Chapter 4

"I am the riddle master!" Isabelle screamed running circle around us.
We were outside in the neighborhood park enjoying the few weeks of summer left before the hecticness of life would hit us. At first it was supposed to be us four relaxing, but Brendan felt like sitting down and enjoying the weather was for old people. And since we didn't bring a frisbee or a ball to play with, Anna had thought of asking riddles. She had downloaded this app on her phone and wanted to tested them out on us. Brendan before the game began claimed he would win. And that was his first mistake. Isabelle toke it as a challenge and placed a bet with her boyfriend. That if she won, he would have to clean their house till the season begins and that he would have to call her the riddle master. And Brendan being Brendan was too stubborn to think the possibility of Isabelle actually winning. He said, and I quote,
"In your dreams El. I'm the best in my family at these."
And her response to all of this? She kicked mine and his butt. I didn't mind losing. Honestly, I already knew we were destine to lose. She is a literature student. Logically, it would make sense that we lose. So this is why Isabelle is still running circle around us screaming that she is the riddle master. She stopped because she fell due to the fact she was laughing while running.
"Man." She panted placing her hands on her knees. "Isn't exhilarating winning over your sorry ass." She said towards Brendan.
"Yeah yeah." Brendan rolled his eyes at her. Clearly annoyed of the fact he lost and that he would have to clean their house for a good month and a half. Isabelle laughed at her boyfriend of 2 years continued to run like a child. Anna and I couldn't help but find her amusing. She fell again because she tripped over a piece of wood.
"Ow." She said while giggling. She was clearly not in pain.
"That'll teach you to be unsportsman." Brendan scoff at her. She rested on her forearms and gave Brendan an amused look.
"Aww, are you mad that I won?" She cooed. She got up and made her towards Brendan and hugged him. But he pushed her aside.
"You're really that mad eh?" She asked laughing.
"And you're really out of shape. When was the last time you did cardio?" He shot back at her. Isabelle was never one to find herself unfit. Well, she didn't look like that.
"Just now! It was fun!" She said smiling widely at him.
"In the last 10 months? That's not good." He quickly replied getting up. We all got up except Isabelle, She was still laying down on the grass.
"Yeah, but I still look freaking hot." She said smiling at him. He eyed her and couldn't help but smile.
"And I'm damn smart!" She said getting up abruptly. "Because I am the riddle master!" She shouted. Some people had looked towards us and gave her a disapproving look. But Isabelle was in her own world right now to even pay attention to them.
"Stop it would you?" Brendan said.
"Why? She did win fair and square" Anna told him. We were walking towards my car to get back home.
"Yeah Bren, I won fair and square" She said taunting Brendan.
"Watch it El." He said trying to make her stop. But Isabelle was feeling sky high right now. She rarely ever wins against Brendan since every bet they make has to do with physical stuff. And she isn't the most athletic between the two of them.
"Whacha ya gonna do?" She asked taunting him even more. "I kno..."
"That's it" Brendan shouted. "Come here!" He said running after her. Isabelle's face was in complete shock. But she immediately ran away. She ran as fast as she could but Brendan was too fast for her. He caught up to her in no time. He twirled her around by her waist and her head was thrown back laughing like a little kid. They are perfect for each other. And I couldn't help but feel my heart break and be overwhelmed with joy for them.
"So how could I didn't get any details on your date with Samantha?" Anna asked slightly pushing my shoulder.
"It's because I chose not to tell you." I said smiling.
"Come on! I basically helped Isabelle planned it out." She said.
"And I am grateful for it. But I want the memory to be between me and Samantha." I said.
"Okay. Fine." She said semi agreeing with it.
"But can I at least get a comment?" I was about to answer but I saw Samantha from a far. She was talking to Isabelle. I couldn't make up of what it was but when she locked her gaze on me, I didn't know what to do. I was unaware of anything. The ground felt like it was as solid as mist. She closed in the space between us. I still had managed to take 3 steps.
"Alex! How are you?" She asked embracing me in a hug. Her frame was so small against mine. She felt fragile against me. And Samantha portraits herself as someone nowhere near fragile.
"I'm good." I said looking into her hazel eyes. The corner of her eyes wrinkles when she smiles at me. And smiling at me was exactly what she was doing.
"I didn't know you lived on this side of town?" I told her. She was still pressed on me. My arm was still wrapped around her waist. And for some odd reason, I did not want to let go of her. I like the warmth of her body against mine.
"You really are bad with directions aren't you?" She said giggling.
"Why do you say that?" I asked smiling awkwardly.
"The parlor I work at is near here Alex." She said.
"Oh." I answered laughing awkwardly. She laughed too and slightly hit my stomach. But left her hand there. We walked slowly towards Brendan, Isabelle and Anna. Honestly, I wanted to just spend time with her. Only her. I liked being with her even thought I feel like I'm having a heart attack most of the time with her.
"Hey guys? Do you mind if I borrow Alex for awhile?" I heard Samantha ask them the moment they where close to us.
"No! Not at all!" Isabelle said smiling widely. "Go and have some fun."
"But how are we suppose to get home?" Brendan asked. He did have a point. I was the one who drove us here.
"What? Mister "I do cardio" can't handle a few blocks?" She asked him making fun of him.
"Oh honey, I can handle it. The really question here can you." He said. She smiled evilly at him.
"I think so. But if not, you'll just carry me home. Let's go!" She said pulling Brendan away from me and Samantha.
"Have fun!" She shouted. I kept starring at them. They barely walked for a minute and Brendan was already carrying Isabelle on his shoulders.
"They're so cute." Samantha said. I fixed my eyes on hers. I gave her a sly smile.
"I thought I was cute."
"I thought you didn't liked being called cute?" She retorted back. We walked the opposite side from where my friends had gone.
"I don't but that doesn't change that I am cute." I said smirking down at her.
"True, but I find us more attractive than cute. Brendan and Iz, they're cute. But us," She said coming closer to me.
"We're something else." Her lips were inches away from mine. I could feel the heat radiating from them. And boy did I feel tempted to kiss them. She had her hands in my hair. And she smiled warmly at me. Her pupils were dilated to a point were I couldn't see her hazel-caramel colored eyes. They do that when she's craving something. And right now, the only thing I think she wants, is for me to kiss her. So I did. It was sweet and slow. And man did I love it. When we pulled a part I couldn't help but smile like I just gotten signed to play for the Montreal Canadiens.
"Mysterious, that's what this is." I said looking at her. She thought about it for a few seconds and smiled at the idea of it.
"A mysterious romance. I like the sound of that." She said kissing me one more time.
I to liked the sound of that.
