Trapped by Love

Chapter One

Rask's POV

Another goal. I leave the crease and head to the bench so that McIntyre can finish. I sit on the bench. We are going to lose this game and it's all my fault. Every time we score, they score. Every time they score, we can't score. I need to get my game on. Things aren't going my way, but it's just a slump. Every goalie goes through it. The horn sounds and the game is over. We got crushed with a score of 9-4. Oh well. Just another loss. I head to the locker room and sit in my locker waiting for the coach to scold us. As he walks in with the rest of the coach staff, my teammates just hang their heads.
"Just another game in the books. Nothing to be ashamed of. This stuff happens. You guys just played your hardest and they just outplayed us.We will get them next time. Now all of you can get changed and head home. Rest up because we take on the Blue Jackets tomorrow night!" says the coach as he leaves the locker room. I get changed and I head out the door. I am stopped by the coach when I walk by his office.
"Listen, Rask, is something going on that is affecting your play in net? You were like swiss cheese tonight. Not only tonight, but the past few games have been shaky for you. Is there something you want to talk about?" asks the coach. He doesn't seem to be upset. He seems to be concerned.
"There is nothing going on, sir. I'm just having a horrible season," I say. "I will try to break out of this slump as soon as possible."
"Look, I'm not mad because every goalie goes through a slump at some point, but if you play horrible in this game, your losing your starts. Just try your hardest. Not every goal is your fault, remember that," says the coach as he packs up his brief case and computer and he leaves the rink. I stand there in shock. I can't lose my starts. I can't lose my position. I need to pick up my play. I head out to my car, but on the way there I bump into a lady that appears to be going to her car as well.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," I say as she turns around to look at me.
"Oh, no I'm sorry. This is my first day on the job and I'm a wreck. I have nothing organized and my papers are flying everywhere," she says as she looks at the ground of where there were some of her papers. I bend down to pick them up for her. The poor thing isn't nearly organized, but she did say it was her first time on the job.
"So, what's your job?" I ask as I hand her the papers.
"I work with game footage mostly. I will edit some interviews and stuff like that as well," she says as she takes the papers and tries to shove them in her bag.
"That's cool. Will you be here for tomorrow's game?" I ask. Now that I said it, I guess it is a stupid question. She just giggles.
"Of course."
"So, what's you name?" I say quickly changing the subject.
"Alex. I think I know who you are. The Bruins are my dads favorite team. I'm guessing your Tuukka Rask?" She is so cute when she guesses. Wait, do I think she's cute?
"You are correct."
"Well, I better get going. I'll see ya tomorrow!" she say joyfully and walks to her car. I just stand there watching her as she leaves. Do I have a crush on this woman? A short, nerdy brunette? She wears glasses and her hair up in a pony tail with a flannel shirt and jeans. I shrug my shoulders and head to my car to go home. I keep thinking about this woman all the way home. I can't get my mind off her. I park my car in my garage and I go inside my house where I am greeted by my puppy, Lilly. She is a beautiful chocolate lab. I still can't get Alex out of my mind. I must ask her out and I must do it soon. I hope this is nothing more than a crush. I need to focus on my game more than love. I need to get out of my slump before I lose my position as the starter. I head up to my room and get changed for bed. I curl up with Lilly and we both fall asleep.

***

I wake up in time for morning skate. Got to play the Blue Jackets today and we are going to win. I get to the rink and see that Alex just got here as well. I do my best to avoid her gaze, but she spots me and waves. I have to be polite so I wave back. She goes to her office and I get to the locker room. I get ready to go on the ice and notice that Alex is filming this practice. Oh geez. I can never escape. There is something about her, something special. I mean, if there wasn't, I wouldn't be acting like this. The team heads onto the ice and I am hesitant to follow. I can't stop staring. I have had enough, I need to ask her out, I just don't know how.
