The Roommate

Ten

We kissed, was the only thing on Bri and Sid’s minds the next morning after the Pens party. Both were shocked and scared about the awkwardness that could soon follow. Sidney was laying in bed worrying about everything under the sun, especially before a big press day like today. When he decided on rolling out of bed he went downstairs to see if Bri was up.

Not to his surprise she was dancing away in the kitchen cleaning everything up in her pj’s. She was wearing an oversized faded red shirt and a pair of grey sleep shorts that had the bottom part of her cheeks peeking out. Her hair was in a messy bun and she was barefooted, with not a stitch of makeup on her face. She looked beautiful to him. Of course he had to take a moment to appreciate her in her natural form.

“Good morning,” she smiled, looking over at him while she wiped the floor with a swiffer thing.

“Good morning. You didn’t have to start cleaning you know,” he chuckled.

“I know, but I figured I was up so I might as well get a head start. I love doing this kind of stuff. I made coffee if you wanted it. I know you like a cup in the morning.”

A smile crept up on his face and he just walked over to where she left a mug for him, his favourite one at that. The sun was lightly coming through the white blinds and there was a peaceful feel. He didn’t even check the time to see how early it was.

“So what do you have planned for the day?” he asked her, after taking a sip.

“Nothing at all,” she stopped to have a sip of her tea, leaning on the other side of the island Sidney was leaning on. God she wanted to kiss him right then and there.

“Do-Do you want to come with me to a charity day event?”

“What is it?” she asked taking a sip.

“A calender photoshoot with adopted dogs. You can come and do some stuff with your personal blog if you’d like?” It’s her piece on dating and relationships that she really needed to work on, she thought.

“You really want me to come with you?”

“Yeah, why not?”

“Aren’t those events closed off and strict with people who tag along?”

“I have some strings to pull. It’ll only be me and a few of the guys you already know you and love you.”

“Really!? They like me!?”
“Oh yeah. I got compliments about you all night. Just come with me!”

“Alright, I’ll go get ready. But don’t be mad if I want a dog.”

“Oh lord, can I change my mind?” he joked.

Bri was running up the stairs when she said, “Shut up!”

**At shoot**

The drive was still painfully awkward yet the moment they arrived at the photoshoot they were back to being social and fun again. The other players were thrilled to see Bri. She fit in so well with them and she was thrilled to be liked by them. Sidney was probably just as happy. By him inviting her to this shoot was a huge step and he finally got the confidence to ask her to become semi public with him. In his standards those lead to dates.

“We have to shut the shoot down,” the Pens media planner announced, walking into the area where everyone got ready.

“What, why!?” Marc-Andre asked in distraught, cuddling a great dane puppy.

“The photographer had a wicked allergic reaction to the shrimp in the salad at catering and we have no one to shoot.”

“Bri’s a photographer, ask her to do it!” Bonino yelled playing on the floor with a beagle.

“Who is Bri?” she asked in semi disgust. It only pissed Sidney off more, while Bri remained silent and timid. “I don’t let just anyone deal with this stuff.”

“She’s my roommate, actually.”

“Oh, Sidney, sorry. Do you think she would be interested?”

“You can ask her yourself, she’s right there,” he pointed at her from across the room. All eyes in the room where on her, she was well aware of that. Now’s her chance to prove herself.

“I would be interested if the organization allows me,” Bri replied, catching the attention of the bitch in front of her.

“Are you qualified?”

“I am actually I-”

“She’s a professional blogger and her stuff is really good! She works for a firm!” Beau Bennett yelled out.

“He’s right. I know how to work a lighting kit, I have experience with camera’s and I can guarantee I can get the shots you need for this calendar. Check with the other executives and if they are okay with it I’ll do it.”

“One moment please,” she replied storming out the door.

“Am I the only one who can’t stand her?” Fleury said, breaking the awkward silence.

“I’m glad someone else said it,” Geno laughed.

“She really knows how to piss me off,” Sidney said under his breath.

“Don’t let her get under your skin Sid, I’m fine,” Bri whispered to him, rubbing his back. He appreciated how considerate she was of his emotions just as much as she appreciated how protective he is of her.

“I know, I don’t like how she treated you there, especially in front of everyone,” he whispered back.

“It’s okay, I’ve been treated worse, I promise. I won’t let a woman like her affect my day,” she smiled over at him.

Sure enough Bri was given the job. She wasn’t nervous, but she was a little worried she would under perform. As soon as she got separated she was busy preparing a shot list and pairing up players with dogs. She found a little mutt she absolutely adored in the puppy pen and decided it was going to be with Sidney.

The boys loved working with Bri as a photographer. She was easy to communicate what she wanted and had great flow. The dogs were a rough task to work with and she managed to impress everyone, only needing a dog trainer to get involved a few times, especially when Beau got peed on by a poodle.

After the shoot while everyone was packing up Bri was obsessed with the little dog that was with Sidney for his photo’s. He was so cute and patient, just like Sid. He seemed to have a great temperament too, which she loved. But she knew she could never keep him, Sidney wouldn’t allow a dog in his house and she’s gone far too much to be able to take care of him. It would be too selfish of her to do that.

Sidney watched her with the dog and could see her love and passion for others come out. She was absolutely amazing with him. She is a nurturer to everyone regardless of their situation. He could see the happiness in her eyes, and he knew she was resisting the dog because of him. He didn’t even have to talk to her to hear her lie.

Bri got separated from the dogs and was on her way to the parkinglot when she heard someone run up to her asking, “Bri! I got a question for you. Do you wanna go for drinks tonight?”

When she turned around she was shocked to see who was standing behind her, it definitely wasn’t who she thought it was.
