Confessions of An Ice Girl

Sitting in the waiting room with James by my side felt surreal. Today was the day we'd find out what we were having. James had a hold of my hand and he smiled over at me, "Are you excited?" he asked

"Nervous." I replied

"Me too." he confessed "But, I'm excited that we can finally start getting stuff for the baby and deciding on a name."

I smiled "I am too. Have you spoke to your parents?"

James nodded "Yeah. My mom said to call when we find out...if that's okay with you?"

"Of course. Have you talked to any of the guys about it?"

"I told Paul and Borts...have you talked to any of the girls?"

"I told a few of them. They want to throw me a shower."

"Good." James smiled

"Miss Cartwright?" a nurse called, smiling at me. James and I got up following her to the back "How are we feeling today, mom?"

"Good. Excited to see what we're having." I replied

"I bet and you, dad?"

"Huh? Oh...I'm great." James half smiled squeezing my hand

I smiled up at him "We're both nervous."

"I know what you mean." the nurse smiled leading us to a room "Sit up here, Miss Cartwright. Dad, you can sit over there."

"Thank-you." I smiled "And please call me Abby. Miss Cartwright is so formal."

The nurse smiled "Sure, Abby. Alright, the doctor will be in in just a minute."

"Thank-you." I smiled as the nurse stepped out "Are you ready?" I asked looking over at James

James smiled and nodded "Yeah. I'm trying to contain the excitement." he laughed

I laughed "Yeah me too."

"What are you hoping for?" he asked

"I don't know. I'm going to be happy with either, honestly."

James smiled "Me too."

My OBGYN came into the room "Hey, Abby! How are we feeling today?" she asked

"Good." I smiled

"And you must be dad. So nice meeting you." she said smiling at James, shaking his hand

"Thank-you. You too."

"Alright. So you're about 23 weeks now. Let's so how things are going and see if we can find out what you're having, okay?"

I nodded "Okay."

She lifted my shirt, putting the jelly on my stomach and placing the machine on my belly. "The heartbeat is good. Just where we want it to be. There's the head right there...and feet. Are you ready to know what you're having?"

I nodded "Yes."

"Alright, let me just move this a little over and congratulations, it's a girl!"

"A girl?" I smiled. She nodded "James, we're having a girl!"

James smiled squeezing my hand tighter "I know." he said kissing my cheek

"Everything's looking great. She's growing at the rate we want her to. I'm putting your due date in about July 12."

I nodded "Sounds great!"

"Did you need a refill on any of your vitamins?"

"No, I'm good."

"Alright. Any questions?"

I looked over at James and he shook his head "No. We're good."

"Alright. I want to see you again in about 3-4 weeks, okay? Just to monitor things again and see how we're doing, okay?"

"Okay. Thank-you." I smiled. James and I headed back to his car and he smiled, pulling me in for a hug "I'm so excited! A baby girl!"

"Me too." James smiled "I'm gunna call my mom quick before we go."

"Okay. I'm gunna call Jordyn." I smiled dialing her number

"Abby!! What's up?"

"I have some news!"

"What's that?"

"We're having a girl!"

Jordyn screamed "Oh my gosh, Abby, I'm so happy for you! Are you excited?"

"Yeah. We both are?"

"I can't wait to go shopping with you and get her a bunch of outfits! Any names yet?"

"No. We we're waiting until we found out to even discuss that."

"Okay! Well if you need help with ideas, call me! Congratulations! Tell James the same."

"I will. Thank-you. I'll talk to you later."

"Okay, Abby. Bye!"

"Bye!" I smiled hanging up and looking over to James "Is your mom happy?"

James nodded "Her first grand-baby, of course she is! And we're having a girl." James laughed "Mom got stuck with us for boys and just Rebecca, so she's excited for another girl."

I smiled "I can't wait."

James smiled and kissed me "I love you, Abby."

"I love you too, James." I smiled.
