My Best Friends Friend

Chapter 3

The next morning, Staci opened her eyes and a smile crept to her lips as she studied the man next to her. He lay on his back, one arm over his head, the other across his stomach. His chest was bare, the sheets coming up to just above his torso. She watch his chest raise and fall with every breath he took as she reach one hand up and gently ran it though his dark hair, not wanting to wake him from his slumber. He looked so peaceful as he laid there, a small smile on his lips.
Her trance was broken though, as she heard a knock at the bedroom door, her eyes widening as she turned to see Tyler’s head peeking through. This wasn’t the way she wanted him to find out she slept with his best guy friend.
She bit her lip sheepishly as Tyler’s smile turned into a look of confusion and concern as he looked at his two best friends. He knew they hit it off pretty well last night but he also knew Staci, and Staci was a one and done type person, and selfishly enough he hoped this wouldn’t affect his friendship with Jamie when Staci up and left him.
Staci gave Tyler the nod, indicating that’s she’d meet him after she was descent. So Tyler shut the door behind him and took a deep breath as he tried to calm himself. This wasn’t the first time Tyler caught her with a guy, but it was the first time it was one of his friends.
He ran a hand though his freshly cut hair just as Staci opened the door, she bit her lip, not sure how Tyler would take this.
“I can’t…” Tyler yelled, but quickly caught himself. He exhaled, trying to calm himself before he spoke again. “I can’t believe you?”
“What Ty,” Staci huffed as she crossed her arms; mad that he was acting like this was all her fault. “It was just as much his idea as it was mine.”
“I know, but Jamie’s…” he searched for the right word. “Jamie’s not like us, Staci. He’s more sensitive then you and me.”
“I know,” Staci agreed with a nod of her head.
“You know,” Tyler was back to yelling again, but quickly caught himself. “Then why would you do this to Jamie?”
Staci looked at Tyler. “Do what Tyler?”
“Give him this hope that something’s going to happen.”
She knew she didn’t have the greatest track record when it came to guys, but this time was different, “because Tyler, I think I actually like him.”
Tyler studied her for a minute, “Are you serious?”
She only nodded, she never admitted to liking anyone before, she enjoyed being single too much and Tyler knew that. So it didn’t surprise her that Tyler didn’t believe her. “Otherwise I wouldn’t do this to you, but last night…” she shook her head. “Last night was like the best night of my life Tyler, and I’m not just talking about…”
Tyler cut her off by placing her hand over her mouth. “TMI Staci,” he smiled, and she smiled back, hoping that that meant that Tyler believed her.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered when Tyler removed his hand.
He shook his head, “there’s nothing to apologize for,” he pulled her in for a hug. “It’s just both you guys mean so much to me and I don’t want to see either of you get hurt.”
Staci pulled away with a smile, “I appreciate the concern, but I’m a big girl, and Jamie’s a big boy,” Staci winked, causing Tyler to just shake his head, “we can take care of ourselves.”
“I know,” he smiled, “now go get Jamie,” he gave her a shove towards the door of the guest bedroom; “I made breakfast.”
“Okay Ty,” she sassed as she opened the bedroom door. She rolled her eyes as Tyler walked back downstairs and she shut the door behind her.
“Good morning,” a sleepy voice greeted her and she nearly jumped out of her skin. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes as she tried to calm her racing heart.
After her heart calmed down a bit she turned to the young man who lay on the bed. “You scared me Jamie.”
“Sorry,” he grinned as he rolled on to his side and rested his head on his hand.
Jamie’s eyes roamed her body and Staci bit her lip, not because of Jamie, but because she wasn’t sure how much of that conversation he heard. “So how much of that did you hear?”
“Enough,” he patted the spot next to him with a wink, “but don’t worry, I think I might like you too.”
“You think so?” She could feel her cheeks heat up as she crawled back onto the bed and kneeled over Jamie.
“Yea,” a smile covered his face as he ran a hand up and down her arm.
Staci leaned forward as Jamie took her hand, which he didn’t fail to notice fit perfectly in his, and she kissed him. He smiled as he kissed her back, but all too soon it was over, and she pulled away. “So what does that mean for us?”
“Well usually when two people like each other, Staci, they go out.” He told her, as he ran his fingers over hers not able to look at her as he waited for her to speak.
Staci swallowed but a smile crept to her lips as she looked at Jamie, not sure what he was playing at but she liked how nervous she made him. “Do they?”
“They do.” Jamie relaxed as she smiled down at him. “So Staci, will you be my girlfriend.”
“Yes,” Staci’s eyes crinkled as her smile grew, she’s had a lot of guys, but none of them ever asked her out, but she quickly realized that she probably wouldn’t have told any of them yes if they did. “So are we going to be okay when I leave?”
“Of course,” Jamie only laughed, what did she think; he wouldn’t like her when she wasn’t with him. He knew it wouldn’t matter where she was, as long as he got to talk to her and that is why he had a phone. “That’s what these are for,” he smiled as he lifted a phone off the night stand, he wasn’t sure if it was hers of his, but it didn’t matter.
Staci nodded, most of the guys she knew where only in it for one thing, and she was glad Jamie was different. “So as much as I’d like to spend the morning in bed with my boyfriend,” she smiled, the words so foreign on her lips, “right now we have to go.” Staci studied his brown eyes as they looked up at her. “Tyler made breakfast.”
“Wow, Tyler made breakfast.” Jamie snorted, “I don’t think Tyler’s ever made breakfast for anyone but himself.”
“Well I’m special,” she gave him a wink as she pushed herself off the bed as Jamie made a grab for her.
“You sure are,” Jamie sighed as he leaned back onto his pillow and watched her, his girlfriend, as she made her way to the bathroom.
