Russian Roulette
32: Forgiveness
My stomach was in knots and I was sweating. I walk into the cafeteria and sit down at Matt and Elias’ table. They looked shocked at first but then turn their attention back to their meal.
“Look I know you guys hate me and I totally deserve it. I’ve been a bitch these past couple of weeks but I didn’t mean to be. I screw up so often and I’m left to deal with mess and sometimes my life just loses balance. I’m really sorry for being the world’s worst friend,” I say sincerely.
“So he’s letting you talk to us?” Elias asks.
“I told him you guy’s were my friends. He noticed how sad I was without you guys.” They don’t say anything and I sigh.
“Please forgive me, I’ll do anything.”
“Anything?” Elias says smiling. I give him a quizzical look and him at Matt smile at each other.
“Hi you must be Lindsay,” I say warmly. Elias had been trying to go out with a scrub nurse for weeks now but she had consistently turned him down.
“Dr. Eriksson hi. Can I help you?” she asks.
“My friend Dr. Dixon, thinks you’re really pretty and really wants to go out with you.”
“Yeah I don’t think so.”
“Come on. He’s actually really funny. Please.”
“He’s literally slept with every other nurse at this hospital.”
“Who’s your least favourite surgeon to scrub in for?” I ask.
“Dr. Turner. She always yells at me,” she replies.
“Every time you have a surgery with her, I’ll request you personally to scrub in on mine instead.”
“You’d do that?”
“If you go out with Elias.”
“Fine.” I shake her hand and walk away smiling. I head to the nurse’s station where Matt and Elias are charting.
“So?” Elias asks excitedly.
“You’re in,” I reply. He gets up and hugs me tightly and leaves to find the scrub nurse. Me and Matt are left there awkwardly so I pull a seat beside him.
“I got Elias a date, is there anything you want me to do?” I ask him.
“No, that’s okay,” he replies.
“I know a lot went down between us but I miss my best friend. I just want to go back to how it was.”
“I don’t know if that’s possible, but we can try,” he says while giving me a small smile. I lean over and hug him and everything feels right.
I head to Consol with Audrina later that evening. We grab a drink and head to wives box.
“Congratulations on the engagement!” Vero says excitedly.
“You must be so excited,” Catherine says smiling.
“I am,” I reply.
“Do you guy’s know what you’re doing yet?” Maureen asks.
“Not yet,” I tell her. The game starts and we take our seats. I couldn’t help but smile when I see Geno skating around. I may have risked everything for him to get back on the ice but I didn’t regret it.
“How are you and James?” I ask Audrina.
“We’re good. He actually asked me to move in with him last night,” she says smiling.
“No way, that’s so exciting!” I exclaim.
“Which means we’ll have to rent out the apartment.” I suddenly feel sad and reflect on the years I spent in that apartment. I loved it and it held so many cherished memories. I was definitely going to miss it.
“As sad as that makes me, it just reminds me that we’re moving forward to new chapters in our lives,” I tell her.
“Who would have thought that when we moved here you’d be engaged to a Pittsburgh Penguin and I’d be dating his linemate.” I smile and shake my head. It sounded funny hearing it out loud.
The Penguins won 3-1 against the Lightning and Geno scored the game winner. I say goodbye to Audrina and heads towards the locker room to meet Geno. He comes out after awhile and his face lights up when he sees me.
“Nice goal,” I say smiling.
“Happy you saw,” he replies. He holds my hand and we walk towards the corner of parking garage where he parked. We get in the car and I can’t help but stare at him. His hair was still damp from the shower and he was wearing my favourite suit.
“What?” he asks suspiciously. I lean over the console and press my lips against his. I feel him respond and I deepen our kiss. I reach my hand into his lap and start petting him over his pants. I feel him getting hard so I undo my jeans and strip them off along with my underwear. I climb onto Geno’s lap and recline the seat. The windows have fogged up and I unbuckle Geno’s belt. He pulls away breathless and I look at him confused.
“What if someone catch us?” he says concerned.
“No one’s going to catch us,” I reassure him. He smiles and leans in to kiss me again. I feel my body temperature spiking and adrenaline is coursing through my veins. I finally get him free from his boxer briefs and I lower myself onto him. I hear him groan and I bite his neck. I rock my hips back and forth at a steady pace and I can feel him hit every inch of me. My tongue dominates his and his hands go up my shirt and he cups my breasts. I pick up the pace and my orgasm hits me like a tidal wave. I continue to ride Geno through it and a few moments later I hear a deep guttural noise escape his throat. We sit there for a while cooling down and catching our breaths.
“Wow,” Geno finally says after awhile. I smile and kiss his nose. I crawl off of him and put my pants back on. He smiles and shakes his head and zips his own pants up. He turns on the defrost button to defog to the windows and we head home and crawl into bed, both spent from the day. He’s holding my hand when he notices the scar running along the side of it.
“What happened?” he asks. I felt awkward answering the question.
“I smashed a mirror,” I say hesitantly.
“Why?”
“I saw a picture of you and another girl.” He doesn’t say anything right away.
“I try to move on but is hard. You were only one I want to be with. I thought it was best if I leave.”
“It wasn’t. I’m sorry that I made you think that I didn’t want to be with you. You were right, I was unhappy because I did the surgery but I don’t regret it now. Seeing you back on the ice makes it totally worth it,” I tell him.
“Спасибо за то рисковать всем и фиксируя мое колено. Я люблю тебя так много Quinn. (Thank you so much for fixing my knee Quinn. I love you so much.)
“Я тоже тебя люблю Женю. (I love you too Zhenya.)” I lie on his chest and reflect on the past six months. So much had happened and we had been through so much but we somehow still made it through and we were somehow still getting married. Our relationship was complicated and messy at times but I figured love wasn’t easy. You had to fight for it.
