Move Over

Chapter Three: Lightning Lehto

I saved Seguin's shot with my blocker. You'd think elite level players would at least have good one timers but, alas they don't and it was extremely fun to rob them.

"BITCH SHOT!" I yelled as he begun to cracked up. fI stood up from my crease and skated over to my new bestie. I tossed the puck on the ground, and slide to a stop, giving Seguin an unwanted ice shower. That's right over the course of 4 days, me, Seguin and Horton have been inseparable.

"It wasn't a bitch shot!" he argued, "You're just an amazing goalie" I smiled at him while cocking an eyebrow at him.

"Tuukka's better" I sighed, plopping down on the ice; Tyler just shrugged.

"He could be, if you keep that attitude." He smiled, plopping down beside me. I'd never had a best friend that was on my team before, so this was new and exciting.

He looked side to side, like a little kid and continued, "If you ask me, you could teach him a few things." He whispered and we continued to giggle amongst each other.

"Well, you'll see my fine ass in action because apparently, the Tuukster pulled a hamstring and will be out for the next week" I exclaimed, letting out a girly squeal and clapping my hands together like a retarded seal. I couldn't help it though, it was amazing.

"You know, he's just jealous," Seguin shrugged, like it was nothing.

"He has nothing to be jealous about, at the end of the day, he's getting paid more and has more skill" I said, and Seguin begun to laugh.

"Not of you, of me and Horton. He wants to be your friend," he paused "He was just was freaked out because the magazines accused him of getting you pregnant and stuff" I rolled my eyes and gave him a 'really-I-don't-think-so' look.

"I'll talk to him." I really wouldn't talk to him, but it made Seguin happy to hear I was trying to make it work with him. I sighed, and leaned my head on Seguin's shoulder. We were snapped out of our conversation by Coach.

"I don't remember saying to stop and talk" Claude shouted across the rink at us and our heads both snapped over to the bench where Coach Julien was standing. He didn't look happy, so we jumped up, and I begun to skate backwards over to my crease.

"Grouchy much" I mouthed to the retreating Seguin. I skated back to my crease and Seguin was already charging up the ice.

I sighed and he performed a wrist shot, blocker save, rebound, covered up.

He groaned but, smiled then gave his usual "nice save" as I passed him the puck. I only gave him a small, focused, nod as the rest of the guys came out on the ice.

"Finally! Where were you?!" Claude shouted to Chara as he glided out to the centre of the ice. He was definitely in a bad mood. He was usually more patient than this.

"Uh....Getting ready, coach" He answered and Claude gave him a look that would kill. Claude rolled his eyes and signaled for them to take shots on net.

Marchand: Backhand shot, glove save.

I tossed the puck to the side and nodded for Hamilton to shoot. he did, snapshot, glove save.

I think it was around the 23th save that Claude stopped us with a wave of his hand. He looked to one of the trainers, and muttered something to him.

"She's ready" The goaltending coach, Bob stated, skating over from the back of the net to the bench. Claude gave me a look of approval. I nodded and they both gave me reassuring smiles.

Great. More pressure for Alek.

I wasn't going to lie, i was really nervous. Like, really nervous, I couldn't even think straight."It'll be fine," Horton said for the hundredth time. The locker room was bustling with activity, but I was sitting, my arms on my knees- totally freaking out.

"It'll be fine" I repeated his words, trying to convince myself. I needed to work on my convincing skills because right now, no matter what anyone said- Horton or Seguin; no one could calm me.

"Ugh...We can't do anything for her, she has to talk to Tuukka!" Seguin rolled his eyes, clasping his hand around my upper arm. He lugged me into the injury room where Tuukka was sitting on one of the metal examination tables, staring at the wall. Seguin pushed me towards him, shutting the door so I hadn no choice but to talk to Tuukka. The slam of the door was loud enough for Tuukka to hear and glance back at me.

"Hi" I mumbled, my nervousness and timidness was radiating from me like sun rays. I could tell by the look on his face he knew the feelings that were bubbling and brewing deep in my stomach.

"You're nervous," it wasn't a question. He knew as I predicted. I nodded.

"Believe me, after the third game, you'll be fine." He said, cautiously sliding off the table and hobbling over to me. He had a tensor bandage around his leg, and it looked swollen and sore. His shorts leg was rolled up to just above the bandage, while the other one was down. He was wearing a club t-shirt, and his long hair looked messy like usual. I would've normally helped him but, I couldn't move my legs.

"No, what if I am a failure and they fire me," I paused, my eyes going wide. I couldn't help myself, when I'm nervous I ramble.
"Then I won't have money and I'll have to go back to Finland, to my dad who has lung cancer and I'll have to watch him die, because I don't have money to keep his therapy going"

I was utterly panicked by the point I finished. I could feel myself going light-headed from hyperventilating so hard, and before I knew it I was being crushed by someone's arms.

"It's okay, Alek" Tuukka's calming voice reassured me. But, it wasn't fine. Somewhere along the line I convinced myself I was going to fail.

"You'll be fine, it's a home game, no one will boo you when you make a save." He stroked my back soothingly, his warm hands relaxing the tense muscles in my back. I gripped onto him, as he mumbled soothing words to me in Finnish. Most of which were saying I was a great goalie, and I deserved to be here, in front of the crowd. I nodded, he was right.

"I'll be fine." I sighed, he gave me a firm but gentle squeeze, "Thanks," I smiled up at him.I quickly stood up on my tippy-toes and kissed his cheek.

"Anytime, Alek" He blushed as he pushed a strand of loose hair behind my ear. He let go of me, and hobbled over to the door behind me.

He opened it, and gave me one last stunning smile, "Knock em' dead" His encouraging words gave me some comfort. I beamed back at him as I slowly walked out of the door, like it was just a regular old game.

It was the final minutes of the third period, 4-0 Bruins. I was mining the crease like I usually did, it wasn't like they were going to score- I hadn't let one past this game, I was so happy, if I got a shutout I wouldn't know what to do.

The Canadiens were hopeless, absolutely hopeless. Their defence collapsed, and all I could o was sit back, watching the game unfold.
Just as the buzzer was about to sound, Max Pacioretty whipped past Chara and Adam McQuaid for a one timer. He snapped a wrister, I focused on the puck and once it was in the air, I mapped it out and snatched it with my glove. I tossed the puck at the ref.

"Better luck next time, Maxipad." I cheered and he looked at the puck in the ref's hand.

"You couldn't of saved that" he argued and I smirked at his confusion.

"Oh, but I did, Maxipad"

"Maxipad? I haven't heard that one before." he muttered sarcastically and skated off in the direction of the Canadiens bench.

The final buzzer sounded and I mentally screamed. Oh my god! Oh my god! I just got my first shutout of the NHL.

"Did you see that?" I screamed and hugged Seguin as the crowd roared nearly drowning out my voice. He touched my helmet to mine, his eyes boring into mine.

"I told you, you'd be fine" he told me and I absolutely beamed.

I heard someone scream from the stands 'LIGHTNING LEHTO'. Then, before I realized it the whole stadium was chanting 'Lightning Lehto'. I pulled away from Tyler and took a bow.

"I believe they like you" Tuukka said, draping an arm around my shoulder.

"I sure hope so"
