The Roommate

Seven

**Bri’s POV**

“Are you sure it’s the right decision going to the game?” I asked my mom on the phone, slightly in panic about the decision I had made with Sidney yesterday.

“Bri, why not? Just go and enjoy the experience of it all. Your father is super jealous you’re going to a season home opener and seeing a rivalry team. You know the hatred between Philly and Pittsburgh.”

“You don’t think it’s slightly inappropriate for me to go see my roommates game with his parents?”

“Not at all! No one is going to know you’re there with them anyway. Just go and enjoy yourself! Do you have anything Penguins to wear?”

“Oh, I am already ahead of you on that. I went out and got some stuff this morning,” I said as I collapsed on my bed, fiddling with my hat for tonight. “I just feel like it’s inappropriate in a way.”

“You’re fine, stop being a princess. Do you have feelings for him?”

“No, not at all. We barely see each other at it is and his season hasn’t even started yet. I barely know the guy. And now I’m going to a game with his parents.”

“Are they nice people?”

“They are lovely. Reminds me of you and dad.” The emotions of the situation took its toll and the tears began to fall from my eyes. “I miss you guys so much.”

“Oh honey, we miss you too.” Great mom got started too. Just what I needed.

“I have to finish getting ready. Call you when I’m home?”

“Of course. Enjoy the game! Love you!”

“Love you too.”

I wiped my eyes and looked in my mirror. At least my makeup didn’t smudge in the slightest. I walked downstairs to see if the Crosby’s were ready to leave. I figured I’d drive tonight so if they wanted something to drink they could. Besides, it’s the least I could do!

When we arrived to the arena it was packed with people wearing jerseys and other merch. I’m glad I decided to wear some. It even gave me something good to add to my Instagram feed since I’ve been slacking since I’ve been here.

We grabbed our snacks and took our seats. Mrs. Crosby was in the middle filling me in. I could see a box of women staring down as if they were the queen’s of the arena and it made me slightly uncomfortable. I could sense they were looking at me. That or I’m just being over sensitive.

I guess Trina could notice my comfort level changing disrupted, once Troy walked by me to go somewhere else, so she leant in and said, “they’re the reason why we never sit up there.”

“What do you mean?”

“That’s the family box. A lot of the wives and girlfriends think they run the place and demand to have that entire area to themselves. They’re not very welcoming to anyone else so we choose to sit in the crowd and feel the energy and experience it the same way as everyone else.”

“You seem like a very humble family,” I nodded.

“We try to be. We always had to be from day one. Aside from dealing with a lot of arrogant people at these events, we try to stay as normal as possible. Don’t get us wrong, we still pinch ourselves that our son has made it as big as he has, but we don’t let his status change our relationship with him and how we view him.”

“That’s very kind of you to say. I know with my upbringing my mom tried to keep us the same way.”

“Did you find it hard having a professional athlete parent?” she asked, clearly Sidney has already told her what I told him. “I don’t mean to pry!”

“You’re not prying. It was very difficult at times because you didn’t know how to adjust with him when he was home, and there was an odd family dynamic. Otherwise we had a fairly normal upbringing. Luckily for us we never really had to relocate for my dad’s career. If that happened I think it would have really impacted our home life.”

“I do worry about Sidney’s home life. I know he’s a grown man but I don’t know how he is when he’s alone. He enjoys his alone time too much and it scares me because I don’t want him to be too isolated and become someone who over thinks too much and damage himself.”

“I’ll look out for him, don’t worry.”

“That’s why I suggested for him to get a roommate,” she said as Troy walked back. Why would she be the one who wanted him to have a roommate?

**After the Game** **No One’s POV**
Bri drove the Crosby’s back to her and Sid’s place, knowing there was no sense in waiting for him because he’d have a million interviews with the media, especially after scoring and winning 4-0. Instead she decided to make a snack for everyone to tie them over until Sidney made his grand appearance through the front door.

For the entire drive home Sid was on a high. There’s always something about those games that make him feel different than normal. Maybe it was the fact he knew Bri was in the audience and had a sense to impress her. Forget about his parents, impressing them doesn’t matter to him anymore.

After lugging in his hockey bag from his trunk and slamming it shut, he walked in the front door. His parents let out a huge scream and gave him a hug. Letting them have a moment with their son, Bri stayed in the kitchen and finished up her treat for everyone. She had decided on a warm artichoke dip. Sounds disgusting but it’s quick, easy and healthy for post-physical activity.

When she walked out of the kitchen with her platter of crackers and dip, Sidney instantly recognized her outfit. He couldn’t help but smile at the fact she chose to support his team in such a simple way meant the world to him.

“Congratulations on the big win and goal!” she smiled, placing everything on the coffee table.

“Thank you! Where did you get that outfit? It looks great!”

“Thanks!” she twirled around. “I got the shirt at some shop downtown because I felt like it wasn’t right if I wore your jersey to the game and showed up with your parents. So I went mutual.”

“Good idea. We don’t want an angry mob attacking you,” he chuckled. “If you wanted gear all you had to do was ask. I’m not gonna make you waste your money on things I can get for free. I know they cost a lot.”

“Sidney, it was $13. The hat cost more. Just accept it and eat!” she laughed. Troy was already helping himself to the dip and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it.

As crazy as it sounded Sidney could totally picture his nights like this in the future. Having a beautiful and kind woman entertaining his parents until he comes home from
his game, where she greets him in a positive way and everything seems complete. Only she can’t come running into his arms like he wishes she would.

The four of them celebrated the team's victory much later than they had intended. Once 2 rolled around they realized it was time for bed. Sidney had to get some rest before tomorrow, and his parents had to start packing for their flight home after Sidney’s afternoon game. Bri on the other hand had a busy day for her personal blog. They said goodnight and went their separate ways.

**The Next Day**
Sidney’s focused on that puck like his life depended on it. He could not lose this game no matter what. The pressure was already high for game two of the NHL season and he was playing his “enemy” Ovechkin. Hockey was and is his only thought in this moment.

Meanwhile Bri is at home working away on making recipe videos for her blog and typing out word for word instructions. It’s nice to not have to worry about other companies for once and being able to enjoy the comfort of her temporary home. She had decided on doing quite a bit of baking to help increase her mood and appetite.
Plus it’s raining outside, and she likes the smell of baked goods in the rain.

As her final batch of cookies finished baking she heard the washing machine buzz off. Guess Sidney forgot he put on a load, she thought. Being the helpful roommate she is she moved all his clothes over, blushing at the sight of his underwear balled up in her hands. Most girls would be shoving them in their faces and then their pockets, but not her. She didn’t care if she was in that situation.

Once her cookies were finished she decided on working out in the gym for once. Sidney shouldn’t be home to catch her or anything. As long as she’s been in his house she hasn’t been as comfortable as she should be. She’s been longing for a hot bath as well and has yet to have one either.

She ran up to her room and quickly got changed into her sports bra and yoga pant capri’s and her ipod. Even though she has an iphone she never downloads music on it. Once in the gym she was fully appreciating it. It wasn’t your traditional gym which is something she loved.

She lost herself in the music that filled the room, sweat poured down her body, her muscles screaming at her for being a slacker and not working them this hard in a while, her heart racing. And just when she thought she had enough she pushed herself harder. Fitness is something she’s always had a passion for.

When Sidney came home from his game the house was empty and there was no sign of Bri even though her car was in the driveway. Maybe she went on a walk or something, he thought. Slowly but surely he started removing items from his suit. The team won and he was ready to celebrate by himself to a meal of grilled chicken.

His suit jacket went on the back of one couch along with his tie. Right as he got down to the last button of his shirt and was about to take that off as well Bri came upstairs. At the same time the two of them made eye contact and realized each other were half naked.

Her sweaty body on display for him with the peak of her breasts glistening as nicely as her stomach and shoulders were. His shirt was halfway down his arms and he was suddenly frozen. After a moment of uncomfortable silence they apologized in unison.

“I’m so sorry, I was using your gym and didn’t think you’d be home this early!” she somewhat squealed of embarrassment.

“I’m the one who should be sorry. I was stripping down in the middle of the house because I thought you were out.”

“Did you have a nice game at least?” she asked, tilting her head, trying her best to avoid staring at his body too much. The vision in front of her was to die for.

“Yeah, we won actually. What did you get up to?” Too bad for Sid he was resisting the urge to take a good look himself.

“I baked. So if you want, help yourself. I’m off to take a cold shower, cuz I am hot,” she giggled running up the stairs.

Of course Sid didn’t waste the opportunity to see her run in yoga pants. She really is perfect, isn't she?
