Sight

After Hours

Addy went over to Brad's doorway and sat down across from him, yawning.

"Hey you."

"Hey." Addy barely whispered, giving a wave.

"What was your nickname Segs gave you, stardust?"

"Yeah." Addy felt hotter, her cheeks flushing. She promised herself she wouldn't break down.

"That's a nice nickname. Better than cutie. Like, the first time I saw you come out of the basement, when I was with your sister, and she was like that's just Addy. But now you're more than just Addy." Brad smiled.

"Yeah, it is." Addy agreed, drawing a breath out, but as Brad began to bring up the night that changed everything, her smile shrunk. She couldn't wait to see Alexa again.

"You should get some rest. Big day tomorrow." Brad looked out the glass window at what seemed to be a concrete box of stripes and direction.

"I might." Addy shrugged.

"G'night, stardust. You deserve all the rest in the world." Brad pointed at Carlo, who was also staring out his window, his light eyes contrasting the black paint he had a change of heart to put on somehow.

When Brad called Addy stardust, her heart paced.

"Goodnight......"

Addy paused. She didn't really know a good nickname for Brad yet, so she wouldn't give him one. Addy got up and crawled over to Carlo's window.

"You're still awake, Addison?" Carlo glanced at his watch.

"It's 12:17." He smiled at her.

"Yeah, I'm still awake, Brandon. Aren't you a little cold?" She was rarely called by her full name, but the little things like that made her appreciate Carlo so much more.

Addy's fingers reached out to trace Carlo's tattoos she never knew existed.

"No. Never, Addison."

Addy's head tilted into his shoulder as he put his head on top of hers.

"Brandon."

"Addison."

Addy instinctively climbed onto Carlo's lap and gazed into his eyes. Addy smudged Carlo's eye black, as her smile shrunk into a frown.

"My life doesn't make any sense. Everything is out of order and I'm so lost. I've lost hope, my boyfriend, my sister, you've lost the Cup."

"We just lose and we lose until we can't lose anymore. We give up. We aren't a team, we never were. Inconsistent as hell. And look where we ended up. Claude is probably worried sick where I am. There's even rumors that management will fire Claude. I bet you the fans don't miss me. I make so many mistakes. I can't even cover a stupid center or winger without making a fool out of myself. Well, Addison, I know you can find yourself. I never touched the 2011 cup, couldn't talk about the 2013 lost one either. One of my first NHL games was a really interesting one against the Stars. I think I was against The Benns and Tyler and my first goal was actually offsi-"

"Against Tyler? Wait, weren't you on the same team?"

"He was traded to the Dallas Stars years ago because he partied a lot I guess. At development camp, they referenced him a lot."

"How do you know all of this?" Addy's face was stern but interested.

Trading Tyler Seguin? This wasn't right. What?

"Sixth sense. Or my pod. Which is left to burn in the woods." Carlo shrugged.

Addy nudged him. "You've been in my life this whole time, I remember the first day we met at the Westside Arena, and when I got off the ice-"

"I told you you were a great figure skater."

"And I said thanks."

"I'm always with you."

"I hated figure skating. That's when the Coyotes didn't want Alexa and I moved to Boston with her and-"

"She got the job. I remember because her first interview was with Prospects, I was one of them."

"And you were just a prospect that time, over the summer of 2013!"

"And the summer of 2013 was when?"

Addy was fully awake, her voice cautious.

"17 seconds. That's all that's happened so far. But then, summer they traded him?"

"They don't have to trade him anymore. They can't."

Addy put a finger over Carlo's lips, remembering what she did to Tyler.

"You saved him from his future in Dallas for me."

"That was all you, Stardust."

Addy's face turned a light pink color, blushing. Saving a player for the consequence of a new start out of love. Did she really save him?

"And the Benn brothers, they looked up to Tyler! They first became friends in the compartment when they were talking about me! That's how they painted the 19!"

"Instead of the 91." Carlo chimed in.

"But if you're from the future, how do you get back? What if you can't-"

"Live by faith, not by sight, Addison."

And before she could answer him, Carlo leaned in to give Addy the best kiss of her life, continuing to make out with her in the darkness, Addy tangled up in him, but carefree at this point. A few minutes after, Carlo finally broke away and set Addy back down beside him.

"Actually, rumors have been going around that we're going to trade McQuaid."

"McQuaid? I don't know where he went.." Addy remembered the day on the train where he transformed all so suddenly, turning himself into a twisted werewolf.

"Lucic dealt to the Kings then Oilers."
"Lucic? Didn't Tom-" She remembered the gunshot that rang out in the woods.

"All the players you've lost, the Bruins are losing present day." Carlo told her, his voice grave.
"I don't want to lose you, Carlo."

"Ditto, Addison."

Soon enough, Addy fell asleep next to Brandon. Refusing to sleep, Brandon carefully chose his vantage point, looking outside of the window at the cars racing by. These must be Blackhawks players. Brandon slouched, trying to hide and sink into the wall lower so the spotlights wouldn't hit him. But at the same time, Brandon carefully ran his fingers through Addy's blonde streaks of hair, looking down at the girl.

And in that moment, he knew.
