We're Like Fire and Ice baby, I'm Too Hot for You

Something Kane Is It?

Michelle was in the bathroom curling her dark brown hair. Most days she wouldn’t but today was a special day. Her birthday to be exact. She was turning 25 and she was meeting her parents for lunch. She finished her hair off and headed out the door of her apartment. She walked down a few flights of stairs and jumped into her car. It wasn’t long before she arrived at the small restaurant her parents told her to meet them at. She parked her car and walked in. She pushed the door open and glanced around the room before her eyes landed on her parents waving at her from across the room. She made her way over “Hey.” she greeted before sitting down across from her parents at the table. She set her bag down before looked back to her parents “Happy Birthday Bumper.” her mother said making Michelle laugh slightly at her childhood, or permanent to her parents, nickname. Michelle smiled at her mother “Thanks.” she said “Now would you mind if I checked out this menu? I’m starving.” she said gaining a small chuckled from her parents as they also picked up their menus Michelle set her silverware onto her plate as she looked up at her parents “I really enjoyed this.” she said “It was our pleasure, it’s only once your daughter turns twenty-five.” her father said. Michelle laughed “Except it actually does, remember Danella dad?” she joked about her sister. Her father gave her a look “You know what I mean.” he said making Michelle laugh “Speaking of it’s a shame she couldn’t come.” Michelle said “She texted me today,” Michelle’s mother said “She said happy birthday and she’s adjusting to Toronto just fine.” Michelle’s mother said. A moment later Michelle’s parents exchanged a look for a moment before looking back at Michelle “Now that lunch is over, we want to give you your present.” they said. Michelle looked at her parents “You don’t have to, really. You’ve given me enough.” she said “Trust me, you’ll want this one.” her father said “Now close your eyes.” Michelle rolled them before closing them “Put your hand out.” her mother said. Michelle slid her hand out onto the table. She soon felt a piece of paper drop into her hand “Open your eyes.” said her mother, a touch of slyness in her voice. Michelle smirked as she opened her eyes and glanced down to her hand. A state of excitement washed over her as she saw what her parents placed into her hand was a ticket to the Red Wings vs Blackhawks game happening next month. Michelle giggled and covered her mouth with her hand “Oh my god guys! Thank you so much!” she said jumping out of her seat to run to the over side to pull her parents into a hug “We knew how much you deserve it.” her father said “It was about time anyway. You’ve been a fan for twenty-five years. It’s about time you saw a game.” Michelle smiled “You got me into it. Next game you’re coming with.” she said giving him a quick kiss on the cheek “This is like my best birthday ever.” she said sitting back across from her parents.

It had been a month since Michelle’s ‘Best Birthday Yet’ and it was now the day of the hockey game. Michelle was buzzing with excitement. She had her costume jersey on, it had her last name on the back. She had her Red Wings hat on and she was ready to go. She had her ticket and she was out the door, in her car and she was off to the stadium. After about an hour's drive she pulled into the stadium parking lot. She paid for her space and took the walkway up to the stadium. She couldn’t help but grin walking into the huge building and hearing the hustle of people. She checked her phone for the time, she had about thirty minutes to kill before she needed to get to her seat. She stopped by the merch store tucked into the corner, it was flooded with people but Michelle managed to make her way in. She made her way through the sea of people in the store. She pushed her way to the edge of the stood along the walls. She browsed the merch lining the shelfs. Shirts, hats, cups. A figure of the Mascot caught her eye. After weaving through to the cashier and then back out a few minutes had passed. Michelle stopped to get a pretzel at the snack stand before deciding to head to her seat. It was another struggle of it’s own to make it there through the halls and up the stairs to her seat. She took a few pictures while she waited. She checked her phone. Only Ten minutes left until the game. Michelle looked out across the ice. She felt a shiver of excitement run other her. She could hardly wait for her favorite team to show up and start kicking ass out there. She glanced over the stadium at the Blackhawks fans on the other side. She laughed quietly to herself. It was crazy people would come states away to watch their team lose. She checked her phone again. Only three minutes left. Michelle shook her leg as she watched the clock. She checked her phone as rung. It was a text from her sister “Have fun at the game Shelly! BRING IT!!” it read. Michelle checked the time, one minute left. She sent a quick reply “I will, wish you were here Ella!!!” she texted. Just as it sent Michelle heard cheers. The game was starting! Michelle tucked her phone back into her pocket to watch as the players filed out onto the ice. Michelle stood up to watch. She clapped a bit. She could hardly believe she was here but she was going to enjoy every single second

The game was underway. Still in the first period So far the Blackhawks were leading 3 to 2, but of course Michelle had faith in her favorite team. There was this one Blackhawks player, he scored two out of the three goals. Everytime he he scored he always seemed sort of cocky, and flashy, and, kind of hot. Michelle shook her head, he was just another hockey player, they were all hot. Plus he was a Hawk so she knew he was way out of the question. Plus he was famous, so it’s not like she’d meet him ever, even if he wasn’t a Hawk. Michelle shook her head again. She focused her attention back to the game. It was 3-3 now. Michelle stood up again to cheer more. Hoping to get that boy out of her mind.

It was the final period. The score was still 3-3. Michelle was up on her feet cheering for her team. Her eyes focused on the two teams skating down on the ice. It was getting down to the wire. There were less than fifteen minutes left in the game. Michelle looked a little closer to who had the puck. It was that boy from earlier. She rolled her eyes briefly before continuing to look at the rest of the game. She cheered along with the rest of the crowd as the game got more intense. It was so close! The goal horn went off. Chicago won. Michelle felt a bit sad but she could still walk away with the satisfaction of seeing her favorite team in action. Soon the players filed off the ice and the fans started walking out of the stadium. Michelle cleaned up her garbage and started walking out with the crowd. As she walked down the long hallway she thought about the long drive home. She pushed her way to the side of the hallway to get to the bathroom. She managed to get to a little hallway off to the side. It was quite empty, nobody else seemed to be around but she heard some steps behind her. She looked down at her phone. She started typing out a text to her parents letting them know she was done and she had a good time. She was about to press send when she felt herself collide with another person as her phone flew out of her hands. Before she could feel the impact of the concrete whoever she had run into had managed to catch her. For the few seconds before she regained her balance she couldn’t help but feel a bit, safer. She shook her head briefly and stood up. She dusted herself off and picked up her phone “Sorry about that.” she said “I was jus-” Michelle cut herself off as she looked up at who had caught her. It was a Hawk. He was pretty tall. He still had most of his hockey gear, including his jersey. His hair was still flattened down from the helmet. He had such a dorky smile. Michelle was so caught up in the moment she almost missed what he said. He looked up and down Michelle briefly “If I had known you’re a Red Wings fan I might not have caught you.” he chuckled. Michelle shot him a look “Sassy are we know?” she said folding her arms over her chest “Maybe buy me a drink before you start getting lippy with me.” she said with a smirk. Michelle looked over him again when it hit her. He was the player she noticed before. Michelle kept her reaction under wraps for now. She tried to recall his name “Uhh, Something Kane is it?” she asked shifting her weight on her feet “Something Sharp is it?” he said. Michelle raised an eyebrow. Before she could say anything he answered her “Your jersey. It’s costume, I can tell.” he said “You know last time I saw a jersey with that name on it was a Hawk.” he said. Michelle nodded “Last time I met someone this cocky they were twelve.” she joked, hiding a laugh. He almost looked shocked “Okay wow, if I wanted to be made fun of I’d hang out with Tazer.” he said. Michelle almost smiled but she quickly stopped before she could. She would have said something but before she could another guy in a Hawk’s jersey appeared at the end of the hallway gaining attention from Michelle and Kane “Hey Kaner! Stop flirting and get back here!” the other Hawk shouted. Kane looked back to Michelle “That’s my call. I guess I won’t see you around?” he said. Michelle rolled her eyes “Guess so.” she said. Kane turned around to start jogging down the hallway towards the other player. Michelle turned to walk back up the way she came.
