"Okay so the power is actually out," Sid says coming down the stairs. I finish lighting the last of the candles; there are three in the kitchen, two on the either side of the TV, and two on the coffee table.

"Yeah I figured," I flick off my lighter and place it on the table. "The lights always get a little bit wonky when it storms. You'd think a nice place like this would at least have decent electricity," I shrug. My mother insisted I live here when she came with me to look at the place and if anyone knows anything about my mother, she's stubborn as a mule. I plop down on the couch as Sid rummages through my fridge. He comes back with two bottles of water and the carton of strawberries.

"Hey!" I exclaim as Sid waddles himself back onto my couch. "Those are my strawberries. I was saving them for a special occasion." Sidney snorts and rolls his eyes, his lips wrapping around the ripe fruit deliciously. Know I can see why they say strawberries are an aphrodisiac.

"What special occasion do you need strawberries for?"

"When I need a relaxation day I run a bath and set up candles. I complete it with champagne and my strawberries. It's very soothing." Sidney's face twitches curiously as he bites the fruit to the leaves.

"That does sound relaxing, I'll have to do that sometime," Sid grabs my legs by the ankles and places them across his lap. Sidney gently pulls me closer to him, my butt almost in his lap.

"You definitely should. I think hockey players deserve a lot of self care. Baths are wonderful," I say.

"Mhm," Sid agrees. He takes another strawberry and holds it to my lips. I keep my mouth shut. "Will you open your mouth please? These are too good not to share," he smiles. He comes into my house and tries to feed me my strawberries all the while looking as good as sin. I hate him and his stupidly flirtatious ways. And the worst part is, I don't think he even knows he's being flirty...or maybe he does.

"How generous of you Sidney," I chuckle before biting down on the strawberry. My eyes close as I savor the sweetness. "Happy now?"

"Very," he says. "So I guess I have to stay here." Rolling my eyes, I lean in to take another bite.

"Not necessarily but I guess you can stay if you'd like." I want him to stay; of course I want him to stay. This is too good of a moment to come to an end. He's comfy as fuck and we're in the beginning stages of cuddling. In the three weeks of knowing Sidney, I've become attached and I won't pass up an opportunity like this. Sidney laughs lightly and rubs my bare calves. I'm always surprised that his hands aren't as rough as I thought they would be. It's not like they're completely smooth either. I do my best to ignore the small goose bumps that trail his hand.

"Thanks," Sidney says. "It's been nice hanging out with you. I mean I'd consider these dates right?"

"Yeah we can consider these dates," I say.

"It's just sucked a lot lately. With this injury," Sidney trails off, his eyes glazed with sadness. I take his hand in mine and draw little shapes on the back of it. Sidney relaxes a little and I stare at him, wishing I could help him not be hurt anymore but the best I can do is be here for him.

"I can't imagine how much this sucks for you, Sidney. I hate there isn't anything I can do." Sidney raises my hand to his lips, the soft skin flush with mine. I turn my face from him shyly, suddenly feel very warm from the intimate action.

“You’ve already done so much,” he says, “just being with me and helping forget about this stupid injury for a bit.” Sidney smiles at me softly, those golden eyes glisten in the candlelight making me think about how they can’t possibly be real. My own eyes find themselves tracing the outline of his lips, imaging how soft they felt against my hand and how soft they’d feel against my own lips.

“What are you thinking about now?” I ask when I finally look him in the eye once again. “You got really quiet.”

“I’m thinking about how badly I want to kiss you,” he admits. It takes me a few seconds for my brain to process his words and a lot of self control to no squeal out loud. Somehow I manage, saving myself from embarrassment.

“Oh my,” I whisper. Sidney laughs softly, his hand tilts my head up to look at him.

“Yeah Mya,” he brushes a stray hair away from my face. “I’ve thought about it ever since we met. It’s been killing me to constantly be this close to you and not kiss you every chance I get.”

“So what are you waiting for?” My voice doesn’t sound like my own; all the air has escaped my chest and I feel dizzy. Sidney’s admission to wanting to kiss me for this long has left me winded and very excited for whatever may come next.

“Believe it or not, the right moment,” Sidney says.

“And what would be the right moment?” I ask. Sidney looks at me fondly and then around at the glowing room.

“I think now is a good time,” he says.
