Something Isn't Missing [Tyler Seguin]

Chapter 1

(Jesse’s POV)
Nothing like walking home at night from an empty, outdoor rink. I think to myself as I light a cigarette.
“That’s not healthy for a young, aspiring goaltender.” I hear a boy’s voice say form behind me. I whip my head around to see the face of the new kid on the team, Tyler.
“And a beautiful one at that.” He says as soon as he sees my face. Never spoke to this kid before and I already know there’s something about him that I can’t put my finger on.
“Not healthy, eh? What’s gonna stop me?” I remark, breathing out some smoke.
“Also not all that good for a pretty girl like yourself to be walking home at midnight, especially alone at that. Where are you headed?” He asks, stopping me. I sigh but reluctantly tell him the street I live on.
“Hey, I’m heading that way too, can I walk you?” He asks, to which I nod.
We walk a little bit in a comfortable silence, something I didn’t think existed. After taking a longer drag than usual, I knock the ashes off and squish the butt into the ground, all the while breathing out the smoke.
“Why do you smoke?” He asks, grabbing my hand casually.
Slick.
“My way of release, calms me down a bit.” I say, stopping to stare at the unusually busy streets.
“New Yorker?” He asks, indirectly noting the bit of an accent that peeked through.
“Yeah, here for the hockey. And the fact that this is where I was brought.” I tell him, shivering. He shrugs off his sweater and drapes it around my shoulders. I refuse it but he insists.
“I’ll be alright, keep it until I see you again, er,” He says, not knowing my name.
“Jesse, some call me Jess, others, JR, up to you.” I say, realizing that I definitely won’t win in getting him to take his sweater back.
“Jae alright?” Tyler asks, to which I nod. We keep walking and make some small talk.
“So you play on the guys’ team?” He asks.
“Yeah, problem?” I counter, not wanting to hear any shit about it.
“Not at all, it’s actually pretty cool. If anyone should be breaking that gender barrier bullshit, should be you.” He answers, flashing me a smirk.
After a few more blocks of talking about random crap, we make it to our block. He walks me to my door and turns to leave. I can’t exactly go in through the front door, otherwise my parents are gonna find out I snuck out, and we can’t have that. I walk into my yard, seeing that Tyler had the same idea. I manage to sneak into my room silently, noticing that Tyler’s room is directly across from mine.
If he sneaks out as often as I do, this is gonna be a fantastic friendship.
