Unconditionally

“You got everything?” My mom asked, holding onto my arm a little too hard. I laughed and leaned into her.
“I’ll be okay, I swear.”
“You’re all set for school?”
“Yes, and Carly’s bringing me to campus tomorrow to show me classes and meet with my professors.” I explained. “Mom, it’s gonna be okay.”
“I know, I’m so proud of you. Call me when you land, okay?”
“Absolutely. Love you, Momma.” I whispered, giving her a crushing hug as I fought back tears.
“I love you too. You’re going to amazing things Kailin.” She encouraged as she let go. I smiled, unsure of what to say. I reached for my carry-on, waved lightly and boarded the plane.
I snagged the window seat and settled in, seeing my mom still standing in the terminal. I waved, even though I knew she probably couldn’t see. I let a few tears leak out as she turned her back and exited the airport.
