while to respond the office has been crazy as hell today] as I finished my text Riley jumped in line with me. “So how’s the boy toy?” she asked throwing a wink in my direction. “He isn’t a boy toy! And he is good, he just got done with practice. He asked me what I do and has been asking me how I am. He is just really sweet. I hope asks me out again.” I said. “He will so stop worrying. He is going to ask you out again. Now order you sandwich I’m hungry and we only have 30 minutes of lunch left.” She said pushing me towards the courter so that I could order.
Lunch was over much faster then I wanted it to be. I didn’t get a text from Jamie at my lunch break so I figured that he was napping. I walked back up to the danger zone and before I had to get back on the clock I got a text from Jamie. [sorry that work has been so crazy today! Hopefully you can relax and watch me and the boys play tonight. Also on the note of lunch I was wondering when I get back tomorrow would you want to do lunch? What time is your lunch and how long could you get off? I just want to get to know you better. I’m hitting the hay but just wanted you to know that I won’t look at my phone after 4 because we have team meetings and getting ready for the game and stuff. Hope the rest of your day is better.] I smiled and quickly shot him a text back. [I would love to do lunch with you and I could probably get about an hour off for lunch if I put in in my calendar now. I’m glad that you want to get to know me more because I want to do the same with you. I get off for lunch at 11:30, also 4 is right when I get off work so good luck tonight if I can’t get back to you before then. Have a good nap!] I put my phone in my purse and quickly blocked out my lunch hour so that I could go out with Jamie for lunch.
My day was coming to an end and I was so ready to be able to go home, order takeout, get in my sweats and watch some hockey. As I was about to start shutting my computer down, my phone started to vibrate. [Just want you to go ahead and block out lunch on Thursday. I will be back in town tomorrow but it wouldn’t be till later in the day so I’ll just see you on Thursday. I’ll text you after the game, I hope your day turned out better!] I smiled as I read the text and then changed my blocked lunch to Thursday. I shut down my computer and made sure that Mr. Gibson didn’t need anything else before I packed up my stuff to go home. I quickly decided that I should text Jamie back. [I’m headed home right now, it was such a crazy day. I hope you guys play well, I’m headed out right now to get home and get ready. I block out my lunch on Thursday so I can’t wait to see you!] I then ran out the door before anyone else could stop me and ask for my help.
