Look up and get lost in the Stars

10.

There wouldn't be a sky full of stars if we were all meant to wish on the same one - Frances Clark

I was out at the mall looking for some Christmas gifts to buy people when my phone went off, I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at the screen, having no idea who it was since there was no contact name, but I knew it was a Dallas area code.

I slid my finger across the screen to answer it and brought it up to my ear hesitantly, "Hello?" I asked slowly.

"Josie! It's me!"

"Jamie?" I asked surprised.

He laughed on the other end, "Yeah, so, I had to change my number, so this is my new one!"

I chuckled and walked into Forever 21, "Too many fans get your number, Hockey Star?" I asked him.

He laughed on the other end, "Yeah, something like that," he said trailing off.

"Everything okay?" I asked as I gently touched the clothes on the racks as I walked by them.

"Yeah, yeah," he said quickly.

"Did some fans actually get your number?" I asked with a smile.

He laughed lightly, "I've been getting some unwanted phone calls and text messages, so I figured this was the next step to take."

I giggled, "At least I seem to be in the clear then," I said playfully.

"What are you doing?" he asked me.

I sighed and picked up a shirt I thought Eve would really like, "At the mall doing some Christmas shopping. You?"

"Wait are you at the Galleria?" he asked me.

"I am!" I told him.

"Me too!" he said happily, "I just came out of the phone place. Which store are you in?" he asked hurriedly.

I smiled widely and looked down, "Forever 21," I told him.

"Don't move!" he said with a laugh, "I'll be there in a minute!"

"Okay!" I said laughing as we hung up.

I didn't even bother trying to bite back the smile that was on my face. I knew Jamie had practice in the morning, so I didn't want to bother him and ask him if he wanted to hang out on one of his off days. I thought he'd wanna rest more than hang around with me. Not that I didn't wanna hang out with him, I wanna to spend every free minute we had together. He had come to mean a lot to me in a really short period of time...feelings that I would definitely say are leaning towards love more than a strong like.

It was an overwhelming sensation...but it felt better than anything I could describe. I couldn't wait until I could talk to him every day, and see him. I was excited watching him during his games, either in person or on the TV if I had to.

I was looking through more of the shirts that were hanging up and just when I looked up at the door, Jamie waked in. He looked around quickly before he spotted me. He smiled and walked over to me.

He was wearing one of his long sleeved compression shirts and a pairs of black track pants along with a pair of sneakers. He was wearing, as usual, his Dallas Stars hat flipped backwards.

"Hey," he said wrapping his arms around me for a hug.

"Hey," I said returning the hug for a moment before pulling away.

He smiled and looked at the shirts, "Who are we shopping for?"

I laughed and continued to look through them, "I'm shopping for Eve and Lucy, I don't know who you're shopping for," I told him.

He chuckled from next to me as I pulled a shirt and held onto it for Lucy, "Are you gonna bring their stuff with you when you go or ship it ahead of time?" he asked.

I hummed, "It'd probably be easier to ship ahead of time, or else I'd have to pack like, an extra two suitcases."

"That's true," he said with a small laugh.

I smiled up at him before moving around to look at some PJs for them, "Are you excited to go home?" he asked me after about ten minutes.

I nodded, "I am," I told him honestly, "I've been missing them a lot lately."

"You gonna be missing anyone special down here?" he asked teasingly.

I smirked but continued to look at the PJs, "Daddy D, obviously," I said without missing a beat.

He took a second before he started laughing loudly, which in turn made me laugh.

"That hurts, honestly," he said after he started to compose himself.

I shook my head and looked up at him, "Liar," I accused.

He moved quickly and began tickling my sides as I began to laugh loudly and probably obnoxiously.

"Who are you going to miss the most?" he asked me while he was laughing too.

"You!" I said while continuing to laugh and try to fight him off, but it was damn near impossible with bags and shirts in my hands.

He stopped and looked down at me, while I was catching my breath again as I looked up at him with a small smile, "You know I'll miss you the most," I told him quietly as I wrapped a hand around his forearm.

He smiled, "I'll miss you too," he said quietly.

We stood, smiling at each other for a minute before I decided we had been creepy enough and I kept looking around the store for a few more minutes before deciding to pay.

He took some of my bags from me when we got out of the store, and he took my unoccupied hand and wrapped it around his arm, bringing me closer to him.

"What do you want for Christmas?" he asked me.

"I don't know," I mused, "I haven't really given it too much thought to be honest. What do you want?" I countered.

He smiled, "Nothing," he said simply, "There's nothing that I need."

I rolled my eyes, "But what do you want?" I asked, nudging him, "I didn't ask if you needed something."

He laughed lightly, "I think you know what I want."

"The Cup?" I questioned with a small smile.

"That's the dream!" he told me.

I bumped him with my hip gently as we kept walking, "You'll get it Benny!"

"If you keep cheering me on I will," he said, leaning down to whisper it to me.

I smirked as we walked past a jewellery store, "I guess I can do that."

He laughed as he looked at the glass holders where the jewellery was placed, he looked back down to me, "You know it's you that I want, eh?" he asked.

I smiled and looked up at him shyly, "I was hoping it might have been."

He smiled, "Of course it is."

"You're such a goof," I told him, smiling hugely at him.

He smiled back at me, "You're a goof, too."

And as silly as those words were...I feel like they had a deeper meaning. Something that we were both prepared and not prepared to say to each other.

I love you.
